We're working with our new pup and Brandon's advise was just what I needed. Wish he'd just come and train for me haha but it's good for us and happy to have this new set of tools to use on our pup.

As a professional trainer and boerboel breeder this is one of the best introduction to the breed I've seen KZbin. My only concern is the decline of the breed and the "pitbullization" of the breeds reputation due to the increased popularity of the breed.

Because they are large and intimidating, inevitably idiot with small penises are going to get involved... Hell, if you go down a few comments, you've already got dumbasses talking about cutting the ears on Boerboels, which isn't part of the breed standard, unnecessary and idiotic. Just like with my beloved pitbulls, despite repeated warnings that this breed needs a firm handler, socializing and continued training.... There will be many folks that overinflate their dog handling skills and the boerboel will start to fill the rescues and pounds.

Boerboels are not known for killing people like pitbulls and staffys are. I think it's not a big concern as any breed is substantially better than the pitbulls/staffys

So glad he is still around. All dogs should have at least 20 year life span. We lost our American Bully who was just shy of 9 and it was unexpected and it's so awful losing these family members so early. Hope your member gets at least 9 more years. You never know, I had a pit live to 15 and if not for a disease he would have lived to 20. God bless u

Ours is 13 yrs old. He's my wife's retired service dog after working 11 years as a mobility dog. He went everywhere with us from movies to restaurants while being a body pillow for our grandkids to lay on while watching TV. They are very protective but trained right are gentle loving dogs. He just got to old to safely work so now he lays around enjoying retirement after helping to train his replacement our Anatolian Shepherd

I've had a long legged Boerboel for 4 years. Max is what I call my velcro dog and sticks like glue to myself or my wife, and is so protective of our property and other pets. He is very smart and learned very quickly. But I will say he is the only dog that I had to have professionally trained and the it was the best decision that I had made. One of the best dogs that I have ever had.

I've a wolfhound cross great Dane x boerboel, he is the best doggo I've ever had. He's a 150lb monster but I've never owned such a easily trainable dog. He responds to tone, hand signals and whistles. Very very protective but extremely gentle with children and other dogs.

Completely agree with you here, People who always go Kangal, Alabai, Corso as powerful dog breeds have never and I repeat never come across or felt the power of a Boerboel things are unreal they might not be as “Tall” as the ones I’ve mentioned but they are 100% stronger then them.

I am a new boerboel owner. Mine just turned one year old. Big boy, over 130lbs currently. Hes so smart and such a clown! Great with people but not so much around other dogs (except my other dog). Same here. A brother and sister. The female woke me up during the night and was restless. Eventually calmed down and I slept on the floor with her. Next morning she was gone. Don't know what caused it. Had to put the male down - he was +- 1$ years and his back gave in. Had to stand by during the procedure - he was a 55 kg dude and the vet needed some help. Worst day of my life. I still tear up.

Best dogs ever... for the right trainner. My 7 year old feeds and walks our 170# male boerboel. They're great family dogs, for someone who wants a drooling 170# bowling ball in their house and vehicle. This guy is not kidding. You will collect a small crowd around you wherever you go.

I had a well bred Boerbull on a farm in South Africa . Awesome dog! Great protector of the family, & gentle & protective of our Jack Russells. He was well socialised, so was great with people he knew, or once he knew we were okay with someone new. When we weren't home, his policy with strangers was to 'bite first & ask questions later'. Luckily not many people were stupid enough to climb over our gate. They aren't big barkers, so when he did bark we knew something was up (he'd even warn about snakes close to the house - even got struck on the face by a Puffadder & survived). Absolutely fine with horses & cattle, but not good with small livestock like sheep or goats. My neighbour's sheep kept getting on to our land & the Boerbull would team up with our two German Shepherds to herd the flock of sheep towards him & then he'd take out one of the flock.

