Just to add confusion we have "pease" pudding in the North East. It's a puree made with split peas and spices, which is very popular as a sandwich (or stottie) filling with ham.

Us Brits like to confuse foreigners, we spell a word one way then pronounce it another way. For example Shirehorse is pronounced as it’s spelt, all of our county’s also known as shires are pronounced Shear so a Yorkshire Pudding would be pronounced as a Yorkshear pudding. I live in the county of Leicestershire but it’s pronounced Lestershear. A nearby county is Derbyshire but it’s pronounced Darbyshear. Confusing to all but Brits🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧.

I’m English and that macaroni cheese is truly gross! I think the currants in the Garibaldi biscuits are actually raisins. I feel like the spotted dick would have benefited from some hot ambrosia custard over the top. Also you are right, Yorkshire puddings are the best. Love them with onion gravy with roast beef, mashed and roast potatoes, chantenay carrots and sprouts...my fave Sunday roast.

Yorkshire Pud is Great with any Sunday Roast, Beef, Lamb, Pork or Chicken. Use a large Rectangular pan and add Sausages (best at least part cooked) and you have 'Toad in the Hole', best with caramelised onion gravy (has nothing to do with sugar). Aunt bessies are ok, but make it from scratch in your 'muffin tin', it's easy and better. For Roasts, the 'hole' is filled with Gravy. Historically was served before the Roast, to fill people up, and after, with Jam and perhaps Cream... PS....Mushy peas are made from a totally different pea to Garden Peas, they are 'Marrowfat Peas', ready soaked in cans but you can buy them Dried and soak them. What you are missing on your taste test is Sarsons Malt Vinegar. As to Marmite, it is famous in UK ads, Love it or Hate it..... try it on untoasted bread, lots of butter and very little marmite, a marmite sandwich is a beautiful thing...to some

I'm a Yorkshire lass, so Yorkie puds are always a feature of roast dinners here smothered in gravy. If you have a larger circular tin you can make big ones and place your meat (beef it good) and your potatoes and veg inside it and fill with gravy..absolute bliss. I'm used to American terms as I play online with friends over there so can say a names only weird if you weren't brought up with it no matter what side of the pond you're on..

Yorkshire puddings originally were as you suggested a pudding as a child any yorkshire puddings left over from sunday lunch were used as a snack filled with stewed apple or jam or custard. Iam 75 now and one of my favourite treats is to quarter fill a 6 inch tart cooking tray with the batter/pancake mix,you get an enormous Yorkshire pudding then take it out of the oven and fill it with leftover curry and rice or stew or chili they are so versatile.

Marmite - think of it as liquid salt, you wouldn't put a layer of salt all over your toast, so don't do it with marmite. Lots of butter, maybe as much marmite as a pea or so on your knife evenly spead and mixing with the melting butter and then it won't be such a shock. One jar will last ages.

You were extremely polite about the tinned macaroni cheese, as I think it looks like vomit, although it's not too bad with a touch of salt; mushy peas are made from marrowfat peas and cook down really quickly - nice with a small pinch of sugar (I do get some funny looks off people when I add sugar to my mushy peas) and Yorkshire (pronounced Yorksher) pudding batter is traditionally cooked in smoking-hot lard until they are raised and light brown.

Hi, Marmite is made of Foam from beer and they add salt and other stuff to it. Then cook it. To reduce the foam. And mixing it as it cooks, so it will not burn on the bottom of the huge metal bowel. At regular intervals they test it to see if its ready to put in jars. When its ready its cooled down so the jars do not break with the heat or the Marmite. Stay safe from Covid-19 to you two and your loved ones.

