never been married.....and I'm 55. Engaged once. I was 20 and she was 19. Unfortunately, God decided He needed her with Him more than I did. Spent the next 20 years trying to replace her when I finally realized I couldn't. Finally in a relationship again and we'll see how it ends up.

If you wait until you're married to change your terrible ways....no. Just no. Children, if you have ANY doubts about the marriage, please bring them up BEFORE the planning starts. Wishful thinking won't save a marriage thats doomed before it starts. Just ask my parents.

My wife's brother was getting married. Months before the wedding, the bride threw a massive tantrum that my wife had gotten pregnant and was going to have our first child around the same time as the wedding (it ended up being the same day, we made it to the wedding but missed the reception). Threw a second tantrum because everyone at the reception kept asking where my wife was. Threw a third tantrum because one guest "wore white" (it was a dark beige, not even close). On the way to the hospital, my wife had said she felt bad that we were missing the reception. I told her not to worry, we'd be going to her brother's second wedding soon enough. Less than three years later, we were doing just that.

We couldn't go any later for health and safety reasons. Oh, and I'd forgotten, but my wife reminded me: if our son had been born when originally intended, he was specifically NOT invited to the wedding. So my wife would've had to stay home anyway.

Not *at* the wedding; my wife and I actually predicted it *before* the wedding. A guy I knew at work got married. A couple of weeks after the wedding he went overseas for four months, unaccompanied, on a work deployment with dozens of other unaccompanied employees - male and female. Everyone at work knew the people on the deployment were at it like rabbits. We were surprised the marriage lasted long enough for them to have two kids. Not a plot twist: this was his third marriage, and he'd also been engaged between his first and second marriages. He was unfaithful in all three marriages and in the broken engagement, and left his first wife about a month after their only child was born. Fairly sure his third wife knew all this, and still married him and let him go overseas. He's now married for a fourth time, and fathered a kid with her too...

Not even at the wedding - while my soon to be husband and I were registering for gifts another couple were also there registering. They argued about everything - silverware, glasses, china, etc. And not the whispered hissing at each other argument. Full on screaming we could hear across the store. Hubs and I rolled our eyes knowing if they couldn’t agree on a place setting, how would they survive a real disagreement. Thankfully hubs and I are about to celebrate 20 years. Second story, 19 year old receptionist at the law firm I worked at was about to marry the 18 year old boy she was dating for less than 6 months. I asked her if she was sure they shouldn’t have a longer engagement, 3 months out. Her response, “Nah. If it doesn’t work I’ll just get a divorce.” They didn’t last a year.

My BIL had been a confirmed bachelor. Professed his whole life, he was never getting married. Reached his 40's, and his mid life crisis was a wife. The wedding was expensive and lavish, because she and her father were music directors and teachers in the area, so everyone knew them. My spouse, MIL and I drove straight through to the wedding. We were the only people there for the groom; he might have had a couple of local friends there. We were in the Bride's home, with all of her family [4-5 siblings] and her siblings kept teasing about Her Control Issues. They were relentless! BIL swore they would not divorce; this was for life! He lasted 7 years.

I really love weddings. My church has never had a dramatic wedding like this. Couples choose to have a lot of counseling from their elders before getting married. This helps ensure they are right for eachother and are marrying for the right reasons. Couples also work with wedding planners in our church who have the process streamlined and simple with the result being consistently amazing wedding days. Schedules are carefully planned. The whole church pitches in on decor, food, the ceremony itself. Most weddings have over 400 people in attendance, and if you couldn’t invite someone, don’t worry. You’ll see them at the wedding anyway because they’ll be helping serve food or run the celebration. I’ve gotten to be a groomsman for two of my pals so far. I get up at 4 am to cook an amazing breakfast for everybody and we all eat and pray for the ceremony and change into our tuxes. No drama, just excitement. We start the ceremony promptly every time. No delays! We don’t serve alcohol so no one is behaving wildly. We do serve the best iced coffee though.

Oh boy I have one. My mother had a classic princess themed wedding for her first marriage. Went all out with a ball gown, puffy sleeves, tiara, train, and lace. The groom's family made fun of her dress and refused to speak a word to her when she went table to table to greet guests. They drank themselves drunk before my mother decided to have them removed. Groom defended his family until the end. My mother said the marriage ended due to the groom's continual infidelity, and for keeping his imbred family history a secret. Like, first cousins and brothers/sisters type of imbred... My mom and him actually end up having a kid together (my oldest sister) before she found out, but my oldest sister has not been in touch since I was 18. So 5 years, give or take.

