After winning the start Ben would have been gutted to see TNZ get that shift. A shame we didn't see gb get a chance to lead in these conditions to then see what TNZ could do. Huge congratulations on the 3-Pete! Proud Kiwi.

@@troyburling721 That's right. You got to see what happens when the blown foils are turned on. Lol. You also got to see in races 5 and 6 what happens when they malfunction. A good thrashing by INEOS.

Squirt 🔫 rudder. The secret weapon that stole the mug.

Oh, it's the rudder now? Yesterday you said it was the foils. Wow, what a magical boat the Kiwis built, apparently it does all sorts of things the designers never dreamed of.

Why did ETNZ avoid further scuffles in prestart ? Fear of another system failure under gyroscopic loads in a gybe ? Not likely. The main reason would be to preserve as much air in her pressure tanks after crossing the line KNOWING that any deficit could be made up with judicious use of the blown foils on the first upwind leg. Of course the naked speed advantage was explained away by " lucky " windshifts. They also wanted to avoid blowing their cover by using blown water through a tacking duel and running out of reserve puff in their tanks. Balancing the need for cheat power while avoiding to much loss or gain of water and air dictated a more conservative strategy. Litteraly. The discharge and retrieval system would have been tuned and largely automated I'm sure. Pedal hard until you get a green light boys ! Winning the start was more a matter of exploiting the pre race pressure charging that did not have to be pedalled in to being. Post start, maintaining the useable ratio of air and water between manouvers by recharging via the cyclors. In heavy industry most automation is driven by air, not oil hydraulics. Oil is heavy and messy. So the system would be a hybrid of both types. Water cannot be compressed but it can be driven to extremely high pressures using air. If you need a visual of the concept of blown foils, look at a Dyson fan or the hand driers at the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron toilets. I bet those toilets have seen a lot of high pressure chunder over the year's.

Someone tell me this is a sailing competition and not, what it really is and has always been, a boat building competition? And why was the NZ boat so clearly superior (by some measure) than the 5 other boats on display?
@EvilKiwi76
@EvilKiwi76 Ай бұрын
I don’t think the boat was vastly superior. The general acknowledgment was it was just sailed better. That’s not to say it wasn’t a great boat.

@Mozzy Sails has some good technical videos at why TNZ were a bit faster coming out of tacks and jibes I think.
@EvilKiwi76

@@Ginlah Barcelona was also a venue where you had to be optimised for all sorts of conditions including the sea state working against you 50% of the time. The TNZ weather team are the best in the business at advising for the best sail setup for each race.

All racing is a combination of design performance and crew skill, maybe the NZ boat had some design advantage I don't know but that's part of the competition anyway it always has been, and even the best designed boat won't win without the required crew skill. And other than outright speed you can see many examples of where the tactics used were the reason for win/loss.

Individual control of the sheets on the mainsail. ETNZ were the only team to do this, which allowed them to effectively run that sail as a variable wing. This is the advantage of setting the rules, I guess. I'm sure ETNZ would have come up with this approach and then designed a deliberately vague rule, e.g. the mainsail must be composed of two sheets. Had any other team put 2+2 together they might have come up with a similar design to individually control the sheets, and that would have been well within the rules. At least, that's my guess. I'm no Dan Bernasconi.

I wonder which team will be playing reigning champions South Africa in the 2027 Rugby World Cup final or which team will make it to the 2026 football World Cup final to meet the reigning champions Argentina or etc, etc. Get some interest back int this sport ‘cos it’s even less exciting than Formula 1 after lap 1

The excitement, or lack of that you claim, is just your opinion, which you are untitled to of course, but most of us find this and F1 exciting and enjoyable to watch. You seem bitter towards NZ bringing up sports that are totally irrelevant to this video and which NZ aren't world champions of while claiming the AC of which NZ is currently the world champion is boring anyway.
