I was prescribed this drug. Unfortunately with it came every side effect listed in the pamphlet. I really thought that I was on the downward spiral. I have never felt in such pain. I stopped taking it when I checked the side effects and it took almost a week before I felt in good health again. I have since been prescribed a different medication with no side effects. Always read the enclosed pamphlet if you feel you are having side effects, in fact read it before you start treatment.

My number is consistently 115/70. I’ve had my upper number as high as 195. This medication is a godsend for me. @@youngnurse9994 , I'm glad that you have your blood pressure under control. Also, I am happy to hear that you're watching your sodium intake. I'm sure that your heart rate was three digit as well. I know why my blood pressure was dangerously high back in October 2020. When I went to the doctor on November 09th, the young lady check it three times to make sure she was correct. I also told her please don't take another reading because it was making it worse. Everytime she blew up the cuff it was squeezing the hell out of my arm. When I walked into the exam room to check my vitals, I told her that my blood pressure was to the roof. After she was done with taking my vitals I told her once I explained everything to her that she was going to understand. My daughter and her husband was blessed with the birth of their first baby boy. He was also my first grandson. Due to the pandemic shutdown. My son and his family and myself couldn't be out there when he was born. We just patiently waiting until Thanksgiving. Thursday night on October 08th around 9:15 pm my son called and said that the baby was rushed to the hospital because he was found unresponsive. And he was on a ventilator. ( Long pause ) my son made all of the arrangements to get to Kansas City Kansas ASAP. He died on Sunday October 12th @ 9:55 p.m. After I return home and still reeling from losing my grandson. Thursday October 29th before day break the storm caused damages to my house. Two trees landed on the edges of the roof, power outage and debris. The hurricane just devasted this southern region. Power companies as far away as Canada, Wisconsin and North Carolina. Therefore because of all of that is why my blood pressure was dangerously high. I'm still having problems with the grieving process. He was only three months old and I never got a chance to hold him. I have to be strong for my daughter. Day by day is what I have to do now.

I tried alternative ways of reducing my blood pressure, drinking beet juice and listening to calming music etc. All without success. Strangely, my low readings often follow work in the garden. I put my feet up for a while after midday lunch, and again after evening meal, and that helps reduce swollen ankles, and yoga breathing exercises help reduce general stress as well as apparent better BP readings. 5mg Amlodopine does the trick for me although readings do fluctuate, and occasionally cause nausea which soon goes away if I turn my attention to something else.

I've been taking amlodipine for about two years and while it works well to bring down my blood pressure the side effect that I experienced was that it reduced my blood pressure to the degree that when I went to bed unless my arms were held straight out my hands would fall asleep. For two whole years I never got a good night sleep because when my hands fell asleep it would wake me up as much as ten times a night. Before I would totally wake up I would toss and turn a great deal which in turn aggravated my lower back. It took me two years to figure out that the amlodipine had reduced my blood pressure to the degree that my hands would fall asleep multiple times each night. To verify this I quit taking the amlodipine and after about two days I was back to being able to sleep through the night. Now that I can sleep through the night I have the energy to get through the day without feeling like a zombie and repeatedly passing out due to exhaustion while sitting. I've also had problems with dizziness due to blood pressure medications so now I'm going to try to address the problem with a better diet and more exercise.
@Holler10372 жыл бұрын
@ Jack Kiety your comments look like I was writing them. The same thing happened to me. I was taking hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg doing the day and 10mg Amlodipine at night. The Doctor just took me off htz. Because I have lost 23 pds. And they are monitoring me on the Amlodipine. I was doing fine until I started losing weight. I had been taking it for 2 years. Now I feel like a zombie. The key is getting the weight off and exercising. I cut refined sugar. This BP medicine is a killer. I measure my salt and no processed foods.

"You may have asked why you should care that your blood pressure is high. ... Then I have to convince them to take a pill for the rest of their life to treat it." That was me for a long time. Then I picked up a new client who mentioned that he tended to get tired easily due to poor kidney function, and expressed a fear that he'd need dialysis someday. But what did it for me was when he followed that up by volunteering that the reason he was in that situation was because he had neglected to do anything about his high blood pressure when he was younger; that had led to kidney disease. As it happens, I had a friend in high school who suffered from kidney disease, which caused him numerous medical problems when he was in his teens, and he died of it a few years after graduating high school. I've been very much afraid of developing kidney disease ever since, so I was on the phone with my doctor the very next day, made an appointment to see him and promptly began treatment to get my BP under control. Thank you so much for this video.

@margaretsandeman17664 жыл бұрын
I've tried this twice and each time it caused a painful flare up of my Crohns's disease. I had to take steroids to deal with it. It wasn't a quick fix either. I wouldn't take Amlodopine again if you paid me.
It’s been a great prescription so far for my fiancée

One of the side effects of Amlodipine that the Doctor DID NOT mention is loss of teeth, especially the lower front teeth. How do I know this? Because my Dentist confirmed that taking CALCIUM BLOCKERS robs the bones in the jaw of the calcium that is needed to maintain healthy teeth. I lost three teeth on my lower jaw within about two months of starting Amlodipine. Also, I'm not sure if this is a result of taking Amlodipine but I'm having a problem with my upper front teeth losing their enamel and flaking off. I should add that at the time of this writing I am 73 years old, almost 74.

