The reason the Heat COULDN'T get him help was because they were overpaying several of their players. So they didn't have enough money. Bam, Herro, Robinson, Lowry, Whiteside, the Johnson brothers, etc. all are/were overpayed. If you continue to overpay for above-average players, you're going to get below-average results. The fact that Miami went to two Finals since 2020 with these guys is a miracle. Jimmy was a GREAT player who is just good now. And he is always injured or sitting out. And his EGO sometimes makes him make the dumb play on the court. Two years ago, the Heat would have beaten the Celtics and gone to the Finals if he had just gone to the rim with 19 seconds left instead of pulling up for a three-pointer. That was inexcusable. Pat is a legend, but he is getting older. Who is he trying to fool. They have a 35 year old Butler who is unhappy, they dont want to resign him for a high amount, so they dont believe he is valuable anymore, yet he'll make 55 mill next year if he doesnt take his option and the year after he is a free agent. Sure Pat can sit this out, but it will hurt the franchise. They can unload 55 mill contract and get something in return NOW, or not do it, have an unhappy Butler for another year and get nothing. The notion about how Pat didnt give Wade a big contract at the backend of his career is not a great example for Pat being smart. What has Miami won without Wade? Nothing, absolutely nothing. He was key to all their championships. Miami in their whole history has 3 championships, and they desperately needed Wade for every single one of them. It's been the same narrative with every team that he's played for. I'll never question Jimmy's competitiveness & intensity when playing the game, but outside of two finals appearances, I think Jimmy Butler thinks too highly of himself at times, thinking that he's the centerpiece to a championship team, when he has nothing really to show for it. If he'd have at least a more decorated resume or Championship experience, I'm sure teams would be willing to put up with it, but there's a reason why teams have moved on from him in the past despite being tremendously talented.
