Lyrics: The Bee
[Verse 1]
A fire in the sky
Ablaze the spark beyond the stars
Its gleaming wings will cut their way
Through the silent paths of space
Planets whirl, suns are lit
Mountains fly, stars are dimmed
Its golden sabres tear through time
[Bridge 1]
In the night of the river of death
Fly the silent prince electors
[Verse 2]
On the banks of Tuonela
Bleach the skeletons of kings
Their skulls of sugar sickly sweet
Their bones piled up on the shore
On bed of mottled rocks
Amid flowers cold as ice
Pray the weak, the old, the poor
[Chorus 1]
And when the tiny one from heaven comes
Crawls inside the chosen skull
And when the tiny one it summons the others
To crawl inside the chosen skull
[Verse 3]
They build their castles in the heads of kings
Bring life to the empty halls
They build their castles in the heads of kings
And honey will flow once more, once more
[Bridge 2]
In the night of the river of death
Fly the silent prince electors
[Chorus 2]
And when the tiny one from heaven comes
Crawls inside the chosen skull
And when the tiny one it summons the others
To crawl inside the chosen skull
[Verse 4]
They build their castles in the heads of kings
Bring life to the empty halls
They build their castles in the heads of kings
And honey will flow once more, once more

Matti Kautto wrote on other page where the lyrics of this particular song is based: "Amorphis has a lot of songs that are referring to the old stories from the Finnish national epic "Kalevala". This song is about the hero Lemminkäinen dying and being sent to the river Tuonela (the underworld) and his mother going to fetch him back. His mother sews his body back in one piece and the sky god Ukko sends a bee from the heavens to blow life back into him. There is a very famous painting of this called Lemminkäinen's mother by Akseli Gallen-Kallela. Also, their song Silent Waters is about the same thing, but mainly from the mother's point of view (as far as I understood it)."

Amorphis has many songs based from Kalevala which is the Finnish folklore and mythology. In this song they mention Tuonela which is the realm of the dead in Kalevala. Tuoni and Tuonetar are the rulers of Tuonela. Amorphis was probably the first Finnish death metal band to get popular abroad. I remember being so hyped when MTV Headbangers Ball played Finnish music video Amorphis - My Kantele at late 90's.

Actually I kinda disagree. Tons of good stuff from Finland but I don't see them being the master of any genre, maybe on the Folk Scene? Nah Ukrainian are so good in this realm.. Black, Nah Norway, France and East must be the best scenes for this.. Let's say they just have greats bands and this "finnish style" you can immediatly recognize, cold melodies, something almost reassuring , really "Christmas stuff" with all the keyboards, stereotyped, but honnestly I god damn love it !

You know, I've already listened to this song like 50 times and the good thing is, that even after all those repetitions, I was still as exited about seeing you do this reaction video than if I was when I got the info that the video was out. By the way I did exactly what Antonio said he wanted to do and immediately went back to their older albums. Amorphis have such an insane backlog of awesome songs ranging from death metal to more folkier, progressive stuff, but I still feel that with every new album they get better and better. There, I said it. I would have never expected that Amorphis could do even better than they did with Under the Red Cloud, but from this song alone, I'm kinda convinced that I was totally wrong. Most certainly my album of the Year in 2018

I just wanna let you know that they've released an new music video (or more like studio playthrough) a couple of days ago to their song From the Ligthhouse. To the moon is my favorite of them, but in case you prefer seeing the Band perform or see their latest stuff I can highly request the song aswell! It's a little "quieter" and more slow but also a very beautiful melody in it.

All those proud kings who once had their reign had to meet their end. Now their skulls and bones are resting at the shore of the River of Tuonela. And now the tiny bees are finding a place to build their nests in their empty skulls. The real story behind this song stems from Kalevala and the brash warrior called Lemminkäinen. He was killed and brought to the River of Tuonela. But the love of her mother brought her mother to the River of Tuonela where she put back her son together but couldn't bring him back to life. Then, a small bee flying by agreed to give her a drop of honey for her son when she begged for it. And so her beloved son came back to life again.

After Wintersunday you should do Amorphisunday. :D I mean this Band is doing good music since the early 90s, so there is alot you could react to. Please do Black Winter Day by Amorphis, it's a song from their 1994 album "Tales from the Thousand Lakes". kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKmqZqOgfp2qgs0 The vocalist back then was Tomi Koivusaari who is still playing the rythm guitar. Late 90s and early 2000s they had Pasi Koskinen as singer and since 2005 Tomi Joutsen. If you would react to their older songs this is something you should know about them. :D

"The keyboard melody when the clean vocals kick in" is done on the guitar. Yeah. I was surprised too.

Album of the year coming, lemme tell ya xD I love the riffs and that slight prog psychedelia drawing from the late 90s/early 00s Amorphis albums, and Joutsen still growls like a monster. Funny detail, that melody isnt from keyboard but a guitar riff put through a delay effect. One of the trademarks of the lead guitarist Esa Holopainen.

Really???? I honestly thought it was from the keyboard. WOW, that is even more impressive.

A&P-REACTS Indeed xD other notable amorphis songs that utilize that effect are "Alone" and "Towards and Against"

To me it sounds like it indeed is originally a tape-delayed guitar riff, but played through a synthesizer of some sort. It's not exactly the traditional way they've done it in the past.

That's a good point. Perhaps it's one of the ideas Bogren came up with during the production?

Amorphis never disappoints. From Karelian Isthmus (even though it was not the same singer and not the same vibe at all) trough today, it's always amazing to hear them.

One suggestion. Maybe you could start doing some reaction to metal ballads songs. There are so many great, amazing songs from so many metal bands out there. Maybe one day in a week? :D Songs like Manowar - Heart Of Steel, Iced Earth - Melancholy, Nightwish - Kiss While Your Lips Are Still Red, Tarot - Tides, Aldaria - Trail Of Tears, Orden Organ - Too Soon, Mad Architect - Floating ... etc etc we can go on and on... I think that would be great :D

Pre-Note to viewers: Please thumbs up *Elegy* fans. You guys should react to some songs from their *Elegy* album if you didn't listen to that yet. It's one of their older albums and it's their best one for many, at least one their best surely. Also it's arguably the first album they kinda established their today's sound, although they later diverted to a softer prog-metal/prog-rock for a few albums but they came back to Elegy-ish style after a while. Of course their pre-Elegy albums (also respectfully beloved by many fans) had similar elements but had more of a doom metal atmosphere. Elegy is when they distanced their style from doom and created their folk-prog-melodeath sound which they base their recent music on with surely some updates. All of the songs in that album have a solid fanbase but *On Rich And Poor* is probably one of the most popular ones which would be a good choice to react. I could also personally recommend songs called *Song Of The Troubled One, Better Unborn, Elegy* or *My Kantele* (last two are slower ones). However, any song would do because for me it's the only album in metal history (including every legendary band or album) that I really really like all the songs without any exceptions at all. It's really that good imo.