Another great video from one of my favourite KZbin couples!! I have Googled the difference between Yorkshire puddings and popovers and the batter seems to be the same. The main difference seems to be that for popovers you butter the tall tins and pour in the batter before putting in the oven, whereas for Yorkies we put oil or beef dripping into the tins and heat in the oven until smoking hot before pouring in the batter and returning to the oven. One way to have Yorkshire puddings is to use 8in/20cm sandwich cake tins to make large ones, put sliced roast beef, horseradish, gravy etc into it and roll it up like a wrap. Another way is to make the large Yorkies and fill with sausages and mashed potato, or stew and potatoes and serve them like that.
@TheMagicGeekdom

Thank you, Paul! Yeah I think you're right that heating up the oil first is the main different. They taste pretty similar, but I think the oil makes Yorkshire Pudding a bit better!

so many ways to use marmite - like you did (but you did have far too much on the toast); but also you can smear it onto potatoes before roasting them (adds a nice beefy flavour); smear the beef joint with it before roasting (again, intensifies the beef flavour); or make a drink with it - just use a tsp marmite in a mug with hot water. This drink reminds me OXO drinks as a kid. You can put a little bit into heinz baked beans for an added meaty kick (no need for bacon then), into soups etc. Have it with peanut butter - especially on celery stalks. Or just plain marmite on celery (celery used to be an ingredient of marmite). Smear a little bit on top of melted cheese on toast (some people prefer the marmite below the cheese). So many uses.

With Marmite, the idea is to spread it very thinly on toast. You want to get it so that you can see the toast clearly through the Marmite. Another option is that you can mix it with Peanut Butter - just spread the Peanut Butter on the toast first and then spread a little Marmite - it really does work well.

Yorkshire Puddings exist in the US (at least the south) - they are called popovers. Re. macaroni cheese - out of a can is disgusting. But mac 'n cheese (as known in the US) is, in fact, a 14th century English dish! Dick means fat, as it does in German. Spotted Dick isn't a bread pudding - traditionally, it should be made with beef suet (hence the fat). And you really need to eat it hot with lots of hot custard (vanilla egg pouring custard).

The tins of mushy peas are the quick version, traditional mushy peas start off with dried peas which are soaked for about an hour in hot water and a steeping tablet (the tablet is provided in the box) you then drain the water and add some fresh hot water into a pan with the peas and then cook for about 30 to 45 minutes. Its time consuming but the taste is so much better due to less salt and preservatives than the tinned ones, sometimes the fresh version is done to go with a Sunday dinner as there's more time to do it and the flavour and texture of the fresh ones go well with a roast dinner

Mushy Peas, they are dried peas soaked, cooked, and coloured. 100 years ago, you would have bought dried peas and done it yourself at home. Soaking them over night to be cooked the next day. Just another way of storing food over the winter before freezing. Marmite, when I was a kid, it was advertised for babies moving to solid food. Bread buttered with some Marmite cut into soldiers. Back in the '70s kids grew up on Marmite and as such we love it, those that didn't get fed on it as babies really don't like it. Thus, the expression that something is a bit "Marmite" meaning you either love it or hate it.

Mushy peas are usually found at a fish and chip shop/stall in uk. Many brits eat them with their battered fish and chips. Personally my dad is the only person I know who likes mushy peas. There’s a saying with marmite in uk- you either love it or hate it. Me and my mum can only eat it about once or twice a year spread REALLY thin on toast. Yorkshires traditionally accompany roast beef and potatoes and green vegetables and gravy as part of a Sunday Roast. So the Yorkshire pudding can house extra gravy on your plate, and help mop it up. Speaking of gravy, another use for Marmite is as a gravy stock or buillon base. It's a blend of salt, acid and meaty (umami) flavours, so it works quite well with spare fat from the roasting dish and a bit of cornflour and water to simmer for a gravy. As always, sparingly. But that's one way to use it up if you can't stomach it on toast or in a cheese sandwich.

