@@TIREPROD I think the North American auctioneer chant is unique, just like the pyramids in Paupa New Guinea. While auctions exist all over the world, they are purposely made clear and plain so everyone know exactly how much money is involved. The American auctioneer chant is the exact opposite of what the world does, so that is why it is an unique cultural practice.

Back in the 1960's in our town, there were two brothers who'd auction off the cattle. They'd each take turns, Ron for 45 minutes and then Ray for 45 minutes. Back and forth and so on and so forth until every cow was auctioned off. Over the radio you'd hear the radio guy talking about the auction and in the background, you'd hear one of the brothers auctioneering.

@ChamberSpell8 жыл бұрын
I stumbled on a weird part of youtube but I think it has something to do with pace. Since theres an awful lot of things being sold at auctions, it would make sense if you had to be fast. You don't want to spend too long selling something when you have about 100 more items to sell. That and I also think that speaking fast makes people react fast. Sometimes without thinking too. So better chance to sell something I suppose

@yLeprechaun6 жыл бұрын
They talk so fast because they have they have several hundred head of livestock to sell each sale day. The sale does stop and continue the next day, so they have to keep the pace up. Each lot should only take a few seconds to reach maximum bid. This is where your auctioneers talent and experience come into play.
