Sandy, what you see here is Amira performing with a huge audience, backing singers, an orchestra and all the trimmings. The story of how this came about may interest you: Because her Mother comes from South Africa - Amira has half her family relations in the vicinity of Potchefstroom, a university town near Pretoria (the capital of SA). So the family visited SA from time to time, and in July 2016 she was a guest artist at the inaugural "Classics is Groot" concert, organised by the Coleske Artists (the Coleske brothers are themselves singers); she sang OMBC, and then the duet of O sole mio (Oh, my sunshine) - a popular Neapolitan song dating from the 1890's - with Patrizio Buanne - and later in the program, Nella Fantasia - and she participated in the finale "My Way". She "stole the show" and Coleske Artists invited her back in November 2016, for a series of 11 concerts in the "Afrikaans is Groot" series. In June 2017, she again was a guest artist at the CIG concerts (three in all) and performed "Nessun Dorma", the flower duet from the opera "Lakme", and Amazing Grace. Her recording contract with SONY after Holland's Got Talent had run out early in 2017, and Coleske Artists snapped her up, and produced her third album - for the recording of which, they took her to Prague. Her parents separated early in 2017, and Amira, her mother and her brother migrated to SA on January 1, 2018. (She flits back to Europe to spend her mid-year school holidays with her father). She performed again in 2018, at the new, larger (9000 seats) Sun Arena in Pretoria, at which she sang Gabriellas song, Halleleuja (a traditional SA arrangement, not the more common one) and a duet of "Amigos para Siempre" with Patrizio. In the 2019 concert, she performed a medly from "Sound of Music" - and we're still waiting for the DVD of that to come out. So she has been involved at what is really a professional level, in major productions of a type that seem to have little parallel elsewhere. All this whilst attending one of the top schools in SA (education is compulsory there). So she is now 15, and has her adult voice, but has accumulated an astonishing amount of professional experience for her age - she's a real trooper. Besides this, in late 2014, she formed a charity foundation, Gelukskinders, which is registered in The Netherlands, and has in the last couple of weeks opened her thirteenth playground for underprivileged African children. It is difficult to remember that she is still a child herself, when one considers what she has achieved already.

I agree Edwin - every opera aria or classical crossover song Amira has performed she has set a NEW standard for them - and literally OWNS the song for a number of them - if you consider Nessun Dorma - very few sopranos sing it and yet at age 13 and 14 Amira was setting the standard and routinely performing it - same with OMBC and then Your Love by Morricone - and what about Nella Fantasia?

Sandy, to put these "Classics is groot" concerts in perspective, in the 2017 concert, Amira's "Amazing Grace" came right after a performance of "Swan Lake" by the Johannesberg Ballet company; there were 31 items on the program. The gown she wore was one of three made explicitly for her, for this concert, by "Be Dazzled", a Pretoria company that specialises in ball gowns, wedding dresses, and so on, and makes all the costumes for all the performers at the Classics concerts. Amira wore it only for the three concerts (Friday night, Saturday afternoon and Saturday night). Amira was a guest artist in 2017; in 2018 she was a full member of the team.

@ You can purchase the Classics is Groot DVDs from Gelukskinders.org/store - I have all of them. They are formatted for region 2; I'm in Region 4, and the way I contend with that is by using a separate external DVD reader plugged into my computer, which I keep for these DVDs. They are very high quality recordings. If you watch them, you will have a much better perspective of what Amira is doing; she has jumped from being a talent show winner is 2013 to being a star performer in what are the premier annual events in the South African musical scene, starting in 2016; so she performs with a full orchestra and with a choir, to audiences three to four times the size of any Opera house. None of her contemporaries have managed such a step. The reason I am able to provide such information, is that I am a moderator on Amira's fans Facebook page.

Thank you (once again) for this reaction. To state some facts: Amira's mother is from South Africa, and her father is from Holland (a part of The Netherlands). She was born in Nijmegen in the Gelderland province of The Netherlands, and lived there until she emigrated to South Africa. Her native tongue is, of course, Dutch - which is related to the Afrikaans language in South Africa. She also learned English in school in Holland, and now (at 14 - she has just turned 15) speaks all three fluently. Her family visited South Africa frequently, from when she was seven, and she came to the attention of the Impresario, Mike Fuller, who in 2016 introduced her to Coleske Artists, who are based in Pretoria. The "Classics" concerts are organised by Coleske Artists, and she was invited as a guest (at 12 years of age) to the 2016 "Classics is Groot" concert (in July 2016, at the Moreleta Park auditorium, Pretoria, which seats 7000). She sang "O mio babbino caro" there (and got a standing ovation). When the ovation died down, she called Patrizio Buanne on stage, and they sang "O Sole Mio" as a duet (another standing ovation). Later in that concert, she sang "Nella Fantasia"; and participated in the final group performance of "My Way" . A week later, she appeared in Durban at the invitation of Patrizio, for the "Starlight Classics" concert there. She "stole the show" at CIG, and as a result Coleske Artists asked her back in November for a series of eleven "Afrikaans is Groot" concerts, at which she sang "Nella Fantasia" . Her parents had to arrange for a tutor from Holland in order to get permission from the Dutch school authorities for that. In 2017, her recording contract with SONY ran out, and she signed a fresh contract with Coleske Artists, and duly appeared in the 2017 Classics is Groot concert, again at Moreleta Park in Pretoria, at which she sang "Nessun Dorma" and the "Flower duet" from the Opera "Lakme", with Corlea Botha; and later in that concert she sang the "Amazing Grace" to which you have just reacted - her highest note in that is Eb6, by the way. She recorded her third album with Coleske Artists later in 2017, and introduced "cross-over" songs into that, partly to satisfy popular demand and partly because she needed to throttle back somewhat whilst her voice went through the adolescent change. She emigrated from Holland to South Africa on January 1, 2018, and now lives in Potchefstroom, a university town not far from Pretoria. She appeared at the Starlight Classics concert at Verelegen (near Cape Town) in February 2018; there are some remarkable (but cell 'phone quality) videos of her in rehearsal and performing there. At the "Classics" concert in 2018, (in a still larger auditorium) she sang three songs from her third album, one of which was the Swedish song "Gabriella's song" from the Swedish film "as it is in Heaven" (she sang in Swedish). All the performances mentioned above can be purchased as DVDs from Amira's charity foundation, Gelukskinders.org/store - however, they are formatted for Region 2, which can present some problems in other countries. All but one of them can be found on KZbin, because the copyright holders, Universal Music Group (UMG) have licenced them for advertising purposes.

