Geesh feels like most GSD’s are leash reactive. Mine likes people (unless you abruptly invade his space) but damn he HATES all dogs!!!!! So going to a park is stressful so I avoid it. He walks great on a leash as long as I don’t run into a dog!

I'm always so shocked at how people come in saying "I tried everything" but the problems are literally so simple. Almost every person doesn't hold their dog accountable, their incapable of clearly communicating commands and they hold the leash so damn tight😂 Great job explaining to the owner and teaching them how to communicate with their dogs!

In this dogs ,defense,if his littermates were killed,and his mother rejected him..he was basicly raised as a Singleton Pup..He didn't learn bite inhibition or any other canine social skills from his mother.. .and littermates . I have a two-year-old Yorkie who is very reactive due to trauma and separation anxiety. I, too, tried to re-home him, but he started biting the respective parents and children. I know that with proper assessment, treatment, and above all else, training, I can help my precious dog be less fearful. I need to gain his respect and trust. The more I watch your videos working with reactive dogs, the more I see how the issue always lies with the owner. In many cases, too, the person has selected a breed of dog that does not mesh with their lifestyle or personality. I started training dogs when I was about 12 years old and am now 78. I no longer train, except maybe to help a friend or neighbor who has a problem, but I so much enjoy watching your method which is almost identical to how my method evolved over the years. You do such great work for dogs and their owners!

i wish all training clients were like this woman! humble enough not to argue about or justify why she does this or that a certain way and immediately able to take criticism and teachable not only in lesson but then again in practice! In just a few short minutes you had her remove any wall of defensiveness, open her vulnerability, be absorbant and take good direction, then be able to reproduce and perform what you taught her. Dog trainers train people too, btw. Some humans just need a looooooooooooot of buttering up before they're ready to forget everything they know and let you teach them xD

I figured out the "change direction when the dog is pulling" strategy on my own one day while I was walking my German Shepherd. I got to thinking that he started pulling because he wanted to get to something that was ahead of us, in the direction we were going, so, I would change directions so he would essentially not getting what he was in such a hurry to get when he started to pull!!! It definitely worked, I have also gone in right and left circles, alternating them so he would focus on following my direction.

A case study on terrible breeding : mixing powerful breeds without knowing what you are doing > letting the father be close to the young puppies > mother wont nurse, either this is a statement to the bad temperament picked by the crappy backyard breeder, or a statement to how stressful the incompetent breeder made the environment, it could very well be both > you end up with a potentially dangerous dog that missed out on a lot of crucial development, which I'm sure the breeders were intending to sell for profit. A lot of people out there would just hear this backstory and immediately give up on the dog. Massive kudos to everyone trying to give him a better life.

Wonderful video 😊 Relaxing with a reactive dog has been one of the hardest things I’ve had to learn. Everyday we get better and now he is much calmer (as am I), and the odd time he’ll just do a small whine and keep moving. I am not sure who was more worked up.....me or my dog. Dealing with reactivity is probably one of the most stressful things I have had to figure out and deal with. A 15 pound dog who thought she was 150 pounds had to learn that I was in charge. We can go anywhere now, but we once werr kicked out of puppy class! The class didn't allow corrections and they didn't believe in "leadership" for dogs. Once we got booted, we got a prong and a remote collar, and now have a well behaved dog we can take anywhere!

You deserve it. 👏 Just thinking back to those frequent, raw (and crappy video quality 🤣) sessions and how far you've come. I go back frequently to those and still share them with my clients regularly! So it is indeed a treat when you share these private sessions now, so appreciate it 🥰 Such an epidemic with all the reactivity right now in 2022......85% of my clients are reactive in some way or another as a main concern. So please keep it up with sharing these cases, so so so many dogs and humans can benefit, and deserve to benefit and learn to read their dog before spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on training or diagnosing. Plus, reactivity is so general.......there are SO many reasons it stems from, so many contributors- not simply fear or dominance, all these tiny contributors unique to each dog's personality and neurochemistry...coupled with the energy and communication of the handler....one things is for sure that you always say, obedience and leadership trumps all else. If you can have confident control of your dog, no matter the issue you can obtain proper management. You're right, would rather have a perfectly obedient man-eater than an out of control puppy any day! All these fundamentals matter. I also find that proper exposure to the stimulus they typically react to (dog/human/bike etc) is hugely important as well, people tend to avoid the triggers but I feel exposing to them more frequently (as slow as needed) creating and alternative more desired behaviour is more rehabilitating in the macro, in the long run.

I wish I would have known you years ago. Our dog, Stafford x Greyhound, came to us at 12 weeks, we were his 3th owners. And his last!! (He's 4,5 years old now) He had so many issues. Separation anxiety was one of the biggest. By giving the dog structure and confidence, we came really far. But now it's all about handling him. These videos help me a lot to take a look at myself. To keep getting better, and maybe help other dogs and their handlers some day :)

I have a Maltese poodle and she is very reactive to other dogs. We have a rabbit and they are best friends! She does well with people and ANY other type of animal including cats!! But other dogs she wants to like bite them and murder them….. it’s like super sweet and then super insane when we see other dogs on walks

Yesterday before I was awake, my husband inadvertently let our dog out. Instead of remaining calm and getting a leash, he attempted to drag the dog home by the collar. The dog rolled on his back and failed around in protest. My husband, who has a medical condition that makes his skin VERY thin, was SHREDDED from claws all over both arms. Now we are dressing his wounds to prevent infection. NEVER panic or try to wrestle an uncooperative animal. My question....is there a way to counter the "alligator death roll" some dogs do when captured by the collar??. My poor husband. Omg.