OMG! This happened to me and I didn't know why. My lower front teeth have just disintegrated. I'm on 10mg of amlodipine. I had not changed my dental hygiene routine.
@pfzinnc Жыл бұрын
@@txdave2 You will also find that the lower jaw (in the front) has deteriorated to a point that you cannot have dental implants because thee is not enough bone left to attach the implant studs. Also, dentures are a real pain the ass as most dentists don't know how to poroperly fit them to your mouth.

Amlodipine is great for bringing down my blood pressure, but it swells different areas of my body
Been through lisinopril (caused a dry cough and did not lower the bp) and losartan (worked at first , but then shot the bp to the danger zone) and amlodipine (seemed to be working - changed out without warning to losartan by a PA). Was put back on amlodipine and , while it does seem to be working , is causing my feet to swell and breast enlargement. Neither issue seems to bother the doctor. I went from easily fitting into a size 12 show to being cramped in a size 13. larger shoes are pricey.

Just been prescribed Amlodipine 5mg, as my blood pressure was 179/89 I have already noticed a difference within a week, which is great and zero side effects. My only question is as I also have high cholesterol I have been taking 800mg x 3 times daily of Plant Sterols and this seems to be raising my blood pressure again.

It caused my ankles and feet to swell so much I couldn't wear shoes. I couldn't walk 50 feet without stopping to catch my breath. My BP dropped too low and I spent most of my days in bed. It was not a good way to live. Needless to say, I went off of it after two weeks too long. Now I put it on my allergy list so It will not be prescribed by mistake. I am now on a medication that works perfectly for me with no side effects.

If amlodipine is a "calcium channel blocker" will it cause calcification too, meaning of arteries that would accelerate or cause Alzheimer's like conditions in elderly? I am 67 and was just started ton amlodipine by me MD because the lisinopril 20mg with Hydrochlorothyozide 12.5mg he prescribed a few months ago. According to the hospital I was in overnight for dehydration I was over medicated and they stopped both lisinopril and the HCT and instead prescribed Metoprolol 25mg. My MD, since my blood pressure (I decided on my own to take bp readings and found my bp increasing too high.) was increasing he prescribed the amlodipine. I feel kind of like being switched around and left in a kind of haze about it all.

My experience ith Amlodipine can only be described as a total disaster. To begin with, I was prescribed Coversyl. The initial dose didn't do anything for my elevated blood pressure so my GP kept increasing the dose. My blood pressure increased in tandem. When it reached 185/95 my GP added Amlodipine. After just 2 days of taking the duo, I began to feel strangely wired. On the third night, I developed palpitations which lasted the entire night and into the next day. I didn't take my morning dose, of course, and went to see my GP. My blood pressure was over 200 and my heart rate so fast that in my GP's own words, my heart wouldn't be efficient. He prescribed Betaloc which I decided not to take and let my body regain its balance naturally, as the palpitations subsided towards end of day. My feet and ankles began swelling after this incident. Sometimes they felt a bit painful. This continued for months after I stopped the treatment. I didn't have my BP checked as I definitely felt much better than when on Coversyl. After months of no meds, I went to see a GP at the nearest clinic for flu shot. He decided to check my BP too and he didn't like what he saw. He put me on Telmisartan and 50mg of Betaloc divided into am and pm dose starting now. It was over 6 months ago. My BP has now been perfect. It took months for the on again off again swelling in my feet and ankles to go away for good. They are finally back to their normal skinny self. Zero side effects too. So, no. I am not going near the Amlodipin ever again. I am lucky it didn't give a coronary and killed me.

That's the problem with a lot of doctors nowadays the drug companies tell them that this is the drug to perscribe and that is what the patient gets whether it kills you or not. They are so programmed by big pharma that they push whatever they are told to.

I need to make a correction at the end. I use to take my pill at 9;00 in the Evening and I switched it to three. I would really be sleep if I took it that way. Sorry for the blunder.

I got a question I am 68 the only medicine I ever take is amlodipine in my life and I started a 9 months ago after mi first visit to a doctor in 15 years. Mi blood pressure was 140 over 75 and he puts me on amlodipine 5 mg so here is mi question . Do you think is fair to put a healthy patient on medicine because one visit to the doctor one time his blood pressure is high during the visit and what are the reasons for hig blood pressure??

I took 25mg. one time about a year ago per my Doctor, on day two my heart rate dropped down to the low 40's. My wife drove me to the hospital, where they had to take action to bring my heart rate up. One pill... now I take a water pill for blood pressure, I"m 70 yrs. old and blood pressure stays below 130, and no issues with heart rate.