I haven't spoken to her in a long time, narcissistic parent sucks. Note I'm not mad because he's disabled, I'm mad because she is so self loathing that she turned down several successful men for arbitrary things to go after a guy who literally had nothing else and couldn't run away from her. I actually took care of my father, not her, and it sucks to lose the house when I have kids. I know she can't/won't ACTUALLY take care of a disabled guy, will only date disabled guys, and he is using her to get out of assisted care/crappy living. It's just a messed up relationship and I lost my mom and my dad. :(

At first, I was happy for them... But then, I noticed that this " friend of mine" was spending less and less time with his girlfriend and more with me, even trying to secretly involve me more and more in his wedding preparation. Soon after, when I said I wanted to meet his fiancée because she seemed like a sweet girl and it was weird he never introduced us, he would always found an excuse like "she is too tired because of the baby" or "she is visiting her family for some times". Soon after, out of nowhere during the night, he texted me, confessing I was the only girl for him, that he loved and needed me most in his life. And then he had the audacity to add he wanted me in secret to live closer to his new house (paid by his parents and the parents of his fiancée) and still wanted to enter in a serious relationship with me. Disgusted, I reminded him we never were anything more than friends and yelled at him, how it was disgusting treating his fiancée and mother of his future kid like that. Finally, for the greater good, I told him we couldn't be friends anymore. He had looked heartbroken but we never saw or talked to each other since then. Seriously, I feel so sad for that poor young woman who is now his wife. I really hope he woke up and their marriage will last, for the sake of his new family...

Acquaintance of mine married a man of a different religion and to the shock of no one, the wedding was a disaster. They decided to marry after less than 6 months total of knowing eachother, on NEW YEARS DAY. My husband and I were hung over from New Years celebrations but managed to make it. You could tell neither of the families wanted to be there and there wasn't enough food. They got pregnant immediately and were divorced within 2 years. Not sure if there's a moral to this story but please be sure you know someone for longer than a few months before you marry them.

The two religions thing can totally work, though it takes careful, sensitive planning and negotiation. Getting married six months in is pretty darn risky, though. My late husband and I were together ten years before we finally married. That might be a little on the long side, but it worked out well for us.

You know the complaints some people make about how the "institution of marriage" is being weakened or destroyed, and blame gay people, millennials, secularism, etc? If anyone has ruined the institution of marriage, it's married people. Out of all the people in my life who are or have been married, everyone has had a shit marriage (often multiple) except my parents.

Apart, they are both the sweetest and kindest people you could know. Together, and the violence toward each other knew no bounds. Growing up, I never doubted that that one would eventually go too far. And yes, she gave as got as she got, often instigating the violence. Their divorce and separation was a blessing .

After the “I Do’s” of my first wedding on our way to sign our marriage certificate, I heard a voice SCREAMING in my head, “RUN, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE AND DONT LOOK BACK”. I should have listened to my normally still small voice. Less than 5 years later if Sex were fast food, she would have had Golden Arches over her bed… Over 45 million served ! During her last pregnancy there was only a 25% chance that the baby was mine. The first 2 years after our divorce she had gotten married 3 more times and divorced 3 more times. She had Rounded Heals… every time a man walked up to her she fell on her back. She had a mattress strapped to her back. The last guy she was having sex with during our marriage was her married pastor. She’s a Math teacher who lives in southern WA state. I’m sure if I gave her name then most of southern WA would know who she is…

The bride, whom most of us had never met barely spent any time with the groom apart from the meals, cutting the cake and obligatory photos, can’t even remember there being a first dance. She spent the rest of the time with her friends and family. Most of the family had not met her previously, they never attended family functions nor was there any interaction at the function. The closest we were able to her was during the rushed picture taking. They leave for the Honeymoon, huge overseas trip where the Groom spends thousands buying the brand name handbags and shoes she wanted. Within a week of returning she was gone, taking all of his possessions with her, that’s when we find out she had done it all before and that her ex husband had warned the groom when they started dating but he was too lovestruck. Karma did catch up to her for another reason, the groom was told that not long after she was sacked from her job at a bank and paraded out wearing shiny handcuffs by the police.

