I learned this method from you and have used it. I found it helps to give it a start on the ends with a snip.

Worked like a charm. Had the line scored but didn’t know how I was going to keep hitting the same line over and over. Tried cutting with a shears but was getting nowhere & boogering up the metal. Found your demo, went back outside & folded it over! & presto! You really don’t have to score very hard. Awesome! Thanks!! Didn’t know what try next!!!

That is correct. Glad the video helped you out!

Don't tell anybody but I'm going to try this at home without hiring a professional.

Great videos I’ve done this using a pretty large drill bill. I think it was a bit meant for wood. It may have been meant for a bracing bit. I would recommend gloves.

The 'old score and snap it trick'. I didn't see this on Get Smart.

Great tip! How thick is the Steel you are cutting? I'm considering this method for 0,5mm sheets, 5 meters Long.
@MT_Homes4 жыл бұрын
29 gauge thick which I believe is 0.287 mm.

@@MT_Homes Ok, thanks. Any problems with corrosion on the new edge?
@MT_Homes4 жыл бұрын
No different than using shears or the factory end cut. Yes it’s a bare metal edge but have not had any rust or corrode.

get a length of 1/16" or 3/32" steel cable. tie aknot in one end and fashion a handle for the other end. cut a snip in each end of the sheet where you want to cut it.run the cable under the sheet and bring the knotted end up thru one slit and hook the knotin it. bring the end with the handle op the opposite end slit and out the top . stand on the sheet and pull the cable, ripping the sheet into. clean and fast.

i have done this for years with .4mm corrugate which is much thicker than your metal...however i have to score it 10 oer 20 times often snapping a new blade
@mit13464 жыл бұрын
Can you do this with heavier gauge corrugated sheets?
@MT_Homes4 жыл бұрын
It depends on how hard the steel is. I would try it on a scrap piece and see what it does.
@royvarndell8834 жыл бұрын
you can do it to 26 and 24 gauge jst score it more to get the cut deep enough. but if you have shears by the time you score it you could have it cut.plus you wont have to take it to the grass
@MT_Homes4 жыл бұрын
My main problem with shears is they tend to leave a wavy edge. I know the cuts are hidden most of the time but if it’s in a J channel, you still see it.
@GETTY-gr7gf2 жыл бұрын
It might be easier with a large awl type device.

What's the gauge of that metal?
@MT_Homes2 жыл бұрын
29 gauge

How is it for “entertainment” purpose when it works so well?🤷🏻♂️
@susanhenderson23224 жыл бұрын
Tried this, big fail, you must be using very thin metal, after several deep scribes ours would not bend at all. Had to use grinder.
@MT_Homes4 жыл бұрын
I’m using standard 29 gauge metal. I use a very sharp blade and a LOT of pressure. Enough to see shavings curl off of the blade. Don’t get discouraged on the first try. Took me many tries to master it.

You should wear gloves. Look at all the metal shards you're creating by not slicing along in a straight line.

Not impressed. If this guy is such a master metal cutting guru, then why didn't he show off his skill by carving out a Halloween jackolantern face from the sheetmetal. Back to the drawing-board for you, Skippy slice-a-lot.
@MT_Homes3 жыл бұрын
Glad you brought that up. I was just about to make a video on how to do that.