Next time you try Marmite, try miximg a small amount with about a 3:1 ratio of softened butter and then spread that, its much easier to control the quantity for beg9inners that way. It's also nice with slices of tomato on top, which cuts the saltiness and adds some additional moisture. You definitely don't need to buy a mix for Yorkshire Pudding it's super simple. Use a cup, mug, or jug (depending on the quantity you want to make) and fill with plain flour, empty into a mixing bowl, refill the receptacle with milk and whisk into the flour, then refill with eggs and whisk into the batter. Set the batter aside for about 30 minutes to rest. Put some high-temperature stable fat (Lard, Duck/Goose fat, Ghee, Coconut or Avocado Oil etc) into your choice of pan (anything from a muffin tray up to a solid cake pan or roasting pan) and place into a hot oven (225°C/425°F) for about 10 minutes to get good and hot (alternatively, at this point, add some raw, meaty, sausages links as well to make it into “Toad in the hole”). Working quickly so the fat doesn’t cool, pour batter into the pan to about half full and cook for about 15 minutes for smaller ones and up to 25-30 minutes for large ones or toad in the hole, until golden and crispy. Don’t open the oven during this time. Leftover plain Yorkshire Pudding is great with Jam. The same batter can be used to make UK style Pancakes, which are a slightly thicker version of crepes. Simply lightly grease a skillet/frying pan, ladle batter into the pan and tilt so the batter thinly covers the whole base of the pan. Cook until the batter is just set, and then flip and cook the second side for a minute or two longer. Pancakes can be topped with Jam, or with Nutella (and Banana etc), or simply sprinkled with Sugar, Cinnamon, and Lemon Juice. Once topped with your preference, fold or roll and eat. You can also use Pancakes for savoury dishes, for example, top each Pancake with a layer of Cream Cheese, then with a layer of Smoked Salmon, then the next Pancake, then Cream Cheese etc and repeat to build a savoury Gateau/stack which you can chill and then slice into portions for Canapes or starters. Or cook some Chicken breast chunks with Spinach, Mushrooms, Onions, and Garlic and mix with Cream Cheese and a little Nutmeg or Mace. Spread a generous amount in a line across each Pancake and roll loosely into a fat tube similar to Cannelloni Pasta. Spread a layer of Tomato Sauce in the base of a baking dish, and tightly pack the Pancake tubes on top of the Sauce, then top with a drizzle of additional Tomato Sauce and a generous helping of grated Cheese and bake at 160°C/320°F for 25-30 minutes until the Cheese is crispy and golden. Great served with salad.

"Pudding" comes from the French word "boudin", a type of sausage, that's why it's used in "black pudding" (the blood sausage) in English. Over time language shifted as it does and it came to mean a bunch of things, it seems to have at some point meant something like a more vague "thing in casing" and then from there it just ended up in a bunch of places, in the UK it's become just a general term for dessert even! The way North Americans use the word though, no idea where that comes from.

I love you guys x ❤ you give an honest opinion. The best beans in UK are Branston beans the pickle company yes! They are amazing and better than Heinz. Our mac n cheese is not as good as yours in my opinion, I recently tried the cheetos mac n cheese from my local American store and I was blown away! Marmite is not everyone's favourite, even for us brits! I don't mind it spread thinly!! Too thick it's rank!! Oh and Yorkshire puds are just meant as a side to your Sunday roast, just load the centre with beef gravy and bang heaven!! 😄

Yorkshire Puddings are great with sausages cooked in them as toad in the hole, and as you've cooked them are fantastic with a traditonal roast dinner. That way you can tuck into a nice fluffy Yorkshire Pudding covered in gravy with some roast meat. If you are having a roast dinner traditional sauce pairings to go with it are: Beef with Horseradish Sauce Lamb with Mint Sauce (vinegar + freshly chopped mint) Mushy Peas are usually eaten as an accompaniment to Fish and Chips along with tartare sauce and gherkins.

Mmm yeah, sorry about the Heinz Macaroni Cheese - that is literally canned disappointment. The few times I've had it, I've had to add so many extra ingredients to make it taste of SOMETHING that I just think "At this point, I might as well just make my own, from scratch." On the plus side, other steamed puds you should definitely try: syrup sponge/treacle sponge, Eve's Pudding (basically apple pudding,) Sticky Toffee pudding and chocolate pudding. But DO HAVE THEM WITH CUSTARD - it makes all the difference, I promise. And other sweet things to try are Bakewell Tart (or the miniature verson, Cherry Bakewells.)

