Most people can see a morally colorful world and try to fit everything in either black or white. Amos is basically colorblind but still tries to understand color.
@jacksonblack94083 жыл бұрын
I love that analogy. In the book, Naomi says that Amos uses first her, and then Holden, as a "after market conscience" Basically a seeing eyedog for the psychopath (and dogs are thought to be colorblind so it's even funnier hahaha)

Trust me it gets better. The last expanse book expands on him massively..if you don't want to be spoilered** under no circumstances read further** but In the last released book he is smuggled into Laconia which had taken over the 10.000 worlds with a nuke to take the head of the snake but then refuses to detonate it because he befriends himself with s local child while observing the best place to blow the whole place up so he can't do it anymore.

@@ddmrv75 I'm loving season 5. Much better then I thought it would be and the adaptation of the free navy is just perfect. Marco's speech is one of the best I've ever heard in TV. My only complaint is how much they changed Avasarala. In the book she immediately assumes control after the SGs death.

At first I thought Amos was just a sociopath you are glad is on your side. The truth is he feels, but because of his experiences knows the harshness of life… and has decided to meet it with equal force. He’s almost non-aggressive, but knows the way to stop a bully is to stand up to them.

Amos is definitely noble and is also invested in justice. I remember once I heard that it can be difficult yo define justice, as it can be difficult to define light, yet, just like light, everybody knows when it is absent. I see the Amos caharacter having difficulty understanding the intricacies of justice, yet he knows when something is fair, just, and the right thing to do, and tries to follow that path, others wouldnt even consider it, like the asshat on Ilo. Amos would be willing to give his life for a kid in danger if necessary, while monsters like Marco are willing to sacrifice millions for power.

I always loved this section of the 3rd book. Bull: "These people need reassurance that they'll be protected long enough to finish their broadcast." Holden blinked twice, once at Bull, once at the three women sitting cross-legged on the floor(Monica, Anna, and Tilly). Anna had to suppress a giggle. Holden was so comically earnest she just had to give him a hug and pat him on the head. "Amos will make sure you're not interrupted." He finally said. "Right" Bull said. "Tell them why that's reassuring." "Oh, well when Amos is angry he's the meanest scariest person I've ever met and he'd walk across a sea of corpses he personally created to help a friend. And one of his good friends just got murdered by the people who are going to take this office. And the last people I'd want to be are the ones who are going to try to break in to stop you. Amos doesn't process grief well, it usually turns into anger or violence for him. I have a feeling he's going to process the shit out of it on some Ashford loyalists." "Killing people won't make him feel better"(Anna) "Actually" Holden said with a half smile. "I think it might for him, but Amos is a special case. You'd be right about most anyone else."

I don't know if anybody realizes it but Amos is probably the most positive portrayal of sociopaths I've ever seen on screen. I've had several friends who were diagnosed sociopaths and they're all like him in their own ways. Its not that they don't care about other people, there's just a wire missing and they have to rationalize all forms of empathy rather than feel them organically and its truly tragic because they all are like him and know and see how different they are from others.
@knackeredrovers10 ай бұрын
I don’t think he’s a sociopath. A sociopath would not have the layers of empathy he clearly displays, or the loyalty to those fortunate enough to become his friends. I think he’s autistic, with CPTSD.

what a random find on your vid. love this, love you for making it! Never to discount what Cranson did with Breaking Bad where he went from wholesome to hated - Amos had a path of healing that taught him how to love. Yeah, there's still violence but it's like his protection over himself, that we know he had to learn (sadly, fuck..) at a young age, was a shell that just kept growing until protection was all he knew. But what an arc. Great vid, sharing!!

This comment reminded me of a juxtaposition I hadn't previously put together, when Clarissa says to Amos, "I have killed, but I am not a killer, because killers are monsters, and monsters aren't afraid." She means it to be endearing and poetic, but she wasn't around to hear that Amos hasn't felt fear since he was five years old. So in that moment, she's labeling him a monster. And he just accepts it and shrugs it off.