The groom to be said the wrong name at the alter during the wedding! He said his ex's name (who he was still close friends with) after she showed up unexpectedly at the wedding in London. The bride to be was not impressed! After minimal contact and numerous apologies, the bride gave him an ultimatum to end it or never see his ex again, which he accepted. She became very controlling and after he went to hang out with his friends again (including the ex) his new wife called him, only to find this out and end the relationship with a divorce. The groom's 2nd of 3 😏🦕

I remember a story a pal of mine told me. Whether or not it’s true, I don’t know. Bride was getting hitched to a rather conservative, rather prudish fellow. He was kind, but just so nervous. The bride suggested that, for the bachelor’s and bachelorette’s parties, they have a “one last night of fun” with anyone they found. They trusted each other, and she wanted him to have fun, and not feel constrained because of her. The parties were set up, they went out. The two ended up in the same bar, which they found so funny. They actually found an explorative couple that they hooked up with for the night. The couple’s still together.

Sad sure but it's a cautionary tale, when a person is swept up in the whirlwind of love they have to stop and ask themselves, "okay I'm madly in love with this person but do they feel the same way about me"? A lot of heartache can be avoided if people ask themselves that basic question.

My brother's wedding was... interesting. Where do I start? Maybe with the wedding photographer. She was a distant friend of my ex-SIL's older sister who somehow heard about the wedding and asked to be the photographer as she wanted to start a new career as a wedding photographer and needed to build up a portfolio. So far so good. As she was a distant friend she knew a little about my SIL's family, and knew that they had one cousin on their dad's side whom we can call Cousin. She knew that Cousin and ex-SIL were close, but Cousin wasn't attending the wedding. So the photographer walked up to his parents and made a "joke". - I've noticed tha't Cousin isnt here. I thought he would rather be dead than miss the wedding, har har. The answer she got from the uncle was... well, not what she had expected. - Yes, his funeral was yesterday. Cousin and his friends had been on their way home from a music festival when they blew a tire. They stepped out of their car to shift the tire when they were mowed down by a semi and all four were killed instantly. The wedding photographer didn't interact with anyone after that and took about 200 pictures of the wedding cake instead. My ex-SIL abandoned the wedding reception a couple of hours in to party with her besties. They had been sitting in a corner refusing to interact with anyone else. Anyone who attempted to speak to them were insulted and told to eff off. Charming ladies. My brother's best friend refused to attend the wedding because "the bride was too ugly". I guess he has his eyes closed when doing the dirty then, as he began banging her on the honeymoon. And yes, the cheating was the primary reason for the divorce, during which my dear ex-SIL also abused their kittens. My brother's only condition during the divorce was that he got sole custody of the kittens due to her abuse, and they are now almost 14 year old extremely spoiled senior gentlemen. Oh, and my darling Mom told me during the wedding reception (where I had been placed in a corner far away from anyone in the wedding party of that I knew) that there was only place for four people in the family and as my brother now was married it would be best if I never called or visited again. That was my highlight of the day.

My older brother's wedding. From the moment I arrived, even the casual pre-wedding chatter felt like everyone was just going through the motions (already not a good sign). Then, in the middle of the ceremony, the officiant clumsily inserted a speech about fixing a broken-down motorcycle as a long and awkward simile for dealing with relationship problems; he was quite clearly reciting half-remembered lines supplied by someone else, and at one point had to ask the room whether it was better to repair or replace a specific part. The marriage lasted longer than I thought it would, but still less than three years.

The stupidly effed part in all this I ended up raising my little cousin more than both the parents did and he turned out be a really good kid. After he graduated high school he worked on getting his IT certifications and works as a Linux administrator for our local ISP. I swear this is an absolutely true story. This was my first marriage. After living together for 6 months, we were so excited about getting married and her well off mother was paying for the BIG event. Come the day of the wedding, we were standing at the alter, taking our vows. "I now pronounce you man and wife". I kissed her and something unseen forced me to run out the side door and I cried bitter tears without a clue as to why. One of my mother's friends followed me out and asked why I was crying? I D-O-N-'T K-N-O-W!!! 5 years and 3 boyfriends later, I got custody of my 2 sons in the divorce and I didn't shed a single tear in all of those 5 years. One of which, I found out 4 years later through a simple blood test, that the oldest wasn't mine. Ex and I have A+ blood. He has O--. I was too attached to him, by then, to let him go back to his mother so I never mentioned it to him or her. I guess I paid the tears in advance. On a lighter note, 4 years after the divorce, I started dating a girl at the end of August of that year. She moved in, in October and we were married at the end of November. Our first child was born 3 years later so it wasn't a shotgun wedding. Think I'm stupid? Short version, I've known her since she was born. She was 20 and I was 34. Stupid yet? Nah, on the 22nd of this month, we'll be married 35 years and she hasn't given me a moment's pause in all that time. I'm a happy hubby for sure. My ex took her first boyfriend 6 months after the wedding and I was looking over my shoulder for the next 4.5 years. FU(K YOU, Brenda!!!
