It really was that slow. I remember drawing circles with AmigaBasic as a kid wanting to learn programming. Even back then I was shocked by how slow BASIC was.

and u were lucky enough to have an Amiga; most of us had C64 or even TI99-4/As! slow as molasses but that gave us the push to learn Assembler

Yeah... I told my Amiga to draw a hat in 1989. Should be finished this summer!

I can remember typing things up in this for the first time, thinking it was going to be turbo charged compared to my old 8bit. Didn't use Amiga basic after that.

I have Amiga 2000 and Amiga 500. A great variety of colours and sound when PC was only black screen.

you mean like 1987 when IBM PS/2 had VGA graphics with 256 colours out of 256k palette? That was black compared to 32 colours out of 4096 palette of Amiga? Are you kidding me? Amiga fanboys never get it...

I liked maxon Basic. Was still slow compared to C or Assembler, but compiled to native code and was mostly compatible with Amiga Basic.

Well it dropped it self, did not support later versions of the OS, and did not support memory expansions, Microsoft did some strange with this Basic.
@napomania5 жыл бұрын
maybe it was better in that way, because basic was not the better language for programming a computer with a custom hardware like the amiga. 8 bit era was pretty over

I had a C64 in Feb 1984, a C128 in 1986 and an Amiga 500 in the 87-88 xmas. I'm not sure which one impacted me the most, they all defined my childhood and my life.

Tholse old times omg. Today you just go and code some games in C++ or C#. Working with GOTO, no Classes
@kjetilhvalstrand10096 жыл бұрын
Not because it written in C, because it interprets text, "read x chars" what is this word, look a table with strcmp(str,tab[n].str)==0, find the command, execute command. Amos Basic, translate command Print to a index number, so when you execute command it commands[index].function(…), that’s a lot faster then what commodore Basic is doing.
