Americans try Amsterdam’s Famous VENDING MACHINE fast food! | Amsterdam Travel Vlog

These two expats in The Netherlands had never eaten at FEBO. Crazy, right? We fix that many times over in this video!
We tried fried cheese, fried meats, and much more as we tour around a few FEBO locations in Amsterdam. Yes, many desserts were ordered.

We are Nate and Katrina, two American expats living in Amsterdam, The Netherlands and traveling as much as we can to see what there is to see! We balance a busy career and grad school while we explore Europe and beyond. Krokets or bitterballens, same thing, just different size/shape. You take cooked meat, preferably beef, and chop it up finely. Cook with finely sautéed onion & broth. Seasoned with salt, white pepper, and nutmeg. Thicken with a roux and sometimes add unflavored gelatin. Refrigerate until it sets. This allows you to roll/shape it. You then dip it into an egg wash and bread crumbs. Repeat the egg/bread crumb process and then deep fry. Usually, you split it open and put Dutch mustard in the center. PS I'm really enjoying your channel, and you've given me lots of wonderful ideas for my upcoming visit to Amsterdam this summer. Many thanks. 😊

Me and my Firends call Febo “The promised land”, cause every time we go to the netherlands we mostly eat Febo. Luckily i live in germany and Amsterdam is only a 3h ride away

Make your own Kroketjes and/or bitterballen. Since I have to do it myself now here in Las Vegas although I could order Voorn's Kroketten, I found THE perfect broth for it: Bone Broth! It took me several times to figure out the spices though but now, I make my own beef kroketten.

Most Dutch folks would not get Chicken...Kalfsvlees kroket is what is favourite together with the Grillburger and their frietjes. Kaassoufle is also a winner. FEBO forever!

There are absolutely no patatoes in a kroket foreigners always think that 😂. A kroket is a meat ragout most commonly using beef, beef broth, flour, butter or margarine, onions and herbs.

Even Anthony Bourdain himself visited FEBO. May he find peace.. :( But he did point out the importance of getting deep fried snacks while being completely hammered without the need to interact with other humans. Im so glad he went beyond the veil and managed to see the truth behind true Amsterdam culture. Im sure you've seen his Amsterdam episodes, its just the best. Its just so sad what... ok well... One of New York City's finest in my book.... Just in case you havent seen it : The Layover: Amsterdam is right here on KZbin. I think a Febo Mark two video might be an order - you skipped two popular things that you probably would’ve liked. A Nasi schijf, which is mainly rice and veggies deep-fried, and a Bami schijf, which is deep fried noodles… Both based on indonesian cuisine. Lekker hoor!

Kroketten are definitely hit or miss. Febo isn't known for quality and I personally rarely go there. The best kroketten in my opinion are "draadjesvleeskroketten". They contain stewed meat and are less ragout-y. A good example of the opposite are "van Dobben kroketten", they're very popular but I don't like them. They're mostly ragout with little cubes of meat in them. Tbh, I think Katrina comparing stuff to McDonalds is accurate. The quality level is pretty comparable.

De Febo is niet meer zo goed als vroeger!!! Er is veel aan kwaliteit ingeleverd. De kalfsvleeskroket is niet zoals vroeger, de fricandellen zijn niet lekker meer. Bij de meeste Febo filialen staan geen vakmensen achter de toonbank. Erg jammer dat deze keten niet meer levert waar het vroeger groot door is geworden.