As has been said here, for beginners that's too much Marmite, try it on toast with a slice of cheese, also if the shop....sorry store has 'Golden syrup' try that with the Yorkshire puddings (pronounced Yorksher) my family swears by them (that's a good thing). Also confirmation Garibaldis are also called squashed flies.

Yorkshire pudding goes with Sunday roast dinner! Veg, roast meat and gravy, the pudding is served hot! Or if you are from Yorkshire then you can have them as dessert with some jam. If you use the batter for toad in the hole you put the sausages in a roasting tin, get the tin hot and the sausages browned, then add the batter mix and put back in the oven.

Literally started binge watching all your trying british food videos (got a few more in the queue) and we personally love the Marks & Spencer big yorkshire puddings with a traditional Sunday roast or even with a rib eye/t-bone steak (seasoned with of course a costco montreal steak seasoning), goose fat roasted potatoes, marks and spencer potato salad and some beef gravy, so good! P.s. HATE marmite too looool but heinz spaghetti hoops heated with a bit of bit of butter, salt and pepper on buttered toast is cute. A bit of a childish meal but cute

Hey! Whilst I'm not a fan of the macaroni cheese in a can, I can explain why its a different colour to American mac n cheese - we don't colour plastic yellow and pretend its cheese here 😛 But no, seriously, American cheese ("cheddar") has colourings in it to make it the yellow colour, but we don't use colourings like that. Our cheddar cheese is a pale creamy yellow colour, rather than the neon yellow-orange you might be used to.

Yorkshire puddings with an onion gravy as a starter, giant Yorkshire pudding filled with beef stew, and Yorkshire puddings smothered in jam (or jelly to you) as a dessert, a 3 course meal using Yorkshire puddings😂 (and to confuse matters we sometimes refer to the desert course as having a pudding) As a Yorkshireman I'd just like to say those yorkie puds looked good.... Next you need to try to make them from scratch not using a packet mix. 😂

Yeah... Yorkshire Pudding Batter, it's very easy to make... Equal quantities of Milk, Flour, & Eggs... Crack four large Eggs into a large cup, and remember the level they reached... Empty the Eggs into a mixing bowl, then using the same cup... fill it with Milk to the same level as the Eggs, and empty into the mixing bowl with the Eggs... Lastly, fill the same cup with flour to the same level as before... empty the flour into the bowl, and mix all three ingredients together until smooth with no lumps... and there you have it... Freshly made Yorkshire Pudding Batter. 👍

Mushy peas I put some vinger on them yum. Mushy peas are from Process Peas or Marrow Fat Peas Most Americans spend Marmite way too thick. You should only put a very small dollop of marmite on toast. Mushy peas , at least in the south west of England is strictly for fish and chips. Either in a pub or from a chippy (chip shop) my Mum always had them with a battered cod or a fish cake from The local chippy. I hated them as a kid and always had the chip shop curry sauce instead with a battered sausage. As a kid I also used to use a Yorkshire pud to help get rid of my peas! I’d fill the middle with the dreaded green things and a ton of gravy and eat it that way. Made it much more tolerable! And pro tip for marmite, people use the words butter and margarine interchangeably to mean the same thing but when it comes to marmite the difference matters. I can’t stand marmite with real butter. But with margarine it’s my fave! Also cheese and marmite sandwiches! Margarine and marmite on white bread first then a thick chunky slice of cheddar! I recommend cheese and branston pickle too! Man I’m hungry now! Gonna go and make a cheese and marmite sarnie!

I don't like Marmite on toast at all, but if you put the tiniest amount in scrambled eggs: it's amazing! The hole in the Yorkshire pudding is perfect for filling with beef gravy. Spotted Dick really needs custard, or else it's a bit bland and dry. It's much better freshly made and properly steamed. Garibaldis need a nice cup of tea to sip with them.
