I don't normally agree with that fella, but I do here. I joke with my Amish friends if they are putting up lights 😂 they put a card table up and say it's there tree lol they sit gifts on it. I've hauled them in the suburban to town to see Christmas lights, they love it. God bless

We actually had one young man my husband was driving for a couple of years ago who asked him to order gifts for his wife on Amazon. I personally see nothing wrong with gift giving...as long as we remember what we are celebrating and don't allow the season to overwhelm or burden us...I have learned to say no to some things as the years have gone by.

It was the Emperor Constantine, in the 4th Century, who first started celebrating the birth of Jesus on December 25th. He combined the ancient pagan festival of Saturnalia and the birth of Jesus into one celebration. Jesus was not born in December, and not on Dec. 25th. Jesus was born earlier in the Fall and presumably sometime during the Jewish Festival of Tabernacles, sometime during Sept.-Oct. This festival is when the children of Israel would look forward to the future and for their salvation. We need to remember that Jesus was born a Jew and was brought up as a Jewish boy, going to the local tabernacle to learn the Jewish history and traditions. It wasn't until after Jesus was crucified that he ushered in the new covenant of what we now call Christianity. The shepherds were still up in the hills tending their sheep when the news of the birth of Jesus was announced. By December, the hills are no place for sheep or shepherds, and snow has usually set in by then. In America, Christians did not use the Christmas tree and Santa Claus until sometime in the 1800's. They knew of the pagan connection to Dec. 25th. But shameless marketing soon took over and today by September, stores are putting out Christmas items and pushing the marketing full speed.

Thank you for the added details! It reminds us how we are sinners (thus the reason we keep slipping) and need Christ as our savior. i was just sharing with a friend the other day how our entire life and culture is nothing BUT marketing, and we like sheep keep falling for it. My 90 year old mother who lives with us just this morning was handing me a letter she got in the mail where they are offering $500.00 worth of groceries if you fill out the card and mail it in. I told her that was kind of her to offer it to me but they really want my email address...LOL - You have a Merry Christmas!
