It’s great to see videos about the A1000, especially for those of us lucky enough to have one. She may not be the fanciest or smartest, but she’s a true original in the history of personal computing.

I exchange my A500 with a A1000 from a friend... He was happy and i very happy ;)

You and I are older than the A1000 and we still work ok. The best part of the A1000 is when you turn it on and she comes alive the worse part remembering where you put the Kickstart and Workbench Disks. A lot of people Poo Poo the A1000 but when it came out it was the most amazing computer every made at the time. Ya know I never bought an Amiga any model new even back in the day. I bought an A1000, A500 and A2000HD all used. Today I just continue that tradition like everyone else.

Nice video. I guess this A1000 has a kickrom.... I need to wait for my Gotek to load kickstart. Got a Spirit Board too. Never had an issue......well, except when I put it on incorrectly when I needed to get to the floppy power socket underneath for the Gotek. I thought I'd bricked the whole system. All I need now is to get my PC Sidecar with a HD working.....and that's....hard.

Chris, do you know if those are the same ram chips to populate a 500+ for Chip ram? If you think so I should order some. Also, I never thought of clipping the ground cable to a foot.

no these are smaller, these are 256Kx1's A500's use 256K x4 so 8 chips is 512, not 16 like this old bird.

Not sure if you need to add a battery the clock chip, It looks like a ”Dallas Chip” which may have a build in battery. You may have to replace the whole Chip.
@oledave2540 Жыл бұрын
The chip is an SGS-THOMSON MK48T02. Like the Dallas parts it has a built in battery that no doubt died a long time ago. The clock will most likely still work if you initialize it on power up with the software on the Spirit disk. Note that STMicroelectronics makes an updated version of the chip called the MK48T02 that has a calendar that will work until 2100.

Isn't that Spirit board really fastmem, just living in the slowmem address space? (or is it refreshed by Agnus?) Technically, is it called rangermem when it is in an A1000?
@ChrisEdwardsRestoration3 жыл бұрын
No ranger ram is used to hold the kickstart in a pseudo nvram for the amiga to use. On warm boots. It works so thats fine by me. The 1000 was always light in the ram dept
