I’m from South Africa. We usually pour a cream, butter and vanilla sauce over the malva right after removing it from the oven. It makes the pudding all sticky and moist. The version in this video looks a bit dry. It is then served with an additional serving of either custard or plain vanilla ice cream. The difference in temperature (the hot pudding against the cold custard or ice cream) is one of my favourite things about this dessert. Original malva also contains white vinegar, which I find to be a key ingredient, alongside the apricot jam. All time favourite. 10/10 would recommend

But the (staple ingredient) Peri Peri spice they used to create the sauce be from Africa where they discovered it. So the Portuguese popularised it but its roots are deeply from Africa.
