Pitbulls account for 69% of fatal dog attacks involving humans in the US. They are also responsible for 62% of all dog bite-related fatalities in the United States. They should not be bred at all. There is NOTHING this breed offers which cannot be had from other breeds more safely.

Pit bulls are definitely not 1st time dogs in my opinion. The ownership of a pit bull should be taken seriously. I owned one once, he was a good dog but he was scared of men and children for some reason. I'm assuming he was abused when he was a puppy.

The reason the rate is so high is because of SHELTERS! They lie and assume they have a pitbull when in reality it’s an overly bred mutt with no lineage. Not to mention the backyard breeders who inbreed and have dogs that are genetic nightmares. probably from a backyard breeder so of course it’s going to be reactive, with a potential to bite. Pitbulls from AKC recognized breeders who do their health testing are absolutely fantastic dogs to work with and are friendly loving intelligent pets and can be great family companions

I have a rescue pup, found on the side of the road by someone else a few weeks prior to us taking her home. She was only 6lbs when we got her, skin and bones, "dewormed" with chewing tobacco from the original finders. They said she was the worst dog ever, so we took her in. Vet said "lab mixed with a small breed" which we appreciated at the time as home renters. As she got healthy and filled out, we realized very quickly she was a pit-mix AND SHE'S THE BEST DOG EVER. She was kennel trained in less than 5 hrs, knew sit in less than 10 min, and has been the most patient, loving, caring pup I've ever owned.

That seems like a grateful pup. Last stray I took in had been a roamer for a couple of years. Never knew because I only saw him the one time when i got off the bus at my grandma's house and petted him awhile until we went our seperate ways. He was a sweet boy but a little scared, i wondered if someone had been mean to him. I assumed it was whoever dumped him and left it at that. He wandered off towards the neighbors and figured he was one of theirs. We already had a dog and my parents wouldn't have allowed another at the time. I didn't even know he was still around until he randomly showed up at my house with my other dogs a couple years later. I definitely had to do a double take to make sure he was the same dog, but it felt like he actually remembered me. I greeted him the same way as I did years before and I think it's why he decided to trust me so much. I had been sweet to him then and it hadn't changed. I learned later he had not been treated the best by the neighbors. He just wanted a home. When I started feeding him, he jumped around like a maniac trying to knock the bowl out of my hand; this was understandable given at minimum he hadn't eaten for a few days and i figured out he hadn't been taught much manners either. As fast as he picked up on stuff though, i do wonder in hindsight if someone had taught him some things. But he could've been just smart. He was eager to please and food motivated even after he wasn't starving anymore. In less than a week I got him to stop knocking the bowl out of my hand, stop jumping, and to sit or at least stay on all fours before giving him his food. He was just so happy to be fed consistently, and even had his own bowl. I could tell he was grateful to finally have a family. He ended up as one of the best dogs that we ever had. He was some kind of beagle/foxhound mix. We even rounded it out with chickens, which he initially wanted to eat through their fence. He didn't know better, but to my surprise our other dog cloe (boxer mix) started telling him off for us when she realized we kepting shooing him away from their fenced in pen. We didn't even have to be out there for her to protect them, but I'm proud to say she taught patrick how to behave around them. No sneaky nips at them or any bs like that. Clay didn't need the strict teaching to understand the same lesson. I'm glad my mom introduced them to chloe when they were younger, she understood they belonged and taught the other dogs to accept them after hammering to patrick they weren't to eat or kill. Chloe was too smart for her own good sometimes and 100% a neurotic bully.

I had a Rottweiler as a kid and now as an adult I only want to have Pitbulls. Or a Pitbull mix. I’m also a veteran with PTSD and all that, and as an ESA, she replaced my therapist lol.

The biggest sweetheart I ever met was a female pitbull. She was a 6-year-old rescue from a shelter's death row, and she was so gentle and careful about where her weight was going, and would cuddle up next to you and rest her head in your lap. She would ask for permission to give you kisses. She has a very good home with an elderly couple who spoil her to bits, and I am so glad that they found each other and matched so well.

