I grew up in Toms River and watched some of the filming at the house. It was a pretty big deal at the time. I remember we tried to get on as extras. The house does look like it was not just turned but moved over. It was more where that new house next to it is. The front of the house used to face Water St right where it curves into Dock St. The sides of the house faced the Toms River and Brooks Rd. The quick scene with James Brolin riding his motorcycle was filmed nearby on Washington St near the golf course. Also the Thomas Mathis bridge connecting Toms River to Seaside Heights is also featured in it (though in reality the van Margot Kidder is driving to rush back to the house goes in the opposite direction of the house). The bar "Witches Brew" was down on Water Street across from the Toms River Fire Co. 2. The scene where the car crashes when the hood flies up was filmed on Hooper and Oak Ave. Also Community Medical Center was briefly seen as well. I actually saw The Amityville Horror when it was released at the Dover Theater in Toms River (now sadly demolished). It was the second or third R rated movie I saw. I remember a lot of murmuring and laughter in the audience as familiar Toms River sites showed up on screen.

Back in 2004 on the History Channel, I watched a one hour show about the murders and it featured the first buyers that moved into the house after the murders. It was a couple and it had been known for years that they had experienced demonic events at the house, which is why they moved out. The wife admitted within the first 15 minutes of the show that she suspected the events occurred because she and her husband were in to transcedental meditation. This stuff was very popular during this era of the 1960s boomer-hippies, but it is very dangerous to be involved in this stuff. After they moved out, no future owner of this house had experienced such events. Typically, a person has to be the one to open the door for such things to happen, and meditation is one type of doorway.

My family is buried in the same cemetery as the DeFeo’s. Last time I went to visit my grandparents, I took a quick detour to their section on the way out. Of course there was someone visiting their loved one at the grave adjacent to the DeFeo’s so we were just awkwardly standing across from each other. So i paid my respects and left very quickly 😅 You should come on down to Long Island for the real deal! 😂

@@Sunshine444x the whole town of Amityville hates being famous for that. They would never allow any type of filming there.
