Problem is that Niko Harrison did not think AT ALL about how this would affect the team chemistry/culture. The entire team is constructed around Luka and most players signed to play with him. Oddly enough, AD has played more games than Luka over the last two seasons, despite his reputation. Luka simply doesn't want to train at the highest level to control his weight. He's so skilled that he can do that, but his poor defense has made him a target for other teams at the highest level. And he and J Kidd may not really see eye-to-eye. Zion is younger than Luka and the problems with him were immediate. It's not even close to the same situation. There's always risk that a star player will get hurt or won't perform, but you don't give away an MVP caliber player because something bad MIGHT happen. The upside is just too huge. Odds are Luka will be awesome for years to come. You can talk about his conditioning all you want, but he's been playing 60+, 70+ games and put in good minutes in the playoffs. If he's scoring 30 pts/gm who cares if he looks a little chubby? I actually think his game will age really well vs guys that are more reliant on athleticism.