My brother has three of these on his farm in Zimbabwe. His are not pure bred they are German Shepherd Boerboel cross. As puppies their bite force is tremendous. His neighbours say they make excellent hunting dogs and he's not had any issues with home invaders ever since he's had them

For guarding the borebel can guard on his own but with a pair is safer for the dog in guarding dangerous situation. ...ive seen one guard to extreme until he was almost dead....the enemy was anaihalated. Very impressed by your knowledge of the boerboel.. Your humorous comments regarding the breed were also much appreciated. As a south african boerboel owner I would beg to differ regarding intelligence, german sheperds are a lot brighter. There is a level of stubbornness that one has to deal with, especially in males that are not neutered. Mine is 4.5 years now and 70kg. The character of this fellow beats anything I have ever had, absolutely adorable. Very much a big man's dog. Your boerboel is a real beauty, stunning. I prefer the brown muzzle too, mine's is black which is more common.

The problem is not being neutered....it's the 71kg. I neuter the females if any on the premises but I beg you do not neuter the Boel. Mine was fine till had to do it at +- age11/12 and after that he just was not the same 😎

The best dog ever I love my girl she is so smart and loyal she loves her pop pop he spoils her and if they take a person is hurting a baby or a small child boy does she go off And wants to teach them a lesson very protective she has great drive plus she can also be very demanding she does not do that with me, but with her pop she does it sometimes and has to be corrected, but very smart very independent dogs and will show you more love than you could ever imagine

My Boerbel is 9 years old. I didn't realize the 4 different types and wondered why he was on the smaller side. He would be the hound type and I can see that on his eyes. He is still extremely strong and has pulled me across my neighbors front lawn on my stomach while changing a rabbit! He learned real fast not to ever due that again 😂 I love love my Boerbel ❤

I had a Boerboel, woody. I’m one of 4 siblings. He was the best dog ever. The biggest baby around all the family, but damn when that dude locked in, he was a shredded beast. The boy would bark like a dog u rlly don’t hear that often, proper deep voice. He was absolutely awesome, miss him every day. My sister owns a boerboel and I can 100% agree with everything you said. I want to add that, in her case, putting in the work and care, her boerboel is an excellent emotional support and companion animal. They do everything together. Her's is a female and follows her from room to room and sleeps at her feet. Seeing her dog in action, I have no worries about her safety.

Had three or beauty’s growing up on the farm in SA. Hardis, Goliath and Puppy when I lost those beauty’s from old age it was like a knife to the heart. Goliath would literally jump in the back of people’s bakkies “pickup truck” and try remove them via the rear windows he was an absolute monster of a dog! Nobody would come near them. He once chased a good friend of mine down the back of the property after I told my friend not to run as it would cause them to chase and he ran so hard into him he did a backflip and landed on his backside 🤣 He was literally just playing with him. Miss my boys! These dogs are incredible with kids and very protective over them so be warned because if a stranger comes near they in trouble

I've had 2 boerbuls. The most wonderful dogs. I had a Labrador at the same time as my second boerbul. . It was hilarious when I fed them, putting their dishes down at the same time. The Labrador had almost finished the boerbul's food before the boerbul got to eat out of her own dish. My gentle giants. Sadly my first boerbul was hit by a car, and the lady didn't even stop. My Labrador howled at night for a month. She missed Jody so much. So nice to see a video about my country., South Africa

I had a Boerboel, and it was poorly bred. It was shy throughout its short life of four years and developed lumps around its neck and legs that my vet said were due to its weight. Well, after the vet visit he died within three days. Be very picky and choose wisely on the dog breeder.

I love guardian breeds. I’ve had 5 dogo’s and while I truly love them they are a bit intimidating to neighbors and onlookers. The Boerboel is intriguing because its has a much less intimidating appearance IMO, granted their size is a different story. My last Dogo is getting older and slowing. I will be 50 this year and I don’t know how much longer I will be able to handle large breeds. Father time is undefeated.

My boerboel Koevoet (Crowbar in English) is 18 months old and weighs 88kg (195lbs). He is super protective and way stronger than my Rottweiler that I had prior to him. He is very strong willed but lots of training and patience paid off. This breeds is not for beginners. But boy will an intruder regret entering my property with Koevoet around.

