Even though I don't have goldfish, this is super helpful if I want to get another axolotl! May I suggest the name Tamago for the chubby-chinned goldfish? It means egg in Japanese.

I vote for Tamago too, it's perfect for the round eggy girl. Just FYI, if you do get an axolotl, as amphibians their needs are very different to fish. Although I've used salt baths (under the direction of our exotics vet), they're done at specific dilutions and for less time. Same with methylene blue. Axies tend to be a lot more sensitive to things :) I hope you're able to own axolotls again in the future, they're such cool pets!

When I had to move my goldfish out of my outdoor pond to do some work, I had a beneficial bacteria die-off. I didn't put the filter in with my holding tank (stupid). When I noticed there was something wrong with the fish the next day, I did a full water test. 8ppm of ammonia! Actually, it couldn't have been darker green at the bottom of that scale. I turned over the water 2 -3 times with water changes, and it was still registering, so I added some ammo lock. This methylene blue salt bath would have been a great method for the fish really acting stressed. I have no idea how I didn't lose any fish! 5 giant fantails, 3 - 8" goldfish, 100 swordtails, 50 platies, and about 10 mollies. 0 deaths! My god, man, how!? I saved/created the new cycle by adding a giant bag of bio rings that had been sitting in the waterfall overflow and adding API quick start. I also added media and mulm from my indoor tanks.

I only have to get some valves for my sponge filters, then I have everything. My 10 gallon is going to sit in the sun next week to sterilize more, then I'm going to set it up and hope it works. Going to order some shrimp for my 5 gallon, and work on customization. I hope all of the fish stay healthy during the shipping from Chicago!
