Hey guys, so in this video we were trying to go to a location i found online to dig for Amethyst crystals but we weren't sure were were in the correct location due to my maps not downloading correctly. We just decided to continue the path and see where it took us. Luckily it took us where we were wanting to go. Ended up finding lots of river/creek tumbled Fluorite crystals, some were mixed with Malachite and Azurite. It is on BLM Land but be careful there are claims in area. We had a interesting trip taking the riverbed back down. If you take the creek bed down to the road you will run across many drop offs ranging from 10 foot to 60 foot drops. So if you chose to take that route it will be an intense hike for you. The trail is about a 45 min hike compared to 3 hour hike by river.

Just a word to the wise. You dont always want to take the creek beds. Some will get you lost. A mistake that could cause you damage if not death. Otherwise, have fun stay safe. Always make sure you are in public lands that allow removal of gems/minerals. And please leave the land like you found it.

100% agree. It’s been years since I’ve been to this location but I fully agree. No more creeks lol. Always fill in any holes dug, take out what you take in. Leave no trace.. See trash pick it up. Do extra research to make sure your not on private land or claims.

@@RockHoundingAdventures Dude where you are at is epic. But from what i can call from memory is....the area where they ride that Enduro "hair scrabble". You can see it from the hyway on the right, like 10 mi out as your getting close to Gra J. heading south. Plus all that area around the base of the Gra Mesa. Im from canon city, colo. But went to country jam 11 years in a row, 20 some years ago. Im 50yrs old now, and haven't been back since, but i can recall playing golf every year we went and we pkayed at one where there was a hole set atop a chimney type cliff. You had to walk across a rope bridge to get on the green. If you missed the green your ball fall like 100 below. But heck i left there with all kinds of shells, bone frags, pointed teeth (aquatic) coral. If you want dino....then you need to come visit me or head to Vernal UT. Not to far from ya. Ive worked construction most of my adult life and in evey state thus side of the mississipp. I could write a 1000 pg book of places to go abd places tgat were good but now picked out. But your style us what works...if for whatever reason a place calls out to you....Obey and go to it when you can spend some time. If you research an area of interest, hit me up and pick my brain. No shit, nearly 30+ years of hounding, ive got stashes in 12 states. Returned to one in kingman az 9 years later and found every pile. Cherry picked it of course, cause you cant road trip in a 5T dumptruck...HAHA....OK ILL SHUT UP NOW, CAPS JUST TOOK A SHYT, SORRY NOT YELLIN AT YA..ok got the caps fuxed MY # IS....sevenuno9dosoct969foruno....got it? I’ve actually been over to the mine (I know this is way late) but I was about a year ago, sadly both mines had to be caved in but it exposed the upper portion of the amethyst vein, which has that green fluorite on top, it was fun to pull some pieces form the source

I can't believe you didn't mention the small pieces of gold on a few of those nice specimens. In fact cripple creek has tons of gold associated with Amethyst quarts veins and also has calaverite.
@RockHoundingAdventures
@RockHoundingAdventures Жыл бұрын
So I haven't seen any gold in the area. The gold color you see is actually chalcopyrite which is a copper iron sulfide mineral normally found with copper ore, and this area is in the copper mining district. One day soon when I have to go to colorado springs I'd like to stop by Cripple Creek for some panning and rockhounding. Thanks for watching

Does that creek have a season when it runs? Thats when I would go to that place, the scenery would be great with a bit of water. I am also surprised there is still colour in that float flourite, the sun bleaches it out with exposure. Did you check its glow under UV?
@RockHoundingAdventures

I’m not sure, maybe in the spring to early summer when it rains a lot, I would have to ask a local there. Most of the fluorite in under the dirt. Yes, most of it glows a neon blue.

Is there somewhere nearby where the granite contacts the sandstone? In the vicinity of the veins? Around here those contacts are very productive for amethyst. Honestly, it seems like the area you're in might yield better fluorite specimens if you can find some vugs and get into cubes. I read a few of the comments and saw that you'd gone back and found more, I look forward to seeing it! I love seeing what others find for amethyst! Cheers!
@RockHoundingAdventures
@RockHoundingAdventures 4 жыл бұрын
Thirst Fast hey man, thanks for watching... I didn’t see any areas where the sandstone and granite met. I did go back and dug in the Creek bed and found better specimens then the this trip out. The Amethyst I found were more tiny chips, broken pieces, or small crystals formed on small seamed Fluorite. I plan on going back a 3rd time in about a month or so with some shovels and shifters.
