So great to see you all together again! Haha, wow, lots of stairs! Man, look at that ice. The lake is beautiful, but insanely cold. I lived in Thunder Bay, ON for a bit, and remember how impactful the great lakes can be. Merry Christmas to you all, and wishing you all the best in 2025! Looking forward to the HI trip! Sorry kids!

One of my undergraduate professors resigned her position at our large university to take a job at Hope College in Holland, Michigan. When I asked her what drew her to take that job, she told me, "It's Holland, Michigan!" I really didn't know what she meant...until watching this video! That's a beautiful place!

Crampons are your friend on those icy piers;) Also go check them out in February when they are covered in wind swept ice, so cooool. So parks flood their trails so you can ice skate on them. Enjoy the wonderful state of Michigan.
@AmericasParks14 күн бұрын
Yeah, some crampons would have make that short trek along the pier much easier and safer! Can't wait to see the frozen piers in person. And never knew about the iced trails. Fun in the winter in MI! Thanks for the comment!

Wow! You are in my backyard. I grew up in Holland on the south side of Lake Mac. Got married and moved just a little ways to the east. When looking for something to do, we almost always head to Holland State Park. Summer to swim, Spring and fall to watch the boats go in and out of the channel with a picnic meal next to the channel. There is one thing you missed. Up in the hills between Mt Picgah and the state park there is hidden in the woods along the sand dunes homes built in the late 1800's. Before the channel was built ,the water of Lake Mac ran to Lake Michigan in a stream that went to the north west. The homes were built along this stream. It is a historical district today and can be seen through the trees in winter but never during summer because of the leaves on the trees. Have a Blessed Christmas and New Year.
@AmericasParks14 күн бұрын
Great story! Heard about that stream when I was doing my research and saw the houses on our hike, but never connected the two. Just shared your comment with my family this evening.

99/100 because you didn't use the crosswalk at 0:28. Someday you should do the car ferry from Muskegon to Milwaukee and drive down to Chicago and back home. Your son has grown a foot! He can probably reach the top cabinet above the fridge. What else, hmmm....oh haunted tiki Brady Bunch Hawaii series scared me as a kid. Merry CHRISTmas.

Based on the sonic quality of the snow crunching, I'm guessing a temperature of 24F during that hike. 😉

Randy, really? You got a different church--in MI? I know your old one was on the edge of NYC in NJ? Are you in the LP or UP? More specific, if you want to be. Either way, Merry Christmas to "All o' y'all."😀 Your comment about the 2 states' differing opinions about winter seems to be true all over. Here in Rockford, IL, a lot of (not all) locals whine about the winter, yet just a few hours to the north, the attitude totally changes.

Actually still waiting on the Lord for a new assignment. Believed the work in NJ was coming to an end and we wanted to be back with our family in MI. Have a blessed Christmas!
