This is a stellar performance, but the most humanely touching was his farewell performance to the opera stage at the Met when he sang Tosca..people clapped and wept, because his singing the line "and yet never have I loved living more" at a time he knew he had pancreatic cancer, from which BOTH his parents died.

I saw him once in concert. Unbelieveable! His first name was Lu CHEE a no. This aria is from the 3rd act of "Tosca" His character has been tortured that's why you see see the bruises and the blood. He is in prison awaiting execution and he starts writing the last letter he ever will to the love of his life. He then starts to remember the joy he had with her and those are the words he is singing. The music is in a minor key because of the tragic situation. I would encourage you to study the whole opera. It's a wonderfully dramatic story and the other famous arias in it are amazing.
