Amiga DTP - PageSetter 2 on Workbench 3.2

In this video I look at installing PageSetter 2, from floppy disk, onto my Amiga A1200 using nothing but an external floppy drive (because my internal drive is a Gotek USB drive).
Following along with a solution by a gentleman called ‪@GrahamBrownVirtualTours‬ (see here: • Pagesetter II Installa... ), is it actually possible to install DTP software from floppy designed for Workbench 1.3 in 1989, on a modern Amiga running Workbench 3.2?

Thanks for the tutorial on redoing those scripts. Amiga was ahead of its time in 1991 with the AmigaOS 2.x installer. The AmigaOS 1.3 installers were always kludged together

Nice video, I'm trying to remember which DTP package I used to use on the Amiga, I think it might have been pagestream.

Thank you. Yes, Pagestream seemed to be the better product, and still exists today on the PC if I recall.

@@YawningAngelRetro I ended up looking it up after watching your video, and you're right they are still developing it for Window/Mac/Linux/Amiga OS3/Amiga OS4 which is quite impressive. I think I got my copy on a cover disk, I dare say Gouldfish could tell me which edition of which magazine.

A very interesting video as always. Not quite my scene but cool to see workarounds installing software. Pagesetter II was something I never used on my Amiga but might have a play later as I have a copy on cover disk somewhere. Many thanks

A great video. I’ve been tinkering with Pagesetter on and off and have just ordered a boxed copy of version 3 so I have a manual to reference. With some faffing, now have the relevant software installed on my Mac (PS2PDF) which takes the postscript file and converts it to PDF. The quality looks superb. I believe older versions of Mac OS would convert PS files using preview, but that functionality seems to have been removed.

Ah, I need to source version 3 of PS, just to complete the set. 😁 Thanks for the heads up on PS2PDF, I should get hold of that as I’ll be looking to move PS created files to a modern platform for printing etc. Thanks Rob. 😎👍

The initial complaints about missing commands can safely be ignored. It tries to copy the commands to RAM: for speedup, but in 3.2 these commands are already in memory so apart from the messages being annoying it is irrelevant.

Thanks for the comment, but it still fails the install using the main script as it can’t find the missing commands. Hence the ‘hack’. 😆

@@YawningAngelRetro I find the Amiga to be one of the easiest and most powerful computers to work with. If you want to do something, there's a good chance the Amiga will let you.
