I really agreed on what you said about artists "working hard" on their stuff, because a lot of times, I feel like that's used as almost like a guilt-tripping tactic. Like I say this as someone who writes poetry (and considers himself an "artist"); art is naturally hard work. Most artists are naturally hard workers. It's great that artists worked hard, but merely "working hard" doesn't mean someone is free from criticism. You can work harder than anyone and still produce a bad result, and vice versa. It's about working smarter, not harder. I was also really interested in the point about nostalgia not being a good reason to enjoy songs because that's something I've thought a lot about. When I was doing TEN YEARS LATER, that was a series inherently tied to nostalgia, and I know I had moments where I talked about my nostalgia with certain songs. That's why it was important for me to make sure I could explain my thoughts on songs with reasons beyond just "I liked it back then." Sorry for the block of text, you made a lot of good points in the video that I connected with lol

You hit it on the head with what you mentioned about how ppl say if the female rapper was another race ppl wouldn't be giving negative criticism. That's not entirely true because female rappers of other races get called out for being not so good either. For the most part ppl aren't going to care how the artist looks, if something is trash ppl will say so regardless of the race, gender, physical appearance, etc.

Idk if this is actually controversial, but I think both old school and new school should be treated with the same respect. I get that a lot of old school artists were hella influential back in the day, but a lot of the times, new artists are also inspired by other new artists as well. People like Chief Keef, Young Thug and Yung Lean should be treated as some of the most influential rappers of all time for how ahead of the time they were just like how some of the old school rappers are held in that regard.

I agree on the KZbin Music point, I’ve used Spotify and Apple Music in the past but went to KZbin Music and I love it. Has all the same features as the other ones like downloading, offline play, and playlists, but also if a song isn’t in their catalogue you can still find it if anybody uploaded it as a video on their channel. Can even change it to audio only to save data. Plus I get no ads on KZbin itself, and can listen in the background

One of the reasons why I use Apple Music as my main streaming service is because Apple put a feature in IOS called music share where you can listen to music with people on face-time and listen to music with your friends. About the fourth part. To me, having music exclusive to streaming services severely damages something else: their preservation by the fans. Because Spotify tracks can’t be downloaded by conventional means, people to collect the obscure tapes from artists (like what I do!) have no choice but to hope those songs aren’t taken down for whatever reason. If anything, it proves that, while streaming services are a luxury, they shouldn’t replace the conventional means of music distribution due to preservation issues.

@HipHopTheology2 жыл бұрын
On that last opinion I will say this, I think what the artists don't tend to articulate is this: its not so much that they don't want people to say that it's bad or disappointed but rather the manner in which people say it. For example, if someone calls your album trash and they have a very demeaning of patronizing manner in which they say it, that will hurt more than someone acknowledging that you work hard and then telling you why they didn't like it.. Now we understand that not everyone's going to be that considerate and understanding but I think it's understandable why they would feel that way when people express those type of negative takes.
@HipHopTheology2 жыл бұрын

Also another thing I have that is controversial that ties to number 3 is that modern hip hop Twitter slang is awful, with terms like "mid", "W", "d rider", "L+Ratio", "fell off", and so much more, kinda the reason why I dont use Twitter for hip hop cuz 9/10 you will have the same types of responses and barely gave any discussion, just got to any major rap page and looks at replies. Also about number 2, I feel like nostalgia could be with something like the hook or beat or verse that stuck with them tho yeah just saying a song is good just because of nostalgia is not a good way to enter an album for review, plus nostalgia bait is something people love to do, like just putting a random song from like 6-10 years ago and leave it there, tho there is more than just saying its good cuz nostalgia

If I Can Relate To What An Artist Is Saying Then I’m More Likely To Be Engage To The Song I Don’t Look For Bars , Metaphors Etc I Listen To Music To Get A Connection Music Is Some People Way To Escape A Song Can Still Have Metaphors, Rhymes , Bars, A Hard Beat and Everything Doesn’t Mean Everyone Is Going To Like It All Of It Just Personal Preference

Or you can screen record the KZbin videos and play in the car if you don't have cellular data. Or download. I tried to listen to an old school rapper in Spotify and they didn't have all the songs just a few.

I agree with you on the aspect of that black women are very sensitive when it comes to criticism, I think it’s because a lot of the times when women will go straight to “you don’t like her because she’s black.” For me it gives very….your insecurities are showing.

@@AmiriHipHop nah, I mean I’m not that big of a fan of female rap and a lot of the artists you mentioned I was like…who? When I said the insecurities is showing I meant from the perspective of black women who attack people for simply having criticisms

Opinions 3-5, aren't controversial at all to me. In fact, I thoroughly agreed on them. Cult fanbases wouldn’t even explain to y'all why they like this NBA youngboy song or this Carti song. They just straight out dicksuck. As for youtube music, you have quite the advantage cause there are a lotta leakers who leak some demos and some songs from rappers such as Drake, Future, and more. As for #5, rappers can't please everybody. They should be focusing more of themselves rather than focusing on someone's opinion especially when it's from twitter.
