Whoa, wish I would have caught this after doing the belts on the GL1200 last year. Never too late though. Thanks much, those Gates part numbers are pure gold.

Very good and informative vid . But you made a statement in the beginning about having to remove the engine to remove the carbs . yes the carbs can be removed without removing the engine ....

What a lovely classic Honda 😊 I remember them back in the 70s I couldn’t afford one but had a CB750 👍🏻 So glad you’ve taken the time to keep it running Cheers Stevie 🇬🇧

On an old tensioner pulley that had dried out I managed to press the pulley apart then tease the grease seal out with a knife and re pack the bearing and put the seal back in press it back together and it did another 40k mile's before I sold it and was still OK! it was on a Peugeot 306 TD

I think the first thing every early Wing owner buys is that sight glass. My current 76 came with one in the tool tray. 👍🏻 on the Venture Bros!

Two questions I have are - I would have liked to have seen more detail about fitting the new pulley and bracket against that casting "protrusion". Did you file the welding/bolt down a bit more to make the bracket fit flat or did you grind down the casting protrusion? And, if you wanted to tighten up the belt on the right side, do you do that by adjusting the timing belt tensioner pulley bracket? Oh, where did you get the idea and part number for using a car tensioner pulley as a replacement?

My dad gave me his ‘78 GL1000 in ‘90, but ended up selling it to put a newly acquired ‘86 Chevy Celebrity wagon on the road. One of life’s regrets.

Happy new year brother. I used to ride motorcycles in below zed in MN. I did service work at Gates rubber. I got in the skunk works for the Hd belt drive. Plus the batteries before they got. Bought. Name that company They called me mystic.

7.4.21. I read somewhere one time that Harley Davidson contracted Gates Rubber company to install a belt drive for their primary drive on the Sturgis model, back in 1980, and Harley was floored when they got the bike back with not only the primary but the final drive belt driven! Can you confirm this?

You’re wrong, you absolutely can remove the carbs with the engine in the bike. It’s actually a very easy job

Adjust the valves and synchronize the carbs and it will stop that rattle, also make sure to use silicate free coolant or it will eat the water pump seal.

Great vid! So In October I got my hands on the same bike only mine is a 77 and I got it for free! Lol but the problem is it was sitting for 18 years!! Lol the guy just wanted it out of his garage so I took it lol she’s in rough shape for but with only a little over 6 thousand miles on her 👍🏻 but my question is is it worth putting money into it to get it running??? I’m not a mechanic so I’d have to find someone to get her going.... PS your bike sounds awesome! ✌🏻🇨🇦 PPS very informative! Can you answer plz

You can save money on those timing belts by ordering them from Napa but order one for the same year Honda Civic there about 8 bucks compared to Honda's $70

Where is the best place I can find all new rubber seals and belts for a 1986 Honda gold wing Interstate?? I am buying one tomorrow with a clean Arizona title. The guy fired it up, it has a misfire on one of the cylinders. And a slight backfire. I am thinking it sounds like a carb issue. It has 28,047 original miles on it. I want to bring her back to her full potential.

Maybe you can help had a open short on a 1990 SAAB 9000 CD 2.0t Fixed the harness and replaced Ecu but car wouldn't start. HERE WHERE IT GETS INTERESTING. The car will start with starting fluid the the main fuel relay and fuse are working but the fuse under the glove compartment has no voltage to it. Using a Power probe to supply the fuel pump the pump will run but car wont start unless I use starting fluid and I can smell a little Gas but without starting fluid not even a hint of a fire and no start. One other thing no tachometer movement. This started with a Auto Zone Relay that was bad and shorted out and melted my harness.

If that gave the bike 40 years of service with the original tensioner pulleys then a new set would give you another 40 years.....that's a long time.

Anyone else lose concentration for a few seconds when after putting his arm under that bike lift he then withdrew it before informing us to put the safety bar on? I just visualised what would happen if it had collapsed a split second before he realised. ARRRGGGGHHHH! 6:13
