Located along the coast of Kailua-Kona on the Island of Hawaii, this house was designed for a family with intercultural Indian roots. Influenced by the principles of Vastu Shastra, a traditional Hindu architectural system that integrates geometry and spatial arrangements with the energies and elements of nature, the residence reflects an authentic and understated spirituality. The house is enveloped by sliding doors that disappear into the walls, connecting the minimalist and elegant interiors with the external landscape. Deep overhangs were incorporated into the design to provide sun protection and minimize heat gain, while the use of local materials and furniture from Bali, Mexico, and India, along with Indian fabrics in earthy tones, enriches the environment with a cultural touch. The kiawe trees, some thousands of years old, were preserved and incorporated into the project, echoing the historical and natural connection of the site.
