Back in the day I used to work (and spend virtually ALL my waking hours on the weekends) at a disco. It was SO much fun and all my friends were there! Sometimes we'd go on break and we'd hear that Knock On Wood "triplet" beat (three drumbeats in the time of one beat) getting mixed into some other song and we'd all SPRINT for the dance floor because we knew it was coming, and we were willing to dance the 5 to 10 minutes until it finally DID get mixed in and become the primary song being played. Oh, how I miss those simpler, easier times.

My classmates in the nearby "vecindades" (small communal living) would throw disco / tropical parties. Mexican society has always been liberal af in some ways. We got down to this stuff and the parents joined in: Le Freak, Boogie Oogie, You Should Be Dancing, Disco Inferno, Dancing Queen, I Feel Love, Get Off, I Will Survive, Play That Funky Music, Fly Robin, I Feel Like Dancing, etc. But I had to go back to LA in 1981, right into the hair metal scene. 😎

I love how you can hear the origins of 80s synth pop in 70's disco. This is a perfect example.

Definitely. Disco was so unpopular after 1980 in the US. It came back disguised as synth pop!
@EddieMillerStudios5 жыл бұрын
I think of this song as a passing of the torch. The 1970's and disco are both "near death", and this song is at least one of the moments where the torch is passed to the sound of the coming 1980's.

How is possible? Youre 44 minus 14, so This would be 30 years Ago, in the 90's but in the descriptions says that the tune came from 79 years, please don't tell me lies lol

@@tresestrelas386 You've got your math problems intertwined. OP said that the SONG is 44. 2023-1979=44. Also, if they were 14 when the song came out, then 44+14=58 tells us that OP is now 58.

1979. Whyalla, Australia. I was in my final year (matric) at High School and on 'the Edge of Seventeen' see what I did there..? 😁 when the phenomenal and beautiful, Amii dropped this song. It was on the radio, constantly, along with two other massive songs of 1979, Hot Suff and Bad Girls, by the Queen 👑 Donna Summer. I remember, these and Knock On Wood being played at our end of year, school social, a fabulous night at the massive school hall and we all went dressed nice, not like these overblown, ridiculously costly, Prom nights. Absolute halcyon days 💖

There's not a lot about this song that dates it to pre-80s. It's impressive how forward-looking the composition is. And not to forget the absolutely KILLER vocals. I can only imagine what it was like in the studio managing to get such a flawless performance on tape.
@michaelamanandamouse79044 жыл бұрын
Did you know this song was a cover of a song from the 60s? Eddie Floyd. I thought I'd mention that because the composition is even more forward-looking from that perspective - if that's what you mean by that phrase.
