I grew up near Lancaster County Pa and remember this bread as a boy...also I remember telling the lady that made our communion bread that I liked hers better than my grandmas. So every communion she would bake me a loaf to take home after church with a wink and a "shhhh, don't tell grandma". Thanks, I will try this recipe :)

Mouth is salivating! Imaging a thick slice, with real butter. Yum Yum Have to pull out soft white wheel berries to grind the flour. The end result reflects your wife's gifted hands of love for her family and charity. Awesome...got to do a test run. My golden sweet apple trees have produced a heavy crop...even shared a few with birds. Made 25 lbs of dehydrate apple rings and 30 lbs of apple dices for long term storage. Next project is to use the juice of strained, pressed apples ( 3 apple varieties) to make apple cider!

The bread was absolutely wonderful! Thank u very much for sharing. U gave me some tips that I didn't know, and helped me make the perfect bread. They turned out beautiful! I used one cup of sugar and it taste amazing! This is my main white bread recipe now. I put my dough in the oven w/ the light on. I didn't turn on the oven only the light, and it was doubled in less than an hour. Maybe, this will help someone. I know this trick helped me when I found out. Thanks again eye candy!! lol ....you have a lovely wife. Great cook too, I see. If anyone is interested I froze 2 loafs to bake in a few days. U can freeze bread dough for up to four weeks, I believe. After the first rise I shaped my bread and placed them in a sprayed pan and put wrap on pan and froze them. After several hours I took them out of pans wrapped them and put in bread bags. u can use Ziploc. When needed I will let them thaw and double in size then, bake on 350 for 30 min. I've never tried this method but I was told it works.

Patty K I bake my bread 2 loaves at a time on the same rack in the middle of my regular-sized oven. Just be sure the pans have at least 2 or 3 pan-widths distance between them so the heat can circulate properly. Been doing this for years with bread and cake pans, never had a problem.

Yes, while the individual ingredients cost less than a mass produced loaf of bread, there is the other cost that can make homemade bread cost more to make, the amount of work a person has to put into it. For instance, I have made sourdough for a while now which 1) I had to make a starter for, 2) take care of that starter, and 3) have had to time my recipes. On the last part, upon combining the ingredients I have to let it sit for 4 hours then shift to a banneton for 12. and then proof for another 5. If a person wants to do this, they need to have those intervals open. So, yes and no for homemade bread costing less than store bought bread.

@mracicot
@mracicot 4 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. Some denominations use regular bread, others use unleavened... In my faith journey, I find the importance is in the *meaning* of the Meal, not the physical makeup of the specific elements. It is the same justification for using grape juice rather than wine. I mean no disrespect, and I am NOT saying anyone is wrong for their worship style. Go, worship, or not. 👌🛐

Used half the measurement. Got six huge buns and one loaf. Soft but has more substance than the fluffy airy bakery breads and buns we get here in Kerala, India. Everyone loved it. I used the kneading hook of my hand mixer for the first kneading. Thank you for the very clear instructions.

I have been considering making are own bread, after watching these 3 videos I can't see why i can't. I remember growing up and my mother baking bread. She would save some of the dough and make doughnuts for us. All the kids in the neighborhood would magically appear, they could smell the bread cooking and knew doughnuts weren't far behind. Thank you for the videos.

I have to tell you that after a struggle with my stored flour(long story) I finally got enough to make half of this recipe. Got all my ingredients laid out and then I realized I had instant yeast. I am new to bread making and didn't know whether this would work or not. I also didn't know if I needed to use the same procedure or not. So, all ingredients ready and time before dinner is running out, now what? Well, I had to search out the answers of course using utube! OK, now I'm ready... I got it all ready, dinner running late now...Hubby gets on the phone with Norton, says he's got enough time while the bread bakes...55 minutes later, he enters the kitchen to find me enjoying my home made stew and bread! It was very good, thank you for sharing. Oh, and the flour, well let's just say storing it in a jar after sucking the air out turns it basically into rocks, yikes

Have always felt super intimidated when it comes to anything bread, especially by hand . I was so proud of myself yesterday . Not only was it easy , it was absolutely hands down the best tasting bread I have ever eaten . This was a real valuable lesson to me , I can provide my family with great food with out a ton of chemicals. Never stop making your channel , you're inspiring . Wishing good things for you all with all that is going on at the homestead currently . Thank you again for sharing !

@Big Family Homestead I had to practice this recipe a few times before I started having more success. The first few times, I made some mistakes, but I didn't waste any of it; rather, I used the dough to make flat bread and biscuits. The last few times have turned out much better and I am now making the actual loaves. The texture and flavor are perfect, and this recipe is great for sandwich bread! I usually make half of the recipe for two loaves, but this morning I made the full four loaves, as I am donating them. Thank you for helping me to improve my breadmaking skills! Just before your channel popped up on my account, I was really wanting to find a way to make better bread. I still want to improve more, but I am really happy with the recipes that you are sharing. I also made the Italian Bread that you shared on another video and that was an amazing success! I wish that I knew how to post photos here in the comment section.

Another successful recipe. Thanks Christa. At first I was worried with all the sugar, but have to say it is a tasty bread. Perhaps not an everyday bread because the hips will not be happy with me....lol. Will certainly use this recipe again.

Christa, I made this bread recipe for the first time tonight and I am thrilled how good fresh hot buttered bread tastes! I have never made loaf bread before. I made 4 loaves and 3 are going in the freezer and I'll take them out as I need them. Thank you so much they turned out perfectly and tasted better than any store bought bread.
