Haven't seen this setup in 25 years! Seems like I remember the pindicator lights staying on during the second shot cycle.

Ken-Cliff Lanes we had pindicators, but not sparemakers...no arrows. It’s very well possible that they had been modified to keep the remaining pins lights lit during the second shot though. Everything else had been heavily modified and improved upon.

Ken-Cliff Lanes by the time I got behind the machines, the pindicators were long gone, but we still had 40 8230s running. The majority had been heavily modified. Our head mechanic, who retired after Hurricane Katrina, and passed away recently, came up with a lot of the modifications and would travel to bowling alleys all over the south installing these things. We had a few unmolested pinsetters that still worked without the modifications, but most would seem somewhat foreign to an 8230 mechanic. Interestingly, we had one chassis that had the solid state replacement to the stepper, but it wasn’t usually in use. I think it was something he was experimenting with and it was buggy. He was constantly reworking the steppers and for the most part, they were trouble free.

I worked on Brunswick pinsetters during the early 1970s. Great machines, but … the AMF 82-30s, I believe, are superior in many ways. Just for starters, the pit conveyor seems like it would be more efficient than the shaker pit.
