It's not a "highly abusive" relationship. Only an unequal relationship. While the singer (Lama or Fabian) clings desperately to the other person, this person seems to not have feelings nearly as deep, and to want to live his/her life independently from the singer. I think that it's the singer's attitude that is deeply unhealthy, here, not the other way around.

And a clingy, possessive, jealous person might feel very bad when the person she's obsessing about leaves, but it doesn't make her a victim. A healthy person unhappy about an insufficiently present partner or a too superficial relationship doesn't keep obsessing about him, abandon all of her cherished activities, fall into alcoholism, think of him 24/7, etc... She dumps him and looks for someone more fitting. Maybe the person described in the song isn't a nice person, but he might very well be someone who just tries to keep some distance when dealing with an absurdly possessive partner (the singer) who can't accept that he has his own life independent of herself, we don't know enough to tell. But the attitude of the singer, reported by himself/herself is on the other hand clearly and unambiguously obsessive and unhealthy.

This jaw-dropping performance was my gateway drug to Fabian a couple of years ago. And I've only grown to admire her more as I've delved into her work. This was indeed a cover. Even more interesting, perhaps, for her ability to take it and make it feel 100% authentic and raw and in the moment. She tweaked it pretty substantially: slowed the tempo, added to two a capella sections, I think added the lyric "this love is killing me" among other changes. All her choices perfect. She has top tier vocal technique wedded to an otherworldly ability to get at the emotional core of whatever song she takes on. An all-around artist, she composes and writes (in French, English, Italian and Spanish) the vast majority of her songs. Lara Fabian was born in Belgium and moved to Quebec as a young woman. She returned to Europe for several years then back to Quebec. Her first language is French and most of what she sings and writes is in French, but she speaks seven languages and her English, Spanish and Italian are fluent. She writes some of her music in English and Italian. She wrote "Broken Vow in English and Adagio in Italian and English versions. Dimash sings her song Adagio. She is one of his role models who taught him how to communicate a story with his singing. She has appeared with him and Igor Krutoi who plays piano and writes for Dimash, also plays for Lara.

Indeed, French-speaking Canadians are well versed in French culture and look more often towards France than towards England. hahaha... no competition thinggy with Celine and Lara other than for sales where I'm from. But ahhh, you are good. Lara is Dimash's idol. So... yeah. Song progression and storytelling is what the deal is with Lara, she's an idol of a new generation of signers like Dimash... Lara is from Canada, born from belgium + italian parents, fluent in French, english and italian but sings in other langages too. The performance you watched is one of the best performance of all times. There are many other great songs in the same concert, from Lara with love in Montreal (and it's been filmed by public TV, so no IP problems). This song was written by Serge Lama and composed By Alice Donna , and singed originally by Serge Lama. At this time Serge Lama was known for a very different kins of songs, so this song went unnoticed on its first release. Then another french star , Dalida, covered it, and it became a succes either for Dalida and Serge Lama. In my opinion the best version is by Serge Lama , since it's his song and it sounds more like a true intimate feeling when he sings it ( not to mention his voice and great talent as singer)