Glad to hear you mention the pitbull terriers i have had two in my life one when i was little who was super playful and we named him Brownie and my current pitbull who is a great mix of super sweet playful and calm and also much to smart for his own good he's 8 now but you really cant tell and i have trained him myself since i was a still a teen till now from watching trainers like you ive had him around kids of all ages since he was a puppy so his temperament is great and the one time he did get sick of my little cousin he ran in the living room and got his mom and even hes not the most perfectly trained dog he's so easy to teach that i still teach him new things whenever i can he's unfortunately been in a situation where he was attacked by another dog and even then because hes always been of the mindset that most dogs are new friends he sat there for a good minute while the dog latched on to him in shock luckily the situation only made him a bit cautious but didn't change how he acted around dogs in general hes just more likely to want to go the other way if a dog is being aggressive love your videos i do think one reason they get a bad rep is because some people get them thinking they can handle them when they know they cant they also don't react accordingly when they know their dog isn't great with other dogs or are just super dominant dogs

Ive had a lot of large breed dogs. My best ever was my Dogo Argentino pup. Learned anything the first time. Once i showed her she never fogot. I could wait months in-between and she remembered. One of my favorite things was her was a high prey drive hunting dog .But she would turn into my livestock guardian dog with goats. Moved cows as well. Unfortunately she passed away from skin cancer. That was the only negative with the breed. All white and that soft white underbelly, didn't do well in Arizona. She was a mostly inside dog too? RIP SWEET GOLDIE!!! I MISS YOU SO MUCH!!!

Thank you raising awareness about the pitbull, I appreciate any influencer who can speak to the bread from experience and knowledge vs. those that are ignorant and assume they know something. I have two, and had one that passed and they are blessings, perfect for first time trainers becuase they are very in tune with human wants and needs (more so than other stubborn breeds who get a pass because their musculature is hidden by fluffy fur, i.e. huskies or Gman Sheps). high rates of bites/attacks fatalities is because the dog is more common than others, if there were as many huskies in the hands of the unskilled and irresponsible the math would math very differently.

I was raised to ❤ the Heinz 57 dogs or mixed dogs as Tom said. IMO I think something happens to a dog who's been rehomed. They seem to be so loyal and grateful. I'll take an adult dog anyday. Those are my two favorite criteria, not breeds. I'd love to get a pit/pit mix, but I'm not willing to fight insurance and landlords. It is what it is.😢

When I was ten years old, I adopted a mutt terrier I found in a field. He was brave, smart, loyal, Loving, gentle to his cat buddies (was even a "mom" to a kitten), and hilarious. I had never trained a dog before, but he was definitely game. He learned quite a few tricks with me. He singlehandedly stood his ground against a gang of wild dogs, who respected him so much that they actually left without incident. He was our cuddle puppy. I still miss him greatly.

To clarify with the genetics behind the ‘silver’ lab, silver or blue as it is sometimes called is a color dilution of the black color in dogs. The problem with color dilution is that it is linked to a condition called color related alopecia. Typically developing after about two years of age the coat starts falling out leaving large scaly bald patches. Not all dilute dogs get color related alopecia, but it affects a significant portion of dilute dogs to the point where breeding for a dilute coat color becomes unethical.

Also, now I currently have a 8-week old mutt (Trixie) that is half husky, quarter lab, and quarter beagle. She is so sweet and well tempered. Labs will raise orphans of most species. I had a lab cross until 2 yrs ago when she suffered a sudden death heart attack. She'd played with her adopted son, she'd raised from a 7 week old pup. My Rosie raised rescue kittens, was an emotional support dog for my g-son, and provided love to anyone in need. She rarely barked, so when she did, we checked the yard. We think she was mixed with a Brittney. Her 1 fault was her tendency to find a weak spot in the fence and go on a walkabout. After decades of having purebred show dachshunds, my last 3 have been crossbreeds 😮and I love or, in Roseie's case, loved them dearly. She was my heart dog, as is the 2 orphans she raised, housebroke, and doggy socialized.

I’ve never been a pitbull fan due some not training them well. My cousin has one, 90 lbs of muscle. He’s the sweetest thing. I the only issue was when I brought my young beagle to visit the first time her dog tried to hump my 20 lb dog. He yelped. Her dog doesn’t know his own strength. Mind you he was neutered as a puppy but I know some dogs hump their entire life. I get it, we were on his turf. The dogs got a long but her pitbull would get frisky and try again. After tiring each other out I found my dog sleeping under hers. I’ve walked her dog many times and he’s never negatively reacted to anyone or dog. He’s a 90 lb lap dog, honestly. It’s almost impossible to keeps pitbulls out of the wrong hands, just firearms.

