We said the same prayer before our meals when my children were growing up. Once, when the whole family was eating at a restaurant, my little grandson wanted to sing the doxology for the prayer, so we did! It made this grandma so happy! Xander and the puppy warmed my heart.

Xander is just so adorable. You can tell he has a sweet, gentle heart and soul. My heart melted when he stopped to pick up the puppy and hug it. Your dishes looked so yummy!

I loved hearing him saying they do quiet prayers at grandma's. As a little kid our Amish neighbors babysat us some. We always sang and prayed at mealtimes at home where as they only did quiet prayers. I was confused as a child as what to do when at their house, so I'd just run through the ABC's until I saw they were done....of course through peeking!

Wonderful video! I may try some of these recipes for my sick husband. We had to take him to the emergency room last Saturday due to severe confusion and weakness. We were hoping it was dehydration or even infection; but sadly it’s brain metastasis. His doctor failed him in many ways, but that’s a story for another day. He was rehydrated and given very few options. There were chemo options, but only with a 10-15% chance of improvement. 4 rounds of very difficult chemo and the cancer continued to grow and spread. In addition, he has over 20 lesions on the brain, which is what was causing his symptoms. I tried to tell the doctor weeks ago. They did 5 radiation treatments to reduce the swelling and inflammation to make him less confused and more comfortable. The headaches have been excruciating. There is nothing else to do except make him as comfortable and as safe as possible. His care will be home hospice, including our vacation. I plan to take lots of pictures and treasure every moment, good and bad. We are going on the family vacation that was planned. God has been working it all out perfectly. The owners of the rental have been amazing.

I am so impressed with Zander. He actually eats and likes pretty much whatever you make. He's such a joy! We taught our kids that prayer too. We also wanted them to learn the "Lords Prayer" so we switched to that for awhile. One Sunday our youngest must have been extra hungry so when we were ready to pray, he said, " let's do the short one."

the Mennonite Mom He's also the one when he was little and my husband's youngest sister told him she was going to have a baby, he said to her, "well what did do, swallow it." I have often wished I would have written down some of things the boys said and did when they were little. All 3 are now in their 40s.

Lol! Growing up my mom always bought margarine. My first babysitting job was for our neighbors who were Mennonite. They always had real butter. I remember thinking that it was so wonderful. Now I’m cheap but I absolutely will not buy margarine. Real butter for this girl.

I love seeing Mennonite’s share their culture online! I always wished I was Mennonite. My great-grandfather was Mennonite in Lancaster County, but left the community do to his religious beliefs. He passed before I was born, so I never got to hear his experience.

Those recipes look delicious. I don't cook much lately but My hubby would like those recipe's! Hope your flare up ends soon. You look good but seems you lost alot of weight. As a nurse I know what you are going though. Zander is such a great little man and saying his grace before meals melts my heart. You have struggles as we all do but you are Blessed. I am from the south and grew up near a community of Mennonites who we were very friendly with. They prepared and ate food very similar to ours. Meat, 1 green vegetable, 1 other colored vegetable, a bread, and either a potato dish or a rice dish or a pasta dish as a fuller for hungry bellies and big families. None of the 3, potatoes, rice, or pasta, would be served in the same meal. In summer when the fields and garden were producing lots of vegetable varieties the supper table commonly might not have a meat dish but would be packed with vegetables dishes and cornbread.

@@theMennoniteMom Yes, I recall on episode he was being a bit ornery and those weeds in his soul needed pulled. I recall you were I think cleaning the truck, and you had him to sit. T Hebrews 12:6,8 Proverbs 3:13 You do good mom. You two do a wonderful job growing Xander to being a Godly man. Keep sewing your seeds. It's that love not just gifts of trampolines, donkey, puppies, but the stewardship and sharing the responsibilities, like him setting the table. The laughs and giggles and correction, too that will empower him to choose. Prayers over him, that when the Lord calls his heart, he will choose to follow Jesus, no turning back.
