Also, Embiid is 100% to blame. I'm a Celtics fan and I've watched every series that the Embiid-era Sixers have played against Boston. In every series, Embiid underperforms at critical moments. It does not help Philly that he's not a high IQ player. Boston consistently doubles him because they know Embiid struggles to make the right read, let alone the right pass. They also know that despite his size, Embiid will settle for jumpers rather than push into the paint, even against a smaller defender. This why Boston is fine with rotating guards and wings to defend Embiid. Of all the big name teams in the East, Philly is the one I fear the least because I know Embiid doesn't have the IQ to lead his team to a win. Maybe one or two games he manages to dominate and secure a win, but most of the time Boston wins handily and makes it look pretty easy.

Honestly, if I'm Philly I rest Embiid until after Christmas. Then let him play and remind everyone about the awesome stats he can put up. Then trade him in the offseason and build around Maxey for the future. The fact is that Embiid has never even gotten this team to a Conference Finals. It's time to give up on that and instead set up for the future. If Embiid has a healthy month or two, he'll drive his trade value back up. Also, moving towards a Maxey timeline would get the Sixers out of the window of having to compete with the juggernaut in Boston, as well as giving time for Cleveland to potentially break up and Giannis/Dame to age out. It just makes more sense.

In order to understand Morey's analytics, you need to think of basketball like a game, which it is, but in this thought experiment it's more like a board or video game. In this game, you have a limited amount of 'points' called dollars that you can spend, which is pretty much what dollars become once you are NBA-owner rich, and the limit is the hard-cap and the aprons. So just like a game where you can choose between a few ultra-powerful units, supported by expendable fodder, or a large, deep, yet weak army, with the player crunching the numbers to figure out which is best option, an NBA GM has to figure out what combination of players he can afford has the best chance of winning. This is literally how baseball works these days, WAR has a literal dollar value that GMs put a number on, and if you do it the 'old school' way, you end up like the White Sox. This is what Morey does, but unlike MLB, there is a limit in how much a player can be paid, even if their actual play is worth even more. THAT is why Morey chases superstars, because they are 'undervalued' because they are actually paid LESS than what they are worth. This level of 'analytics' may be so simple a child can understand it, but it still fits his approach of finding undervalued players, and regardless, it's not limited to just superstars. I think people forget just how good those Rockets supporting casts were, the Rockets were regularly turning nobodies and washed players into valuable assets, and that was all due to Morey's system of finding undervalued players with an analytics approach. I'm not going to defend Morey entirely, him ignoring actual human personalities and fit is what is causing the absolute disaster going on in Philly right now. Even back in Houston, it doesn't matter how great analytics say Dwight Howard would have been as a PnR rollman if he just straight up refuses to do it, I just think that people don't understand the logic behind his superstar driven approach.

That's why it's so important for Rooks to get good coaches that will hold them accountable. Just check out Jalen Green. Stephen Silas just pretty much let him do what he did. He scored a lot but was a liability. Ime Udoka benched him and called him out. He's now playing better because if he doesn't, then he'll get benched. Embiid has had coaches like Bret Brown and Doc Rivers just let him do whatever. Butler even said how nothing was said much when they watched a video. Accountability was not upheld for him and Simmons. They were celebrated as unicorns right away.

Decade later and the young guys they got during that era of losing were- MCW, Nerlens, Dario, Jahlil, Joel, Markelle, and Ben.... In that same span, plenty of teams won games and still built great rosters by actually making great moves. While PHI fans praised their dumb GM for trying to take a shortcut. So funny in hindsight but every PHI fan that believed in "the process" deserves this outcome.

Sixers can't draft to save their life. Gj bud. We realize that. The right picks and they woulda had 5-6 years of domination before the cap even became a factor. It wasnt the concept. It was the execution

Raptors won a chip without any lottery picks on the roster. Jus sayin' Sure, it was lucky for them that Durant went down, but it was still an amazing team without a single lottery pick. They beat a very strong 76ers and Bucks that year to get to the finals. Good roster construction is so much more than just throwing a bunch of lottery picks together.
@davyunwashington36133 күн бұрын
@@lyleugleman3773 demar was still a lottery pick and without him being in that trade they wouldn’t even have a championship

@@davyunwashington3613 That's fair. Poeltl was also a 9th pick like Demar and part of that trade. It's still pretty impressive what they managed to find deeper in the draft and FA leading up to the finals run, though. Namely Siakam 27th, OG 24th, and FVV undrafted. It was all done with no top 5 picks at least.

I'm not on the Kuminga hype-train. I think he's alright, but I'm really glad we didn't give anything up for a post-prime PG13. The misses on Lauri and PG were blessings in disguise for the Dubs.

Embiid doesn't have the mentality or work ethic to be a champion. This is the most misleading and disappointing type of #1. He has the talent, physicality and athleticism to be a champion so they keep hope only to suffer from continual disappointment. I wish Philly had a franchise player that was worthy of that passionate fanbase.

Joel is far from being a team player. Last night against the Grizz I have at least 4 clips of him throwing up his hands on his teammates. Two times where he did not even make an attempt to defend just stood there.

Yes Embiid is a big part of the problem, but what do you expect when the first 3 years of his career is the organizational attitude of "Eh, the higher the draft pick, the better"? At this point, I appreciate Embiid reinforcing what I've been saying about the process for the last 10 years.

Nikola Jokic has a laid back demeanor not reputation. The man is a literal workhorse, when he’s not grinding out an 82 game NBA season he takes care of a stable full of horses. Jokic and Embiid aren’t even on the same planet

Some teams need to learn how to cut their losses early. With or without him, you're not winning the NBA championship. Trade him now, while he has value, and rebuild around Maxey and PG. Get one or two impact players for now and picks for the future. He's too injured, too often, to be your franchise player.

Imagine what could've been if sixers were trying to build their team this hard 25 years ago. Allen Iverson would dream of that and would play even without limbs just to bring this city a championship.

Embiid is just worst person in NBA, crying, flopping, no work ethic, sense of entitlement, no honor, professionalism, grit. If he did all those things in backyard court, after two days noone will call him to play ever.

The Sixers and the Bucks are the biggest disappointments this season so far. Especially the 6ers, they tried to address their flaws from the previous season, got another Jimmy Butler kind of player in PG. got Embiid the best back up in Andre they were even lucky with their rookie Mcain (shades of MCW). It feels like they are cursed.

I think the Jokic comparison was kinda silly. Jokic is outwardly distant or detached from basketball, whether that is because of not liking the media or seeing it a job, or whatever, we can all agree on that. But if you look at Jokic's career and how he acts, he at least is professional. If the team isn't doing well, he says he needs to do better. He has clearly improved his conditioning over the years, and there is always signs that he understands a lot about the game, which given how things changed over the years he has been in the NBA must mean he is studying and working on his game a ton. Embiid, at least from these reports, clearly isn't professional. That all said, it's interesting that Embiid and Jokic were in the same draft, and both sat out at least a year (Jokic overseas league, Embiid 2 years because of injury). But the very professional Jokic was the 41st pick, almost a random talent found overseas, while Embiid even when he started playing in College was basically the preordained first pick (falling to 3rd because of the injuries). Man the 2014 draft was weird.

Embiid wanted to play in Paris so bad because it was his only guaranteed chance at a World Championship.. The odds of him carrying a team to a Finals and then winning it get slimmer and slimmer as he ages and gets worse and injured.

Are they shutting him down? I though Silver said there was no more load management or shutting players down. Adam needs to stop lying. Injuries are the biggest problem with the NBA. GM's are hoping their players will play in 45-50 games a year. That is not the formula of a Championship team.