My name is Dave and we have 2 German shepherds . Names are max and Louie. Birthdays are 12/12/21 , they are brothers. It's unique situation and there great together . Nothing outa the normal realm of behavior I believe but that's only my opinion. I've been following no bad dogs for along time now and really use your redirect methods. My only problem is that I'm being challenged with some really serious heath issues ( cancer ) and these guys are in my heart like my children. Your the most amazing trainer I've ever watched they would be soo lucky and I would be very proud of how much better they could become under you for a day. I wish I was closer to you but unfortunately my health won't allow me to get too far away. We live in nj and have a pretty big fenced in yard with the woods backing the property. Any help or trainer training you would be able to give me would be very much appreciated and these 2 guys would love you alot for it. If you made up a kit called no bad trainers how great would that be... some video on training the trainer. Oh I love it. Please never stop doing what you do. There's never enough of what you bring to there world and I'm very grateful for your time and efforts. Thank you for the knowledge.

Hey Tom, I know you talk a lot about reactive dogs and mine are pretty well managed, but what do you do when another dog attacks your dog? I recently had a situation where a rottie attacked my 2 GSD's. They followed my directions, but the rottie kept coming at them. I know it's the owner's feelings they react to, but how do I get over my fears of another dog attacking? I really want to continue going to the beautiful parks we have, but am hesitant now.

I'll try and answer...Dogs don't hold on to the past..so its important for you to do the same..Try to imagine the BEST walk ever in your head!!.. and think of something that makes you HAPPY...Carry a walking stick with you...or pepper spray...if it'll make you feel better. You and your 2 dogs are a pack...so one dog is outnumbered...and it probly won't ever happen again. Keep on walking !! 😊

As cruel as this may sound , you may just need a weapon of some sort , as long as your dogs are not the ones reacting , and it’s the fault of the attacking dogs owners , you can use tasers , and spray propellent. You and your dogs safety always comes first , especially if your the victim, and maybe teach your dogs a let go command in case they do bite the other dog .

I suggest marking narrow ovals or rectangles in the floor paralell to eachother for the clients and dogs to follow.. And then a long oval around the perimiter walls..Like a racetrack..

I wish this was available in my area. I have an intact year old 80# Anatolian shepherd that is insecure and fear reactive. He was a stray/rescue. I’ve never had a dog with these types of behaviors. He tried to bite my son and the neighbors have had issues with him even though I live in the country with no fencing. I haven’t found anyone that is able to help. I found one trainer which is expensive but she really didn’t help much and the dog is super difficult to get in a vehicle. This channel is very informative with training. I am researching anti bite muzzles, collars and learning to train him so I can keep him if it’s possible.

@@tomdavisofficial If you have a moment to spare, I have an 8 month old Aussie. Ive followed all of your training videos and he is coming along great. Still not great in public, but we're getting there. Every other week for a day or so he becomes what I call obsessive or easily fixed on items. If I give him a chew toy he'll carry it around for an hour or more then go bury it. If we're playing fetch he wont drop the chew toy, he'll find a way of carrying both in his mouth. Every other day he moves from task to task without issue. Just wondering if this says something or if I should be training it away. Again, you are literally the best out there. I refer so many people to your videos.

This video finally convinced me to sign up and here’s why. This woman was used to an easy house dog and had no clue what to do with the reactivity. Tom didn’t judge, only explained how normal that was. I bought the sweetest, Rough Collie bitch which included a must breed to a Smooth stud so the 2 breeders could get puppies. We kept the two remaining male pups after she said we should put one of them down because it was a fearful. The other pup became an alpha working dog and we had our fearful working male. Argh, both reactive. We did the puppy schools but didn’t follow up long enough. 8 years later they are overly aggressive toward our rescue puppy and now we are aware of what we failed to do. This video really hit me because that woman is me 😉. The Shepherd was so intelligent and WANTED to do the right thing, it was so obvious to see and it was the “simple things”. No judgement, the lightbulb going off that working dogs want to work and do their job (I knew that but somehow it hit me differently watching this Shepherd), and how he showed her this is how you move your legs when you turn, and reactive dogs just want direction. I need to learn this!

Your videos have been invaluable in helping me train my reactive dog to be calm and collected around strange dogs/people. Thank you so much! My problem is when other family members walk him, they refuse to use proper leash handling and let him do whatever he wants. He reacts to other dogs when my husband walks him. He is a different dog when he is handled by me, much more calm and less anxious. Do you think this will cause him to regress over time? I hate to think all of this work would be for nothing. Do you think I should not let others handle him?

Your videos are great they're very helpful I've learned a lot I trained my dog myself he's pretty well-trained but he is feeling aggressive towards everybody barks at everyone and goes at them like he wants to rip dare throat out and it's frustrating because even though he's trained I can't take him in public we can't go in any stores he just turned one-year-old he is half pitbull half Cane Corso great dog very smart I was just telling my wife 2 days ago I wish I could get in touch with Tom Davis so he could tell me why our dog is doing these things so we can fix it
