Lyrics Song begins at 0:53 There was a time when men were kind When their voices were soft And their words inviting There was a time when love was blind And the world was a song And the song was exciting There was a time Then it all went wrong I dreamed a dream in times gone by When hope was high and life worth living I dreamed, that love would never die I dreamed that God would be forgiving Then I was young and unafraid And dreams were made and used and wasted There was no ransom to be paid No song unsung, no wine untasted But the tigers come at night With their voices soft as thunder As they tear your hope apart As they turn your dream to shame He slept a summer by my side He filled my days with endless wonder He took my childhood in his stride But he was gone when autumn came And still I dream he'll come to me That we will live the years together But there are dreams that cannot be And there are storms we cannot weather I had a dream my life would be So different from this hell I'm living So different now from what it seemed Now life has killed the dream I dreamed

This is a really good performance but this song is so deep it needs a really good backdrop and setting and I hate to suggest Amira is a little to young from giving it an adult actress best. I have no doubt she will completely own it one day Amira is so good this is inevitable.
@Empoweredwoman12345 жыл бұрын
This is a very good observation and I've got no doubt that her voice will mature as will she hopefully. I'm not so sure that she will ever own this particular song, as it requires a person to really have suffered immeasurable hardship to make it their own. Amira has a beautiful little voice, but this song is forever owned by Susan Boyal, who was abused and left to rot for many years by her own family, who show little interest in her until she became famous and started making the money she rightfully deserves. Perhaps she could build up the courage to do what Meghan Markle has done, and not speak to her family anymore. Of course, I don't actually know why Meghan is no longer close to her family so I can't comment too much.I feel that due to her parents allowing her to not only begin professional singing at the age of 9, but also relocated to South Africa so she wouldn't have to have normal childhood restrictions in Holland. It appears that her life has been a Walt Disney fairy tale with few of the normal challenges faced by all of us while we were growing up, and this includes financial limits as well. Kids need to do normal kid stuff, like going to school, running around with friends, being with their families, and doing homework, unless there is abuse or mistreatment of some sort, or the child has a disease/disability that will subject them to too much discrimination if pursuing a career in a normal job.Starting a professional singing career before age 16 or so is just too young, because the kids grow up feeling special, and that the rules don't apply to them like the do to other kids their age. The parents often tell them how wonderful they are, doting on them and giving permission to do what they want. When they get very close to adulthood, they really start misbehaving towards the doting parents and other people when they don't get what they want. Another problem is that the public is led to think that only little prepubescent girls can sing opera beautifully and that adults can't. This means that if a woman wants to sing opera but sounds like a strong, belting, powerful adult instead of a child, they have less chance of getting their individual voices heard by the mainstream public.I think that only disabled or very sick children should have professional singing careers, as this would build confidence and may even set up a decent future for them if things are done right and the child puts the work in once they reach adulthood. Also, money earned as a child would help keep them financially afloat later on so they reduce the risk of having to look for regular jobs and face hardship by discriminating employers.There needs to be a balance of ages when singing opera. When listening to child opera singers, they in fact have very similar types of sounds and don't really sound very individual. They sound like Walt Disney children.I do hope that the homeless adult opera singer recently discovered at an L.A subway station can begin the process of bringing common sense back to the music industry.

@@Empoweredwoman1234 See kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5DQooirfah8hJI (This one has English subtitles). Amira IS at school; and she is not a professional singer - though she is testing out what that entails. She is where she is, mainly by her own enormous determination. Why should we bring our really talented people down? So that the mediocre can succeed? That will never work, though Carl Marx preached it, and Lenin promoted it.
