Glad you have gotten around to Alma Deutscher! This performance was a charity concert in aid of research into infant sudden death syndrome, held in Kent, England by the parents of a little boy who did not wake up from his afternoon nap. Alma and Amira had previously met in Switzerland, at the invitation of Sir Roger Moore, and had done an earlier performance of this same song. Alma invited Amira, who spent the previous night in Alma's Tree house, no doubt cooking up this performance - you may not have noticed, but on the last note, they both stick their tongues out at each other. Alme Deutscher is well worth a study by herself - she is perhaps the most amazing prodigy of this century. She did indeed write a full operatic performance of "Cinderella" - including the complete orchestral score - and participated in the first public performance of it. By the time she was ten, she was already a virtuoso concert performer on both violin and piano; watch her performance of the Mozart K246 piano concerto and also her performance of her own violin concerto. Here she is doing the Bach double concerto: Bach concerto for 2 violins BWV 1043 (on Intermezzo with Arik)

Young Alma started playing the violin when she was three, and the piano at 4. By 5 she was composing. Like Amira, she couldn't help it, the music kept flowing. She has now completed the opera and performed it a couple of times. Directing and conducting it herself. There are some amusing videos of her asking soneone to pick 4 notes randomly from a hat, she then pauses to think for a moment, then launches into a piece of previously unknown music, of very high quality. I'll try and load one onto your request form. They make a great pair together.

Paul: If you haven't seen Alma's opera Cinderella (the improved version with her conducting the orchestra) you should do so.

Great! Actually, in this video, Alma was 10 years old and Amira was 11. Alma wanted to see if the soprano part in her opera was good. And which soprano would she ask to sing and evaluate? Amira, of course. Note that Alma was standing close to the microphone, while Amira was standing far away. Yet her voice filled the church. When will there be a scene like this again? Probably never again.

Yes, Alma was one of the most astonishing child prodigies in the classical scene. She composes, writes, sings, plays piano and violin. Even though Amira sings better, Harmony Zhu is a better pianist, Chloe Chua a better violinist, and Mozart a more innovative composer, the combination of all these talents in one person is spectacular in itself.
