Harbor freight boxes don’t seem to crack. They are much thinner, then the Plano boxes, but don’t crack. I used the smaller ones, you can get for $5. But I bought the larger plastic ammo can for $12. I can put two 12ah batteries in it. I like that you are using the smaller batteries. I have a few that no longer have working tools. With those lights, you could do;tact the space station.

Neat video and I do appreciate you verbosity explaining it's limitations. If the batteries are run on low charge they will be degraded. You can purchase meters that flip a relay on and off based on the voltage of the battery.

Great build, I have built a battery box with a 12 volt SLA battery. Is there a reason you have to step down the power because it seems even all your switches and accessories you added can go to 24 volts, im I missing something?

With this set up how long do you think I can run a electric fishing reel I thinking of getting 2 batteries with a 48v to 12v step down and wire them bout together for more battery life is that over kill or just wire one and keep a extra battery and change out when needed great stuff bro

when you charger the box.. are you charging as 20v or 12v since you reduced the outage of the batteries

I need a setup to power my 20 volt fan running for a while. Worry about low voltage cut off which i dont have. If you leave alone with the fan running it could ruin the battery. I will put two 4 amp hour batteries together with 8 amp hour rating. Less chance of damage for a longer run. Put a low voltage alarm on it If i cant find a cut off switch.

I like those newer switches. Was considering them for my builds, a little pricey at the moment, and overkill for what I need. Question with the switches connected to the housing, what is that overall length? I mount all my components inside the box, so I am not poking holes in a weather resistant box, just curious as to that length. Great use of those batteries. Cool Vid. Thanks.

Did the battery % indicator work or was it showing 100% all the time with the step down?

That is a Great Set up. I'm curious about the heat in the box with everything turned on, especially the lights, How hot do they get?

It did get a bit warmer, but nothing to be alarmed with. The LED lights have cooling fins on the back that help dissipate that. In future boxes I make, Ill only do 1 LED light.

This is a question spurred by a previous comment and question. Fuse panel. Some have engineered their boxes with a single inline weather sealed fuse. Do you recommend all components be fused individually via block panel or with inline fuses to each. Also is a fuse panel overkill? Just wondering. I am prepping a parts order and my plan schematic will have to be adapted. Good vid. Thanks.

Ive been seeing that as well. In all honesty, its probably overkill how i did it, you could very well get away with just one inline. I like redundancy in my stuff is all 😊

Ive had that one laying around for a few years now. I think I may have gotten it at Fleet Farm? After testing the boxes weaknesses, I would suggest using inline fuses. Its less bulky, and easier to move wires around to fit the 🔋

Can you charge the battery with the SAE port via solar? And how long will a battery run those lights?

I dont think you could with the dewalt (knock off) battery. However, you could if you used a standard 12v battery. I am working on building a few more power boxes with less features than this one. I was able to run these 3, non stop for 5hrs (give or take on how cold it is outside). Shoot me a message on I.G. if you have any other questions, I'll do the best I can to answer them!

I ran the three lights alone for 4-5ish hrs. Honestly dont need all 3 lights, one is plenty. I got 3 full charges on a seperate occasion from one battery. Finally I have charged my Bluetooth speaker for while running my ice portable for 3hrs or so. I really wasnt keeping time on that one.

@@SpicedUpOutdoors you can use blue painters tape to sharpie on and cut thru the tape on the lines. Cleaner and easier to see.

Meanwhile, since I'm also active in running Traxxas RC cars as well and building Scale model crawlers, I found that my hand held body reamer I bought at harbor freight worked perfect too because it can be more precise needing less sealants later to seal it off.
