Thanks for posting. Very helpful. One question for anybody: Aren't the porch posts relying on the sheer strength of a couple of screws to support the porch roof? Is that enough or should the posts be supported by blocks or cemented into the ground? Thanks.

Awesome job. I like your videos very informative. I glad I found them. I hope to build a shed soon and you refreshed all the things I need to think about. One thing though, please stop standing on the top of those ladders! I see you have many sizes so please use the right one for each situation. A friend cause major brain injury because the ladder went out from under him. We need you safe to make more videos and your sweetheart needs a intact man around. Oh by the way. I liked the music. :-)

Hi... Great job on your shed. Question: Does the 12x24 dimension include the little porch or is that additional? Just checking to see how it would impact your materials list. Thanks again, and really looks great. We are going to build.
@MT_Homes4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The 12x24 includes the porch. So basically 12x21 plus a 3’ porch.
@dwaynerobare11534 жыл бұрын
@@MT_Homes Oh okay... so I would need to adjust materials without the porch... Also, if you would, which company did you order your metal from? Thanks again!
@MT_Homes4 жыл бұрын
Not sure if you saw my reply on your other comment but I would look for a metal supplier in your area. Most are locally owned. Basically a company that buys the metal in large rolls of flat coil and runs it through a machine to make custom length ribbed sheets and trim like I used.

Why do you use sometimes screws and sometimes nails?
@MT_Homes4 жыл бұрын
I mostly used screws in the treated flooring framework. Makes for a solid floor.

I noticed you used screws when building the floor, but used nails when building the walls. Is there an advantage of one over the other? When is it best to use either screws or nails?
@MT_Homes4 жыл бұрын
Screws are always better, but more expensive and time consuming. I always use screws in treated wood which is what the flooring structure is made of. Makes for a more solid floor and won’t rust like regular nails will. A cheaper option would’ve been to use galvanized nails of course.
@CraigSmith5684 жыл бұрын
@@MT_Homes Thanks for the reply. I like screws too and I don't mind paying the extra money for them. Still planning on a building, but I have a tendency to over analyze things. At a certain point I need to just do it.

What about hot dipped galvanized ring shank nails? I've got a 1,000 pack for my framing nailer and would like to use what I have on hand if possible. Think they will be sufficient?
@MT_Homes2 жыл бұрын
Yes. They would be sufficient. Being ringshanked and galvanized, that would be the next best thing to using deck screws.

What’s the purpose of using purlins on the wall? I’ve only seen them used in roofing structures.
@MT_Homes4 жыл бұрын
Metal is designed to be fastened to something perpendicular to the ribs. Since the ribs and the studs are both upright I needed Purlin cross members to fasten the metal to. 1/2” OSB would work as well.

when ever you set a board or wall ,to be "straight" you only worked on one end and worked your way down ,why....??

It’s much easier to pull a board to straight line because I have more leverage than i would if I nailed the ends first, then pulled the center to the line.