@Empoweredwoman12345 жыл бұрын
Hi there. Sorry if I came across the wrong way, and I don't at all think we should bring talented people down for any reason, nor do I think untalented people should succeed. I'm not sure where you got this idea from. All I did was point out in my own way, that it takes a certain level of mental and emotional maturity to manage a career in entertainment. Many kids who started before adulthood have turned out with behaviour problems over time. I just wanted to say that kids need more boundaries than adults, and should not have access to their money until they turn 18. I did not say anything bad about Amira. She appears to be a nice kid and she's indeed very talented.Justin Bieber started out as a nice, normal 14yo kid, but after he became an overnight star and got older, he started throwing tantrums and storming off the stage at some of his concerts. I hope his parents regret not keeping him under control until age 18.Lean Rimes, a talented country music singer, began recording very early and was topping the charts at age 13, leaving regular school when it no longer suited her. She came across as mature on TV interviews, but on closer inspection this wasn't real maturity as it only lasted a short while. By around age 17 or so, she reportedly kicked her own mum out of the house they lived in, and sued her dad for some financial reasons. Treating her parents like this when they have done nothing but let her have free reign over her own life and access her money before age 18 is very unhealthy. She was given too much freedom before she was really old enough to have it. Maturity takes time to build, and kids need to have normal ups/downs in order to develop their characters in a healthy way.Lindsay Lowan was an overnight star at age 12 when The Parent Trap came out. She made some other movies too. Eventually she took drugs, and developed a sense of entitlement that had probably been there once she became famous and was allowed to be treated like someone special compared to other kids.I love Amira's voice like so many others, I just felt that I Dreamed a Dream is too old for a young person, even if they are very talented. I like Susan Boyle in this song because she's a great singer who brings life experience to her music. She succeeded because of her gift and nothing else. She should have been given the support she needed to begin her career from at least age 18, but was left to rot on the false assumption that she was stupid and would not amount to anything. Her own family didn't care about her at all, only their own convenience and ease. Her mum did care a bit, but discouraged her from having a normal life.We should not assume that sick or disabled people are mediocre. I think they are just as talented as those born luckier, but need extra help to get started. They also appear to have smaller egos and care less about being rich or famous. They just want to do what they love and are good at. Many of these people show what determination really is, without the benefit of good luck, and help to try and make our society more inclusive of people in different life situations. If these people are not given the same chance as others from an early enough age, they face a horrendous future of unnecessary discrimination from others through no fault of their own. Not because they have nothing to offer, but because they appear to be 'different' on a superficial level. A blind autistic boy named Kodi Lee just won America's Got Talent this year and his voice/piano talents are equal to anyone without impairments. There was also a rock performer who was blind. He was just as good as the other acts even though he didn't get as far.I'm aware that Amira is at school but just assumed she was singing professionally because I've seen so many videos of her performing at concerts and other environments. She's also recorded albums.I'm definitely not a Marxis or any other type of extremist. I hope I've set this one straight. Have a great day.
@dafyddllewellyn66365 жыл бұрын
@@Empoweredwoman1234 Well, perhaps you should read what you write a bit more carefully. You are quite right that it takes a special kind of personality to manage a career in entertainment. And Amira is a very interesting study from that point of view. I suggest you do a bit more study before leaping to conclusions. As you can see from the video I sent you, she is very interested in her charity organisation, Gelukskinders - which she started when she was ten! But the video got it wrong; she has built 13 of them; and is giving a charity concert in Belgium in December to raise more money for it. May I suggest that you look up "Andre Rieu Movies Amira (historical) and scroll down to the "RTL late night interview", which is fully subtitled. That will give you a good idea of her personality as a nine year old; but also see this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYuzlaiwlq6XarM - she was eight, here. She drives herself very hard. Her parents split up in 2017, basically because her mother is ill, and wanted to get back to a climate that suited her; and Amira had a tremendous opportunity offered by Coleske Artists, which has allowed her to perform at the annual "Classics is Groot" concert (that's where the videos you see on YT mainly come from) so Amira and her brother have been living with with that for about five years now. You have only seen the glossy side of her life; but they are a fantastically bonded family. The children spend their mid-year school holidays in Europe, with their father. See the documentary kzbin.info/www/bejne/bGnPgqlrbNl1nJo