Dafydd, would there be this kind of a comprehensive summary of Amira's recent work and last several years of her personal history and experiences, anywhere on the Facebook Fan page? If not, it would be so lovely to see such a write up, including even such details as you provided elsewhere, here, about the makers of her performance costumes, and so on. By now it seems that even a book could be published, just to document all of her amazing progress and accomplishments, so far, in her life. It is a great privilege to be allowed to watch, from the sidelines, and to see whatever one can see, from a distance.

@@timothyjohnson4176 Sorry to be slow responding, I hadn't looked through the comments on this video for a while. If you go to her FansGroup on Facebook, Alan Jones has collected an awesome compendium of facts about Amira, in the form of an illustrated monthly record. It's very condensed, but very precise. There's also a comprehensive record of photographs, and of videos (though the Kyknet documentary is no longer there, unfortunately). You will see that I've published a record of her training in various places on KZbin - that is from what I could find in the public domain; Alan's record goes a lot further. I put it up on the FansGroup and got some useful corrections. Dazelle Venter, who owns "BeDazelled" is a member of the fansGroup; she can be contacted by Facebook Messenger through the group. I found an interesting article titled: "How did the song "Amazing Grace" become associated with Scotland? Wasn`t it written by an Englishman"? "Because bagpipes. The hymn "Amazing Grace" was written by John Newton (1725-1807), an English former slave trader who converted to Christianity and become an ordained minister. But while Newton composed the words and set them to music, nobody knows what that music was. Newton published the song in a hymnal, which (as was the practice at the time) contained only the words but not the music. Some copies of Newton`s hymnal crossed the Atlantic, where his compositions were popular during the Christian revival known as the Great Awakening. An American Baptist named William Walker (1809-75) set Newton`s words for "Amazing Grace" to a tune that Walker had composed, "New Britain" (which in turn was derived from two folk songs). The hymn became immensely popular among American Christians, then entered the broader popular culture, and later found its way back to Britain. In the 1970;s, somebody found that "Amazing Grace," with its haunting tune, worked exceedingly well when played on bagpipes-and thus it came to be associated in many people`s minds with Scotland." If 1970 is true, its late date is surprise to me. The story behind of this song seems to be very fascinating, how it is evolved during history to this day.

Amira appeared as a guest singer on two successive nights in July 2014 with Andre Rieu for one song per night in Riau’s home town in the Netherlands. The connection between Amazing Grace & Scotland seems to be growing despite the composer being English. Example: Andre Rieu also joined the song & Scotland in his video of Amazing Grace. @ Yes, I understand. But they were released on Amira's charity foundation, Gelukskinders, in March 2018, and by Amazon, KZbin etc in May 2018. If you want a hard copy, you have to buy it from Gelukskinders.org/store ; otherwise it's available only by streaming.

You should react to her song "In The Stars" from her third CD "With All My Heart". It is on KZbin, and has been reacted to a number of times. Of all of her outstanding performances, it is my favorite. Please consider it! (I don't post the link because KZbin has been blocking comments with links recently.)

Sandy, here is a very recent TV interview with Amira, in South Africa. It is in English, and she sings three songs ( and catches the sound operator by surprise): kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZ7Ifplmr6pojZI and here is a video that shows Amira having fun, in the encore to her first public concert; here she and the accompanying tenor, are "hamming it up" in "the battle of the longest note" - it shows what remarkable breath control she had, even at 13: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ipaZfXp3hLmdms0

All right, now you have heard her, both with Andre Rieu and in this performance, I offer you a challenge (at your leisure!): Amira likes singing Operatic arias, as you have heard. Watch her performance of the Flower duet, with Corlea Botha, from the Opera "Lakme" by Delibes, from this same concert kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZyUnWtqirxkpqs It's in French - Amira sings in the original language wherever possible. There is also a somewhat later performance, www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=Amira+flower+duet+2018 in which she sings with Cecilia Rangwanasha, from the Cape Town Opera company. In this 2018 version, there is an attempt to make a more "operatic" presentation. The KZbin audience seems generally much less appreciative of her operatic performances, which is a pity, because they really show what a brilliant singer she is. For her non-operatic performances, see firstly her singing the Neapolitan popular song (from about 1890) "O sole mio" at 12, with Patrizio Buanne - they sing in the Neapolitian dialect of Italian; and in 2018, "Gabriella's song" - here, her lower register has strengthened considerably, and she sings in Swedish.

She is from the Netherlands but now lives in South Africa and has no Scottish connection.... for some reason this Hymn is always played with a Scottish theme to it ....However the hymn has no connection with Scotland either. Its possible that the tune which was written by an American composer may be where the connection is ..... he could have Scottish roots.... who knows
