A couple of notes on the production figures I spitballed: 1) the $250k number for tooling/line setup came from Tommy himself. It should be a lot less though. 2) the per-unit Production Cost is based on prior info of it being about $160-180 4 years ago, plus the substantial cost increases that Phil noted multiple times (bringing it up to ~$220, which would retain the same margin under the new pricing), plus a premium for the smaller production runs (this is why the cost changes between 2.6k and 10k). Also note that the production cost includes not only the raw materials in the BOM, but also assembly costs, packaging costs, cables, chargers, etc, and shipping/palletizing, final logistics, warehousing and distribution. I have not included the $40 per unit Customer Acquisition cost that Nick Richards estimated, because at least the first 5k units are already "sold" (I estimated 5k preorders remain).
@gateroozeink5061 Жыл бұрын
Also keep in mind, Intellivision would need to rent new offices and hire staff to allow production and release to proceed, plus account for returns, slippage/spoilage, etc. New console game sales are pretty much a non-factor since there are 6 free games and most Founders already bought the 8 physical games, so there isn't much more to sell - plus Republic take 25% of gross and the developers will get 50%. Any profit is going to be eaten up by added infrastructure and support costs.
@gateroozeink5061 Жыл бұрын
It won't let me edit the comment any more, but wanted to clarify the older estimate of$160-180 production cost was based on a quantity of 100k units. Also thanks for kevtris on the production side, though he personally thinks the cost will be even higher than my estimates!

I think the Bavarian money was the only money that was really earmarked for games, which is why they show the most progress. The grant money was spread out among several small studios which is why the games look cheap. Listening to this, I keep on thinking about how Intellivision was stating that these games could not be delivered or played on any other system, because of the innovation around them. Now, they are selling IPs to other companies to port them to other systems, and using a phone app to allow play via smart phones. On top of that, I am as confused as NSG is on how they can be buying IPs when they can't afford their own IPs. To me, each time they release information - it's just confirming more and more that Amico is dead, and if anything does come out - it's going to be a shallow shadow of a game that doesn't even compare to the plug-and-play games of yesterday...

At this point I could care less of anything Amico. At this point if I want anything Intellivision wise I would just want a FPGA of the original system, that can: 1. Use interchangeable controllers. For controllers there can be the classic style (though with better/longer lasting internals), or a more modern controller that is similar to the Jaguar controller with a analog stick instead of a D-Pad. 2. Have people creating actual new Intellivision games that can work on the FPGA system, and/or the original hardware including system 2. 3. Be compatible with original accessories, or have them built in like the voice module. 4. A kit to make your own games. That would gain more customers than a digital vaporware device ever could. It was a lot of wishful thinking, but there was too many things that made the Amico into a failed project at best, and fraud at worst with all things pointing to worst at this point.
@MrTBoneSF Жыл бұрын
Might as well get a MiSTer system. To play Intellivision and most 8-bit consoles, computers, and arcade games, it would cost less than the Amico. You don't even need to get the fancier RAM and IO expansion boards needed to run 16-bit and 32-bit (and soon N64) systems. It's FPGA, it's open source, and you can interface classic controllers with relatively cheap adapters.
@JeremyLeePotocki Жыл бұрын
@@MrTBoneSF Yeah you are right to some degree, but there is more than one FPGA chip out there with some that can be way cheaper to obtain. It may not be powerful enough for all the cores a MiSTer can do, but enough to do a Intellivision core. Also most people that would buy it would not want to deal with setting one up as well as they also want a cartridge port as well as a nice case that may resemble a classic System 1 or 2.

I have a Atari VCS and I actually enjoyed it a lot more then i every thought i would. I mostly play Antstream or the Recharged games. I dont really see the point of playing Atari games or Amico games on my Series X or PS5. I have played some Atari games on my Steamdeck, but the point of my comment is without the Amico console I dont really wanna play these games. The games were made for the Amico and the controller, I just dont feel that interested in the games without the system, I bet the Amico could sell 20 thousand systems pretty easy. The system has been talked about so much now, i believe people who wasn't planning on buying one would now just because of everything thats gone on. I just feel like at this point Phil and John have thrown Intellivision fans under a bus and then thrown tnt on top of the bus to make sure everyone was blown away. Phil in my opinion isn't planning on making Amico, hes just selling off everything he can before the company goes out of business. The sad part is someone will end up buying the Intellivision ip for almost nothing and we'll never hear of them again. Keith fault hard to keep Intellivision going and Tommy at least tried to do something. No i dont think Tommy scammed anyone or set out too. I believe Tommy was just in way over his head.
