Realistically it is going to take until summer 2027 to get rid of all the deadwood because of contracts and FFP. We have to be patient and not try to do things too quickly, otherwise we're just repeating the same mistakes and it will take even longer to fix. If we want to sell to buy, we maybe need to be creative in terms of contracts, etc. If we stick with Amorim and his system, it is going to take a long time to get all the players we need to suit it. I hope we don't go through all this, get the players he needs, and then get rid of him. We'll then be stuck with lots of players that don't suit most coaches systems!

Maybe if mctominay wasn’t pushed so hard to be sold we could’ve kept him and sold the bigger earners ie Eriksen and Casemiro. If nobody wanted them in the summer why would anyone want them now? It’s their wages. I get he wasn’t a cdm, but he could at least tackle and put a shift in, neither Eriksen or Casemiro can do that anymore. We just need bodies at this point in January, but not aging bodies.

Amorim made a fatal mistake coming in and jettisoning all the existing coaches, including Ruud van Nistelroy, and parachuting in a whole lot of strangers. Madness to try to introduce a new playing system in the middle of a busy season with next to no time for coaching the players. No wonder the players are anxious and confused . . .

Can’t change our mind now, we know it’s the players. Full tilt, the manager beat the best manager in the Prem, twice. Something to keep in mind, did the research before he came, he had at least 5 to six departures in his first summer, 5-6 signings, and 4-5 players promoted to the first team. He literally rejuvenated the side with signings and promotion at Sporting. They didn’t win every season, and they had bad spells and seasons in the league and Europe. It takes time to become good, what we saw with his Sporting side this season was the result of almost 4 entire seasons.
