Dimash does seem to sing even better these days. More depth and nuances, if possible! It was a remarkable performance. But a shout out to Hauser too. I love his playing and he seems to form a special bond with everyone he plays with.

👉 This performance of SOS (Dimash's calling card) took place on the sidelines of a benefit concert in Singapore. Dimash and Hauser know each other from the Virtuoso competition 2023 in Hungary. This competition was created by Maestro Placido Domingo for young classical artists and Dimash and Hauser were there as judges. That's how it all started: In 2017 Dimash received a wildcard for the “The Singer” competition in China. He was the youngest participant ever (22 years old). Foreign participants were actually forbidden at that time. The director ignored the ban, believing Dimash would only stay 1 or 2 episodes and then go home. This competition is not a talent show. Only professional, award-winning singers participate. Nobody knew or heard Dimash before and he had to start first ... and after his first song "SOS" Dimash captured the hearts of over 600 million viewers and a mega-star was born overnight. If you listen carefully to Dimash's voice in this video, you will realize that Dimash's voice is exactly the same as the one he performed at Slavic Bazaar 6 years ago. Ray Vandenberg has put quite a few of these videos together, he called them Song Stories, images that are pertinent to the lyrics, and sub-titles if he felt they were needed. Sometimes, as here, he cuts in shots of Amira singing the piece from one of her performances. They add an extra dimension to the soaring notes Amira delivers. She has also sung this prayer in English, and closed her African Christmas show with it. It's very moving.

The music is from a game called Warhammer 40k which is originally a fantasy sci-fi tabletop miniature strategic wargaming type of game, there are different types of miniatures that represent fictional factions, groups, nations, empires and races, it relates to the video because one of these miniature groups are hulking warrior space marines that are part of an intergalactic empire commanded by an autocratic warrior emperor akin to a real life Caesar, so people on the internet quickly drew the connection of the image the russians and Putin have built around themselves and the fictional characters in this game, the mixing of religion and war, Putin's own warmongering as a wannabe modern day Caesar, the revival of Byzantine Eastern Roman symbolism, the blurring of the lines between the Church and the State an the expansionist aspirations of the russian federation. This interplay of religious elements and war elements that comes from Russia makes for some pretty outlandish and dystopian scenes that resemble something out of fiction, like Putin bathing himself in Holy Water, the Russian Orthodox Patriarch preaching war directly from the pulpit, orthodox priests blessing missiles, tanks, piles of AK 47s, russian soldiers going to war wearing crosses, bearing icons of saints, flying banners and flags with icons of the face of Christ as they ride into battle.

I agree that Dimash has gotten better. I have noticed a change since the Istanbul concert. There is so much more depth and storytelling skills. In so many of his earlier pieces, it seemed he was still trying to prove himself to the world. Now, he seems so much more confident. He knows who he is and where he wants to go in the future. We are so blessed because of this.

Great reaction! Here Amira sings in Afrikaans. She has sung several times throughout her life this prayer in Afrikaans. Amira also sang this prayer in English at the age of 16, displaying spectacular vocal power. I think an observation about the special quality of this rendition is in order here. Allow me to be hyperbolic. We all know that Amira is an opera singer. And that she takes her career as an opera singer extremely seriously, combining her unique talent with a huge amount of dedication, study and training. It's practically a way of life. And that she is already among the best of all time (for many, myself included, she already is). But even so, Amira's relationship with her belief and her Savior is much more intense, more serious and a big part of who she is. So when Amira sings religious hymns, she unites these two dimensions. And then her performance reaches the pinnacle of musical, emotional and transcendental perfection. The Lord's Prayer is the only prayer created by Christ Himself. So for me, when Amira sings this prayer, I feel that the Lord is listening attentively, from very close to her, passing on much love and hope in return. I almost feel like an intruder, listening and watching in fascination and wonder at this scene, this unique interaction, all this light.

They were in Singapore. Both were judges or part of the jury on a program called Virtuosos last year and collaborated on Ave Maria. Virtuosos is a Hungarian program showcasing young artists in the classical genre. Anyway, the Virtuosos team performed at a special event in Singapore recently and Dimash and Hauser performed there and performed this collaboration. 😊
