Great work! I tried these atom paints myself and even though I find them very good for an acrylic paint, it is not gonna replace my lacquers. But if someone really wants to stick with odorless paints, there are really no better alternatives…

Looks fantastic Jamie, great work as usual. The chipping of the red stripe makes it & you've judged that perfectly not overdoing it.

Well done, I really like your weathering style, those chips look good. Like you I'm a lacquer user. I appreciate you showing these paints off. I convinced my buddy who's afraid of lacquer to pick some Atom paints up. He's using them on his current build and is enjoying them so far.

Another great video, Jamie! I'm a bit of a paint junkie and will definitely have to try out these new paints. Like you I'm a dyed-in-the-wool lacquer paint user, with MRP being my favorite. I'm always looking for a good acrylic paint that behaves like lacquer but does not give off the horrid odor. Even though I use a respirator and have ventilation, the model will out-gas after painting until the paint is fully cured, which means I have to leave the workshop, especially in Winter months. This is why I plan my major painting in the evening, so I can call it a night afterwards and let the paint cure overnight.

Hello Jamie, Clearly the Atom line is an improvement over the old acrylic Ammo paints but can you tell us what's the right paint/thinner ratio? What is the correct tehnique? What air pressure is correct? As I can see from this 1080p video the demarcation lines are not as "tight" as you say and clearly not as tight if you have used the Tamiya acrylics/ Mr. Hobby Aqueos( where we all know that a 70/30 ratio of thinner/paint and max. 1bar pressure will give us a good effect). Can you tell us why? Can you tell us more about the Atom RLM 02/66/65/76/70? RLM02 it should be a greenish grey. Atom's RLM02 is green. RLM66 it should be a dark blue black- Atom's RLM66 is kinda neutral grey Atom's RLM65 and 76 are practically the same . RLM70 is should be a very dark green black. Atom's RLM70 is green. Please read "RLMxx it should be" as by general acceptance. thank you

Hi mate I didn't measure the paint ratio but to be honest there are many variables such as airbrush, air pressure, humidity/temperature so I never tell people what to use. What I do is put some thinner in the airbrush cup, put some paint in probably close to 50/50 then adjust as required until it works for me. As for the tightness of the spray pattern. I wasn't aiming for the tightest pattern I could get on the MiG as I was modelling a specific aeroplane with a specific camouflage. I've just sprayed a test on some plastic card, Atom vs MRP, and they are very close if not the same. I'll post the pictures on my Facebook page (Scale Modelling Cafe with Jamie Haggo) and I'll mention this in my weekly update this week. As for the RLM colours I don't have them so can't comment, other than RLM 66 which I used for the test mentioned above. To my eye it's greyer than MRPs and lacks the green and some of the blue. I agree it's close to Neutral Grey, also Dark Sea Grey to my eye. Hope that helps.

Wooooohooooo....only 19 minutes late! Result! ✊🏻👍🏻😉😆😂 Smashing working Squire! Here's a question for you, which is the best way to make acrylic orange, red, white and yellow to cover properly, as they most of the time can be a right pain in the....exhaust in that department as they say. When I worked for SAAB (Lansen, Draken, Viggen and Gripen fame) I painted these colors a fair bit, and they always made me lose my marbles near enough.... Now I'm sitting on a few 1/48 Skyraiders which demands these colors and I'm sweating already! 😅😉😆😂

I didn't mate as I had their own brand thinners. I always recommend to use own brand.

Great result Jamie. I saw your other video where you mentioned how the acrylics felt cool to the touch after their initial drying period. This was my experience with Vallejo acrylics as well. I was also concerned at the time about the way the paint looked after initial drying, sort of a house paint latex look to it (although finer). But once it cured overnight, it took on a nicer sheen like I would expect, so I suspect that there is some additional shrinkage going on during that extended cure time. Anyway, I have a question about the term "complementary color". I've heard this over and over here and elsewhere, but I am unsure how to determine what a complimentary color is for a given base color. How do you make that determination? Thanks.
@thescalemodellingcafe
@thescalemodellingcafe 3 ай бұрын
Complimentary colour means that the wash "works" with the underlying tone, so the contrast is not too high and the colours work together. For example, I'd never use a light grey tone on a dark brown camouflage.

Thank you fot these 2 videos. Do you know if those paints are available individually yet? Last i checked they weren't. I'd like to try ICM's acrylics too, but similarly really just available in sets. Cheers.

Hi Jamie, great job. Am I right in thinking that Ammo's One Shot primer is Stynylrez? Looking forward to an RAF ATOM set being released. I've used some of their basic colours and metallics for detail brush painting and they've been great. I've gone 100% acrylic so using AK 3rd gen in the meantime.
@CFster
@CFster 3 ай бұрын
I’ll chime in if I may. I believe the older yellow cap One Shot bottles were Stynylrez, but they went to their own formula for the newer black versions. If you’re in the UK then Stynylrez can be found under the UMP label as Ultimate Primer.