Our friends have a boarbel and she is the sweetest dog I’ve ever met. Now smth to note our friends have trained their dog very well and she can walk nicely on a harness that attaches to the front. She doesn’t need prong or E-collar which gets me to my point, it depends on the dog some respond good to less pressure training and others don’t. It also depends on the breeder you get them from. I like it very much that you stress, in almost all of your videos, that the owner must be able to control the adult dog physically (as a secondary option, after mental control). However, given that most people will buy these powerful dogs when they are just 8 weeks old: 1) How do you know whether you will, in fact, be able to control him when he is an adult? 2) Are there any benchmarks (besides physical fitness)? Do you have to have very strong upper body strength, for example, and is this roughly quantifiable? 3) Are there any tricks when controlling an excited dog; for example, not pulling straight back to the direction the dog pulls but pulling diagonally, i.e., back and to the left, right, down, or up? Great video and dog, as a South African makes me proud. Only one criticism and that is there is only one breed standard for the Boerboel and therefore only 1 type type of Boerboel and that's a Boerboel. These other types are excuses for dogs that are bred out of the breed standard. My advice stay away from breeders that are offering you one of the types, more than likely crossed somewhere in their lines.

You have a 150 year gap from when the Dutch Bullenbeiser, arrived in the 1600s (1652) till the English bulldogs and perhaps mastiffs in 1820. The first English Bull mastiffs were only imported into South Africa in the 1950s so the Boerboel has got a bit of local dog in him

I have a South African boerboel 150 lb at 9 months old. Most of what he says is true as a form of pitbull on her boerboel is the only thing I'll ever have again if not a pitbull. Great breed

I have to say I love your videos. Between you and a few other dog trainers I follow on KZbin I’m going to try and volunteer at a local dog training facility near me that specializes in training military and police dogs so I can hopefully comfortably own one of these dogs and be a better owner for the ones I currently own. I have been in love with this breed (as much as someone who hasn’t owned one yet can) since the moment I first heard and laid eyes upon one. I had a female boerboel and she was my favourite dog. Smaller than the males. Loved children and other dogs. Negative is that she drooled. We got a dashound that cleaned her mouth 😂

The biggest dog I ever saw was a South African Boerboel mastiff. It was an absolute unit of dog. I saw it at a dog breeders house back when I went to get some Rottweiler puppies. He had a few of them. Thank goodness there was a fence between the dogs and me😅

this it the dog breed we are looking to get next but it will be in a few years. my husband really dislike big dogs but he is actually on board with a Boerboel and yes he knows the size but at the moment we have 2 dogs (one a tad to strange to take in a new dog) and two at the time is enough . So until our dogs passes from old ages we will not get another one. so until then education about the Boerboel is on both our list

Females make better guard dogs and males better protection dogs generally speaking of course there are exceptions. This breed is CONSTANTLY on alert and will engage a perceived threat without hesitation so training is a must. It's true, if they commit and you're a second late on the correction, they will drag you to to threat. They are extremely powerful, loyal, territorial and protective. They need stimulation and will let you know if they are bored, don't ignore their need for stimulation and exercise or they can become destructive. You MUST assert yourself as the pack leader with this breed. Great video.

I was attacked by a Boerboel whilst out on a walk in the country in the Karoo - I kicked it as hard as I could but all I did was hurt my foot. It pushed me into a cactus plant as well. Thankfully the owner managed to pull it off me otherwise it would have had me for lunch.

The Boerboel is the least drooly out of all mastiff breeds. You don't need an SUV to own one. I had a Honda Civic and I have two Boerboels. Depending on temperament, you may a high energy or mod energy dog. My mid-energy dogs match my energy and don't require a lot of exercise but are game for long hikes and runs if you want. They are definitely eager to please and you will either get a food motivated dog or affection motivated. They are a velcro breed, and they definitely will attract a lot of attention. My South African import looked like the red golden baby and I was stopped constantly to answer the same questions about him. Propel kept asking me if mine was a lab 😒 He looks like the one in this video except with a black mask and was a reddish brown.
