A English farmer allowed his main barn to be used as storage for straw by many local Amish in my county I was raised in, Ohio. The hay struck by lightning, destroyed the barn. The Amish shared the loss with the English farmer. A community came together. Many weeks of planning. On a day in the middle of planting season, the Amish gathered on one morning, arrived at the English farm, raised and roofed and completely finished a modern two level barn with amazing precision, manpower and a work song by the Amish leader as the Amish labored through the barn raising. The English kitchen was fully modified to accommodate several hundred workers for one day. English and Amish labored and restored their shared lives in one day.

It is truly a blessing to be called a friend of the Amish people. I live in Northern Michigan and I'm a driver for the Amish community here. I pick them up and take them shopping or transport some of the men to different work sites and I also perform escorts for the big storage buildings that are made at a place called Woodland Structures where they build some of the most durable and amazing barns you can buy and all without any source of electrical power. I had to be in the Hospital for a few days a couple years ago just when I had 6 cords of split firewood delivered. My oldest daughter called me in my room to tell me that 10 Amish Men showed up at my house at 630 AM and sorted and stacked all of the wood in my basement and refused any payment other then snacks and water. They finished in less then 3 hours. This is the way these wonderful people are all the time.

We had 3 Amish brothers, Michael, David and Alvin, from Lancaster County build our new 3 - Seasons Porch a few years ago. Every morning they'd arrive at 7am and work without talking or playing the radio. We sat and had a beautiful conversation with Michael S. when the project was finished. We asked about technology. He said different churches in the county had different "ordnung" about technology. If the Community felt it didn't interfere with family life (like cellphones or tv interfere with family cohesiveness) or with community life, then it was acceptable for that congregation. He also said the vast majority of Amish youth do not feel the need to go out on "Rumspringa", and that it was overly exaggerated on tv. Amazing workers and good people. Sally West Chester, PA.

As a volunteer driver I watch young men and women give hope to the poorest storm victims of the Lake Charles area. Such skill and perseverance. Each day began at 6AM with breakfast, worship, and beautiful singing. The Mennonite Disaster organization supplied the vehicles and equipment. Others supplied materials. The Methodist church provided housing. What a wonderful time we had learning about each other cultures. These young people were full of joy and energy. The girls worked at every job the boys did. I feel like this is an awesome way of showing what people can accomplish when united. One individual would think that their strength doesn't matter, so sit out a goal or problem while watching the world pass. But when combined, individuals do matter, and each of their strengths can contribute to a greater goal. It just takes everyone, as an individual, using as much possible strength.

The guys watching the sides and back are also essential, as the man up front cannot possibly see the edges of the barn. Would it have cast less than the big community gathering and feast that usually follows these all hands on efforts? Would using that wheel system contributed even a tenth the amount of community identity and surety for all those involved? Maybe we could learn a great deal from them. Likely you haven't noticed but Amish children aren't whacking out and killing their classmates in job lots either- but that is for another discussion. You don't appear to know much about the Amish- it would do you much good to repair that problem; it won't make you become Amish, but maybe it will lead you to think more deeply about who you are and why you think the way you do.
@lindad16124 жыл бұрын
@@irondiver292 frederic rike makes several good points. also, if the wheels were attached to the building, the uneven ground would have put too much strain on the joints. The size of the shed makes it impractical to put it on a flatbread with bracing (like for moving a house) or connected 'trucks' (like the wheels on a train car). Throughout the video, the men were able to immediately adjust the height of their grips as needed. No easily and inexpensively built wheeled carriage could do that.

Lots of little issues in the Amish community, they just don’t share it with everyone. Many ex-Amish have shared why they left - too much control. Some have said that when there is a pedophile for instance, they’re forced to not talk about it. Or worse, marry the guy. Everyone has their own issues….but at least the Amish have self-sufficiency at the end of the day!

@@basicallyno1722 yeah I'm not trying to say that the Amish are perfect, just that I think there is alot we could learn from them. I mean here in the normal world we don't just hide our pedophiles, we worship at their altars, watch their movies, and let them make our political decisions.

The Amish have been showing us for years what a community united can do when they work together, god has blessed them.

How many Jamals and Keishas are there in that mix? None. No kiki. No Rayquan. Only good salt of the earth people.

god has left them behind. His invisibleness is absolute.