What you said about your boerbel and wife had me laughing. We had a giant schnauzer who had her giving me side looks when he was young (stranger suspicion etc). My response was so similar, "honey that's gonna be your five minute dog." Drop that leash and you've got five (which is a lot) to get the hell out of there, guaranteed. I 'm not sure she really got that until he passed, there was a sleep easy side effect that came with those challenges. I've got three female poodles now, which is about the equivalent to one gs in terms of door presence, maybe.

Same. Ours was a mutt/lab/pit mix. Her parents were apparently a lab/unknown mutt mix mixed with a pit. He was the sweetest, most docile dog. People loved him. People who had phobias of dogs were shockingly fine around him. We had a friend who was attacked and was terrified of dogs all her life. Marshmellow was the only dog she was okay with, and she’d literally let him lay on top of her as she sat in the recliner. Her just having his head by her head was something she would never do with any other dog, period. He was an Angel on this earth. We rescued him from a terrible situation. In fact the night we rescued him he escaped from the pen he was kept in…and ran straight for our Bronco, and jumped up onto the back seat. We thought we were gonna have to spend hours trying to catch him. Nope. He ran straight for the vehicle and was ready to go..

We are mostly Rott folks, and I like the relative predictability of a pure bred. However, we have had a few RottX; our first dog was a RottXSpaniel. Kind of weird, but affectionate. Raised our cat, liked most people. Another was a RottXPit, basically a scaled up pit with Rott colors. She was great with almost all people, liked kids, bonded to the kitteh. Her joints could not take the muscle, and she blew out a joint as an elder dog; but forr that, she might have lived a couple more years. Bozo was a RottXFila. Took mostly after the Fila; great with us and utterly vile with all others. Had some dog pals that he loved to see on walks. There is a home near us with really big draft horses; they loved him. Ted is RottXAustralian Shepherd. LOVES other dogs; protective, very affectionate with us. I am a fan of mixed breeds, even with the odd stuff sometimes encounters.

I have a male standard poodle Most people think this is a French breed but it is actually a German breed, the number one smartest dog, and was bred for hunting, specifically bird hunting. I don't enjoy hunting so I use him in field trials and people are shocked when we show up for the trial. Then he kicks their dogs ass and they're even more shocked. If anyone threatened me, it would not be pretty.

There is actually another that is coming back called fox red. It apparently was one of the original colours but was removed by the kennel clubs and it's starting to make a comeback. I'm not a fan of that colour because I've seen a few of them that have been more protective and less obedient. My favourite colour is the black, which I think is the original - I find they are the best, most obedient and most easily trained.

Silver Labs are said to be a chocolate lab variant, but older breeders suggest that silver originated as a mix of a Weimaraner and a Lab. There's no evidence as far as I know. A Fox Red Lab is dark variant of a Yellow Lab. According to breeders, a large litter may include black, chocolate, and yellow pups, although uniform single colors may be desired. As far as mix breeds, my favorite is a Golden Lab [Golden x Lab] mixed with a German Shepherd. A GSD is a dream dog to have but training and socialization are critical. The Lab x GSD seems to be a sweet, biddable dog that is intelligent, easy to train, and independent without being overly stubborn. And, you can always find a brown dog with a black 'GSD' mask at the local rescue due to backyard breeding... or just a couple of farm dogs that had a good time. ;-) I consider a GSD to be a more intelligent dog, but the mix seems to have an off switch and is able to be a couch potato, when I'm working during the day... I like Pits, but they are terriers with higher "drive" than Retrievers, and even shepherds. I don't think that most people have the patience to train them and keep them exercised .... And, I believe that's why Labs are so popular, because they are friendly and easy to maintain.

When I first started dog walking, I used to tell people to get the Golden Retriever if they've never had a dog in their life because I would say it was the easiest to train and best family dog however, since COVID, I have seen a lot of them that have been anything but the best. They are still lovable but trainability has gone downhill, and i've even seen some aggression in a few so, now I tell people who've never had a dog to get a Labrador Retriever.

