VERY WELL DONE! The light dusting instead of heavy dirt, oil and weathering , EXCELLENT! There wasn't the usual heavy panel lines accentuated with some kind of grime paint, no overly chipped paint on props or oil stains on the underneath. Looking foward to your videos 5 stars

Interesting that you scribe around the switchboxes on the cockpit sidewalls to give them more separation from the panels Jamie. I guess they really pop after a wash. Good tip. 👍🏻

I was minding my own business last Saturday and happened upon your laminar flow 1/48 Spitfire XIV post on facebook, as a result I have a set on the way and a Mk VIII Spitfire to butcher. The perils of social media ! It’s my first foray into a conversion and if all goes well I may go for the low back XIV set to convert my 1/32 Tamiya XVI that’s in the stash that I have zero enthusiasm for in its present form . Thanks Jamie………I think 😂

I'm sure you must have been through this in one of your vids Jamie, but what made you decide to mask and paint some of the markings before applying the camouflage coat?
@thescalemodellingcafe
@thescalemodellingcafe 4 күн бұрын
Just minimising risk of fine lines on the joins the masks, and it minimises the risk of the contrast of the camouflage coming through.

@@thescalemodellingcafe Thanks. I've got a few sets of masks that I bought to try out the technique - I'll give your reverse method a go. When you produce your own roundel masks do you ever cut a second set with very slightly different dimensions to minimise the risk of join lines?

I emailed Richard Alexander to ask him why there was no detail on the tailplanes of the Kotare Spitfires when they did have screw fasteners and he said that they hadn't recreated them because at scale they would not be visible, so guess that goes for any other detail that we may think is missing? I do agree with him though about the wing leading edges, the rivets were puttied and sanded at the factory and I can't say I've ever seen a photo where they are visible - but if course there'll be some somewhere!

Looking forward to watching the Kotare build for what I know you can achieve with it , Jamie. The Kotare kits are outstanding and would have built them myself but desired the larger scale of the Airfix, 1/24 Mk.IX. There was far more corrections and modifications to perform than expected, taking the majority of build time to complete. It was mostly enjoyable and rewarding as part of the hobby but for modellers not wishing to deal with accuracy issues the Kotare models are superior. I may have mention this before to you, Jamie. I have a official RAF training film on the practices of preparing and painting of wartime aircraft with a focus on 'High Speed' aircraft posted on my channel featuring early Spitfires that I think you would find of interest and helpful for your build.
