do you also build with the squared timbers as well as round logs? I love the look of squared or like rail road ties logs...the walls are flat and can hang things much easier on the wall.

Curious as I’m going to be building a cabin around this size. But that center log that goes from the floor to the ridge beam what does that look like under the floor does that go right to a concrete block ?

There should be a gap or a space between the floorboards on the porch. Especially at the end of the house, where the roofline does not actually cover the porch completely. There's going to be a lot of standing water which will cause problems for the porch and the house.

What do they have around windows & doors for insulation? Are these logs smoothed or planned. Can you wipe them down with a cloth? Also are they going to put sealant on them? They do need a ceiling fan. It can get very hot upstairs in summer. And be warmer upstairs in the winter. Done

The windows and doors are sealed with an angle iron in a slot and trimmed inside and out so that they are tight. The logs are clean and sanded and varnished on the inside so yes they are smooth.

I was in Israel three times and I love the Jewish people. We find similarities in both cultures. Also I was able to speak in German dialect with the older Jewish people because Yiddish is similar to the Pennsylvania German that Amish speak. In fact guess what our word for “Jewish” is in Pennsylvania German- the word Jewish is translated as “Yiddish.”

Insects don’t bother it. If you put the borate treatment on the logs and the Timber Pro plant-based stain on the outside and the inside the insects leave it alone.

I just turned 91 on Thanksgiving which means tomorrow I'll be 92??anyway 66-67 years ago I cut a bunch of logs and had them shipped to my farm only problem is I forgot where the farm is or I would already have NICE log cabin built?! There is 5” of foam spray in the roof for an R 38 insulation. In the summer when it’s warm, the exterior will be stained to preserve the wood.

would you believe a custom log cabin of this size is no where near $200,000? more like $50,000 -$75,000. my late wifes' sister built one exactly like that one but with a loft that is used as a master bedroom and cost $69,000 and took her, her husband and eldest son about a month to erect.

Brent Arbogast everything I saw on the outside was pressure treated or western red cedar, I'm sure with the expense of Andersen windows the owner has made provisions for other aspects of the building.
