My husband is deployed right now...and I cannot even express how much these words are true. That last night together you're practically begging him not to go. But what the spouse wants doesnt matter. Its the military and we all have to pay the price, even those of us not serving. Our son was 9 days old when he deployed and he'll be 11 months when he gets home.

Hang in there, love. I had a similar experience. Our third daughter was 2 weeks old when he deployed and was 9 months when he came home. She's almost 4 now, and has been the biggest daddy's girl since about 2 hours after he stepped in the door.

Almost 10 years of repeated deployments...then the aftermath of war. If I could go back now knowing what I know today i would have never let him leave. Nothing has hurt so much as watching the man I adored fight this battle and not be able to do a damn thing because they shut you out when they get back. You didn't go so you couldn't possibly know, their buddies are the only ones they can really talk to...the ones that went with them. The military and veterans groups only make it worse when they pull the soldier away to retreats and activities trips etc so they can be with fellow soldiers since thats the only ones I guess they can talk to. Over 80% of my husbands unit was divorced by the 4 year mark after deploying to Afghanistan. If we didn't love our spouses so much we wouldn't have supported them and waited faithfully. Stay strong all of you soldiers and soldiers wives out there. Turn toward each other not away. If there are things you're going through reach out to each other love each other don't let this destroy your love and your family. These men and women are true hero's...they have gone through so much. They come home changed forever. Dont let them shut you out. Make it your mission to get help and keep your family together. My heart is so broken and I wish every day there had been some way to keep him from leaving way back then...but there wasn't and here we are so much pain hurt sadness I pray for miracles for us all and for love to overcome.

My husband's first deployment our second child was 5 days old, he actually got leave from training to be at the birth. He was 11 months old when Daddy got home. It wasn't always easy but now our son is 9 and it all feels like a moment in history. Prayers to your family.

I have no experience compared to the people commenting but I want to say that I'm moved to tears every time I listen to this. Just an amazing song that brings all kinds of people together emotionally. Up there with Hannah Rose Platt - 1954. I don't know anyone with alzheimers but the way that song is done, just like this one. It sends a strong message that just picks up your heart and speaks to it. My hat is taken off to these wonderful songwriters and my respect for the courage of those going through the hardest of times

Me and my boyfriend have been dating for about 5 1/2 months now. He is graduating from the naval academy in May and then getting deployed the following July/August. I’m nervous and I miss him already haha we go to different schools in different states so the majority of our relationship has been long distance, but when I’m with him I don’t want to let him go!!!
