Thanks for including the sounds of the sea. It made it seem a bit more like really being there.

@@Expedition_Tranquilo I've been enjoying your entire series, in particular about Montenegro and Albania. Few have been there and done such a good job with the videos. And Mt Etna too. All of your videos have been very informative. Cheers,

Fantastic episode guys. Spectacle scenery. Place looked like a James Bond movie waiting to happen! Ha! I must however say, the highlight of this video. Was most definitely that gnarly wave Aiden caught!...9:01... well done mate!!

Yeah, amazing that Bond's never been there (but then he's never been to Australia so they producers don't always get it right). And agree about the highlight!

Good to know that even experienced sailers get a bit twitchy having to tie off in a marina. It stresses me as well and like Elle, I prefer to moor or anchor anyway.

When med mooring, did you guys have to drop the anchor or are there mooring balls by the docks?
@Expedition_Tranquilo2 жыл бұрын
We only had to drop the anchor in Ionaian Greece. The rest of the Med the dock helpers passed you a line (which was tethered to a block around 25m off the dock underwater) which you picked up by boat hook and then took to the bow and secured. One of our Croatia videos shows it step by step, Nature's Wonderland II?

What a coincidence. Me and some friends arr planning a charter there in Sept 2019. Do you think there's enough protected anchorages in that area or will we get gouged by the Marinas? Thanks for sharing your experience there. :)
@Expedition_Tranquilo6 жыл бұрын
Unless the winds are from the northern quarter - which they typically are - these anchorages would be quite exposed. Unfortunately the marinas are all small and busy so not easy to find a spot - not to mention how expensive they are. Capri was Euro 200! The anchorage on the southern coast of Capri is beautiful, however it's not possible to come in on the tender to shore, as friends of ours found out. Sadly as beautiful as this area is, it's not easy to cruise around. The Aeoli Islands or northern Sardinia and Corsica are definitely easier cruising grounds...
@Jolie_sailor6 жыл бұрын
@@Expedition_Tranquilo thank you for the info. Its too bad bacause the place looks magical. We may have to reconsider as I'll be the only experienced sailor and looks to me that finding a overnight spot will be stressful. Fair winds.

You sail into the "very heart of the rich and famous - in Italy", on a half-million dollar yacht, and don't think you are a member?
@Expedition_Tranquilo6 жыл бұрын
There's some truth to that, however to be a member of the rich and famous that haunt this region, half-million dollars wouldn't get you invited to the local barbecue... and we sold our house to buy Tranquilo, while for most of the 'rich' in Amalfi and Positano, the mansions that dot the cliffs are more like their weekend homes. And another perspective on being 'rich'. We forewent a lot of luxuries to save up for Tranquilo, such as not buying anything - not new, nor second hand, no new clothes, no new shoes, nothing - for a whole year, and not much in following years. We certainly don't feel rich, and that's the beauty of cruising around the world; for all the yachts that are doing the same, we never talk about what we do, how well off we are. From those who own a 30-year old blue water yacht, to those who have a brand spanking new Gunboat 65, we never care about the money aspect, we are all just in it for the adventure, the challenge, and we are more likely to be talking about what our upcoming passage plans are, what to see, what the weather forecast looks like, what problems we've had, and more importantly, when's the next catch up for a beach bonfire, or whose boat will be hosting sundowners. It doesn't take much to do that!
@ricgaston65036 жыл бұрын
Thank you for that well thought and understanding response, but I think you missed the tone of my comment. Don't get me wrong, I think what you are doing is fabulous, and you likely deserve everything, and should continue doing what you are doing as long as you can. I don't set myself up to be anything special but If I sold my house (I have never owned a house), quit buying shoes, and continue to wear the clothes I have been wearing for the last 10 years, I couldn't buy a Hobie Cat. I understand you don't "feel" rich, but in comparison to many people, and maybe many people who follow you, you are. I'm sure most of the "cruising people" don't feel rich either, and that is just fine. You all should not forget that there are many who can view these videos who will never be able to make it as far as you are right now, and have a bit of compassion for those who dream.
