That was the first american printing of Man who sold the World. Different cover because apparently american record labels in 1970 would not have a man in a dress on the cover. They must have changed their tune shortly thereafter

1:42 That "animated " cover of Bowie's The Man Who Sold The World" album was the original US version of the cover b/c the "original" European version with Bowie wearing a "dress" on the cover was TOO MUCH for the homophobic snowflakes in ameriKKKa. So it's the same LP just different cover.

He says that Bowie is one of his favourites of all time and yet he displays a distinct lack of knowledge on the subject. He says he's never heard 'David Live' - well, if you're a Bowie fan you would have heard it years ago. The original U.S. cover of 'The Man Who Sold The World' album was different to the U.K. version. The original U.K. cover was deemed too controversial for narrow minded American sentimentalities (Bowie wearing his 'man's dress') and so Mercury changed the cover to what you see here. In 1972 when RCA bought Bowie's back catalogue from Mercury 'The Man Who Sold The World' was re-released in yet another cover. This time featuring a Ziggy era black-n-white shot of Bowie performing a high kick and on a plain black background. Not until the 1990 CD version (with bonus tracks) would we see the original 'Man's Dress' cover re-emerge complete with 'High Kick' cover on the back. Shooter also refers to Bowie's 1969 album 'David Bowie' (sub-titled 'Man of Words - Man of Music' to simplify things for the American market) as 'Space Oddity'. This album wouldn't be re-named 'Space Oddity' (with a new cover) until 1972 when re-released by RCA. The original cover would return in the 2-disc re-release on CD in 2009. Hope that clears things up.