Uh oh. I wonder what's going on with the Boerboel that he's regretting. I mean, it shouldn't be a head scratcher based on the breed, but those are some very tough dogs. My German Shepherd was the first working line power breed I've ever owned, and the first 2 years were a lot of tears and debating if I should keep him. He's 4 now and my best friend, and we got through all the tough times, but people need to very careful about what breed they want. The tougher you go, the more energy it will literally suck from your soul lol

Yes, I can definitely agree pitbulls are number one. They are so loyal and want to do whatever makes their owner happy. I gave my boy so much love and he was well trained, easy to train as well. He was food motivated. He was wonderful when it came to my child.. when i became pregnant, he knew instantly. He became attached to my body until ahe was born. He no longer slept with me but next to my daughter on the floor even though she was in a bassinet next to me. He loved her and followed her everywehere. He unfortunately is no longer here. He had cancer and I had to think of his quality of life and put him to sleep. It was the most painful loss Ive endured.. if i were to ever get another dog, i would go for pitbull.

Pitties are great until they're not. Too smart sometimes. My beliefs on this topic changed after watching 2 documentaries with comments from a plastic surgeon and a KZbin channel that warns about the damage they do when attacking. Almost always it's a family pet, not a trained fighting dog that uncharacteristically attacks. The family is shocked and devastated. Personally, while I'm certain every child benefits from the companionship of a dog💕 while growing up, I won't test it or put my child at risk with a bully, if only because of the WAY they bite. They're bite is so destructive to human tissue because of the way they bite and hang on. 🙁 This is just my opinion on Tom's choices. My sister's Bully, Izzy just passed away after 14 years of being a big part of the family.😢 If I had one wish, I'd wish our dogs lived longer. I'm so sorry for your loss. 💕

@@amusedBYfools I shared my story because in my case, he was right... However, if you had heard him, they will do anything the owner wants them to do. In the wrong hands... certain humans, have them do things that make the breed look bad. In those documentaries, and in most cases where there is a bad situation happening, it's due to the lack of training or lack of being social. Again, not the breeds fault... owners. This would be part of their training. The breed shouldn't be in the wrong hands. Every owner needs to train their dogs, understand them. Most families get dogs and don't learn the cues, or teach them to the rest of the family on how to understand their dogs. My child was never left alone and being a responsible owner, I understood his cues for how he was feeling. If he wanted to be left alone he went to his safe place being two spots in the house. I also raised my child to understand his cues as well. They had formed a bond and had respect towards one another. I had him for ten years and they were best friends. As an owner, I trained him well and he never bit anyone. Won't change my mind on getting another pitbull when the right time comes, as Im fully aware of how to be a responsible owner. Thank you for the kind words on his loss, it's been a year now since he's been gone. It's been difficult... I know you relate to that. I'm sorry for you and your families loss. I agree with you that I wished they could live longer!! Hope you and your family have a safe, happy, and healthy holiday season and for years to come! From a fool who cares for you. 💚

2 mini schnauzers .. terriers.. crazy if not trained correctly but mine were sooo well behaved and they say mini schnauzers are "talkative" well they weren't raised by me then. They barked if something was wrong and if my female sassy barked or growled in the middle of the night grab a weapon someone is screwing around where they don't belong. my male KC was a crazy cute dog but he wasn't the protective one though. Sassy was the guard dog.. KC loved playing fetch etc... but barking wasn't his thing..lol (both schnauzers have passed at the age of almost 16) The mutt in my pic is the black dog she is great pyrenees, alaskan malamute, black lab, australian shepard ... lol there's more she has 6 breeds total.. i have a pure aussie tri red and a mini american shepard both pure breed... favorite dog is the mutt she has many talents due to all those breeds.. no ball can hide from her and no food either lol

Hello Tom, can I use a Dogtra ARC 1200 collar for my 7 month Belgian Malinois? People tell me it will ruin the dog? My reasons are to use it to help obedience on really low settings like a 4. Other people tell me to do thousands of long line recalls before but I thought this dogtra collar would fast track the obedience if used correctly.

Nothing against mixed breeds but one should understand but you may not know what kind of temperament or energy level to expect . I am currently puppy sitting / training a mixed breed dog who is super lovely and athletic, but she can't be left alone while her owners go to work. She can play all day and make short work of Bones and toys, she's eager to learn and makes great eye contact. This is absolutely not a dog that's ever going to be left at home alone in a crate! I think they would have been better off getting a low energy breed. I want foolishly came home from a rescue with a frisbee obsessed Malinois. Well I like an intelligent athletic dog that one ran me ragged! She also liked to Chase bite and kill. She would have been great to have on a farm, not so much at my bed and breakfast. In order to insure my guests a pleasant stay, My next dog was a golden retriever. I like an athletic energetic dog that is not inclined to bite strangers. It's really bad for business.
