***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 5 new videos every week! Tuesday through Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we transition from city dwellers to full time homesteaders!

hey Dennis, I am almost 60 and don't have anything baking at the moment... I wanna know how did your bread turn out ? Do you recommend the recipe? I live in Hawaii and worry the huditity may make it a mess, but I remember bread fresh from the oven as a kid at grandmas and I want my daughter to know the experience. Later today we are baking a welcome Springtime cake. I am using lemon curd between the layers and buttercream frosting on top and I think I will sprinkle with light pink and light green sugars just a tad. BTW, Happy birthday whenever that is. Does 70 feel much older than 60? I can't believe that I am that age...I remember going to a few Led Zepplin concerts, getting married, kids, death of sweetie and now I am old looking. But I still crank Zepplin and try new stuff all the time...I dion't think I am that old, somebody is counting too fast.

Hey, I tried this with 2 cups of flour and 1 cup of sour dough starter. No yeast (as the starter has yeast). I also added 1/2 cup cheddar cheese and 5 already pickled jalapeno slices. Had to let it set @4-5 hrs. Then baked as you said. OMG delicious. Thanks for such a versatile recipe. Mind you I've already made your original recipe many times and it's lovely.

We've had this recipe in the family for years, love it. I will knead it with some extra flour, roll it out, then really soft butter spread it out, brown sugar and cinnamon, nuts or raisins to taste and put in oven. Cinnamon raisin bread, slice and let cool slightly then spread with butter or we even light powdered sugar frosting for special occasions. I fixed this often with my teenagers friends going through the house after sports practices. Also used this dough, roll it out, put pepperoni, cheese for pizza rolls, AWESOME

Since early this year I've been back to baking my own fresh loaves and will say a loaf is sadly unlucky as it's gone within 24hrs and having to prep another the next day. Must add I have grown very fussy in which strong flour I use and was glad to come across 1.5kg bags of flour (bakewell) costing less than 50pence and that flour has given the best results in comparison to the bags of strong flour that are sold in 1kg and costing over a £1. Will add there are times when I knead and rest the dough more than twice where strong white flour is concerned but where wholemeal flour is involved I do give it 3 to 4 cycles before baking

I waited to post my sincere appreciation for this recipe until after I twice made the recipe because I wanted to be certain the first time wasn't a fluke. It was not. WOW! Has this been a game changer. Great bread in 3 hour + 30 min and no kneading! Who knew?! I have a mini cast iron dutch oven and so I was able to half the recipe to make what resembles the perfect "pugliese petite boule" that tasted just yum if not better and so much less expensive. I did the math and each loaf costs approximately .38 and that's using King Arthur bread flour. So unbelievably happy that I FINALLY have a bread recipe that I can count on and it's just four freaking ingredients! Amazing. Thank you!

Pro Tip: Use less parchment by cutting it shorter, so that the lid of the dutch oven can close more effectively. The moisture in the dough creates steam and cooks the bread giving it that beautiful shinyness outside as it cracks and stretches...but not as much if the lid isn't more air tight.

Dear LadyDewinter, I also had to learn cooking at a late age because i needed to eat healthy which meant making everything from scratch using ingredients that were fresh and not processed. I found blogs to be my best source in the beginning and there were so many out there. Good luck with your soup - i'd love to hear about it. You make me happy to read about your stew. today i am making a cannellini bean soup with dark greens - kale, chard, dandelion, spinach, bok choy and fresh tomatoes and herbs. the only food product in there is the organic vegetable broth from Pacific.

I started watching because of the bread recipe from the thumbnail; but, I have to comment on the hand milking. Your reasoning makes complete sense to me. I am a NICU nurse, and we have known that hand expression yields more milk from lactating mommies than the use of the electrical pumps. BTW, this city girl loves watching the life you’ve made for yourselves out there.🥰👍🏾

This is great! As a tip, if you're using table salt, use 1-1/2 tsp. You can let this dough sit in the bowl on the counter the first time up to 18 hours before going to the second rise. It takes on a more sourdough flavor so if you don't want that, don't do it. If you do let it rise for a longer period, you'll need to flatten the dough out more before folding it into a ball for the second rise or you'll have big holes in the middle. I hope this helps and I love, love, love this video! Good job and family!

I was so impressed by the look and sound of this bread I finally bought myself the Dutch oven I've been debating on whether I would really use enough to justify the buying of. What can I say, bought it last Saturday and used this recipe same night. We had a fantastic traditional style Scotch forthwith the bread it was anamazing combination. Our son dropped in unexpectedly on Sunday and much to my husband's dismay after tasting both asked if he could take what was then left ( very little) with him of course mum said yes. Back to Kevin's recipe for mum then. We were planning on having a farmhouse beef stew loaded with fresh beef ( we live in Scotland and when we say we cooked with Aberdeen Angus fresh beef we really mean fresh) and fresh picked root vegetables from garden . I would normally serve this with Australian cobbler pastry recipe ( similar to the American biscuits and savory Scottish pancakes but this totally wipes the floor of both above mentioned toppings for any gravy based dish). I had managed to make a second loaf without husband realising but this time had crowned loaf using multi grained seeds to give the stew a little bit of a extra bite as it were. IT WAS OUTSTANDING. I'VE BEEN MAKING MY OWN BREAD ETC TOO LONG TO BE WANTING TO ADMIT TO, AND HAVING GROWN UP ON A SPECIALTY SCOTTISH BEEF FARM THAT HAS PROVIDED THE BEEF ETC FOR BARMORAL FROM QUEEN VICTORIA TIMES TO PRESENT-DAY I KNOW MY BEEF AS IT WERE. It was another success so thank you Kevin thank you very much indeed. I often have a beef stew simmering when staff come to restock just before the family begin arriving for their traditional stay. This time I will also have some of Kevin's crusty bread on table to let the staff try it for themselves. I will most certainly be giving the credit for the bread to Kevin. Will update you on outcomes

This is the only bread recipe I've made for several years. We always have fresh bread on the shelf!! I have simplified it even further. I don't have a dutch oven that is easy to lift, like yours. I use 2 bread pans, one to put the dough in and the other to act as a "lid" upturned on the first one. Often I don't even preheat the pans. For flour, I"ll use a mix of whole wheat, all-purpose, bread flour, oatmeal, wheat bran, or whatever inspires me in the moment. Usually, I'll measure out 2 cups of flour then add some of one or a few of the other options. Sometimes the additional options are more than 1 cup, but as long as the dough is shaggy it works. I always mix it up just before going to bed, so it can rest/rise overnight. Forget the plastic wrap to cover ... just use a saucepan lid that fits the bowl. In the morning, stir a few times, dump into the bread pan and let rest, covered with the other bread pan, while the oven preheats. Bake. After 30 minutes, I push the upper pan off the lower, turn the oven off and come back in 15 minutes or so. Done. Our bread always is delicious, never the same as last time and disappears quickly. So if you're going to try this recipe, once you've got the hang of it, you can vary the ingredients. All white flour bread is good with herbs, or other things added to the dough at the second mixing. Yummmm.

That sounds yummy! Can you tell me if you brush the butter and seeds on it for the initial cook or in the last, uncovered few minutes? Do the seeds burn?
@ambrosejoseph4843
@ambrosejoseph4843 Жыл бұрын
@@pattytucker3199 Shoot, I haven't made it in awhile. I'm pretty sure it's for the initial cook because the steam keeps them from burning. Then when you take the cover off they get toasted just right. Good luck. I've never had burned seeds. I've got to find an oven. I live in Ecuador now and ovens in older homes are kinda rare.
