Brilliant!! Would you have any guidance for rope sizes for smaller and larger dogs? I have a 16 lb and 5 lb. Haha, my big boy pulls a bit, but that 12 mm beautiful rope is a tad big. I’ll probably hit a hardware store and check out sizes. Thanks for this. God bless.
@withforrest2 күн бұрын
@@debclair822 definitely try to see if you can find an arborist store near you. They have tons of options. You can definitely experiment with sizes but definitely don't go too thin. Somewhere around 9 or 12 mm thickness of rope for large dog seems to work good. Eight or 9 mm might work good for a small dog as well. Some places like to use diameter measurements in inches so whatever the equivalent is. Making this can take some trial and error so definitely be patient with tying the knot and figuring it out. Once you get the hang of it it is absolutely awesome.

@@withforrest I finally learned how to do a poacher's knot and tried this on my min-pin/chiuahua and did a test run... she tried pulling but immediately stopped, so it isn't a constant pull, and with time an training I think this will get her to walk closer in pace with us humans who don't sprint at full speed everywhere (that's her one speed). Hi, thank you so much for sharing this . Looked again and again, put on hold and so on, to get the job done. I made two for my dogs, but I wonder if this is normal.. When I pull on the leach, not only the part around the waist tightens, but also the part round the neck gets a bit tighter. To remove it, the two loops are easily adjustable. I also payed attention, that the loop round the waist went first. Already thanks for the feedback.
@withforrest7 күн бұрын
@@karinnijssen5600 as long as the loop around the neck isn't constricting and staying tight, you should be good. The neck loop will slide accordingly. As long as the chest loop is the one closing primarily. It may take some getting used to and adjusting the first few times. Once you have it, using it comes with ease

Pretty cool! What thickness rope do you use?
@withforrest2 күн бұрын
@@richardcranium8554 I usually aim for anything 9 mm and up. In this video I am definitely using a thicker one because I got it at an arborist supply store. It's probably around the 12 mm mark. Depending on the brand some of them are labelled in inches. This is I believe half inch.

aren't those dogs just in a heel, can you do it on an untrained dog? most people needing a no pull harness dont work their dog

@@OscarDesnoyers I started with this technique using this trick. Then over time with training and practice I got them to a heel. If I ever need to walk any of my dogs this is the trick that I use. In fact, I have way too much rope laying around my house lol.
@withforrestАй бұрын
@@OscarDesnoyers you are right. Most people who need a no pull harness do not train their dogs. So this can not only serve as a starter training tool, but it can also be used as a main generic lead for walking anywhere. Its hella simple to make and use and as I mentioned in the video, doesn't put pressure around the dogs neck, and it won't cause whiplash if the dog runs to the end of the lead. It's generally speaking quite safe. I also like it because it's quite escape proof.

@@Facectrl91 its not a harness. Harnesses encourage pulling, this does not. It's not wise to comment that it doesn't work when you haven't tried it. Many of my clients are impressed with how well it works as well as people who have watched the video have tried it and commented that it is working amazingly. Yes its a DIY idea, thats the whole point of the video. Why is this an issue? Just because its not a patented expensive product does not automatically mean it's ineffective. It is a unique and simple approach to prevent pulling that is not utilized or thought of by many, this includes companies and brands that patent products. If other no-pull methods aren't working for other people, this is simply another safe option. One that I have creatively thought of and successfully used. The video speaks for itself as I own 16 dogs and use this with them. Concisely put, your comment is not valid until you actually take the time to try it. Not with one dog, but many.
